With the crushing weight of actually living up to the hype, you would hope that Auston Matthews' illness is something serious like malaria because man he's been questioned to be soft and sitting out an elimination game in hockey is a cardinal sin. Guys have gutted it out with separated shoulders, torn ligaments, broken ribs, broken hands, Chara had that broken jaw. And then they go out and win. Phew, that's a tough look. Good for Tavares though. He really pushed the defense and made something happen. Knies in the right place at the right time. As a Bruins fan, I feel like I'm already starting to get that same, awful pit in my stomach that comes with remembering last year's Florida series. Last year, the Bruins held a 3 games to 1 lead over Florida, coming home with a chance to close out the Panthers. The Panthers won an overtime game in Boston to send the series back to Florida after switching goalies mid-series, then won a close Game 6, then beat the Bruins in Boston in Game 7. It's hard not to feel like this could be history repeating itself, so Boston better close it out on Thursday night or there will be 17,000-plus antsy Bruins fans filing into the Garden on Saturday for a deciding seventh game.

I think Boston's goaltending advantage will definitely give them one of the next 2 games, if not ending it next game. Woll played great last night, but how long can he play over his head?

Unless you can’t physically stand, you haul your ass out there. Gutless team with gutless leaders.

Yeah, it's different than football where guys are too macho and think they're athletic god incapable of being stopped. NHL players know they're just dudes, but they can't look around the room and quit. They could have a leg falling off and still say they're good to go. Worse case scenario they try to gut it out and get told by the team they can't go. Auston being out so far in advance tells me he didn't try too much to get out there, if at all.

Otter said “no overtime tonight!”
This series is way too intense. One more win.

Vegas better at least force a game 7. I do not want to see the cup defense end round 1 with a loss at the fortress

Matthews out tonight as well I really don't understand it at this point. He was shown skating, he's again listed as out well in advance. Is it a concussion issue that they're intentionally mislabeling as an illness?

Is it a concussion issue that they're intentionally mislabeling as an illness? This about sums it up really. Saying “something happened” which is just as well as saying nothing at all. The Leafs are the only ones who really know what’s going on and I reckon they’re not saying anything until after the season is over. Makes the series more interesting than it would have been before, at the very least.

And we’re getting a game 7 in Boston Marchand and Pasta just rolling over I take it? Pretty much, a literal last second 0.1 goal by Geekie to prevent the shutout is about the only thing for Boston to celebrate tonight. Bummer for Woll but I’m sure he’ll take the victory.

And we’re getting a game 7 in Boston There is something absolutely ingrained in the Bruins' DNA that they need to make things as difficult as possible for themselves in the playoffs. This is the SIXTH TIME since 2004 that the Bruins have held a 3-1 series lead, yet have been forced to play a seventh game. (Montreal 2004, Philadelphia 2010, Toronto 2013, Toronto 2018, Florida 2023, Toronto 2024). The Bruins also haven't won a Game 7 since 2019, haven't won an overtime playoff game since 2021 (they're 8-14 in playoff OT games since the 2013 Stanley Cup Final), and haven't recorded a playoff sweep since 2019. They're the most un-clutch team in hockey and I am not at all confident about their chances heading into Saturday night. Forget about recent history, this just looks like a team that is playing with no life over the past two games. In games 5 and 6 against Toronto, they played both first periods looking like they'd just woken up from a wicked hangover. If they show up Saturday with that effort, they'll be making tee times by the first intermission.

Adin Hill is the only reason thia game isn't 4-0 Stars right now. This game reminds me of the game 3 OT loss. Doesn't matter how good the goalie is doing if you keep giving the other guys shots eventually one will get through

God nothing as nerve wracking as a 1 goal lead with a few mins left in a do or die game

The Captain with an empty netter to seal the W and force a game 7! That's how you defend home ice! Now use that momentum and go win game 7

Matthews in tonight, so all the “Toronto wins game 5&6 without Matthews and loses 7 with him” memes just might come true. Joseph Woll, however, is out. Samsonov is in the goal tonight.
