I’ve been following this storyline from afar and it’s making me want to get back into watching AEW weekly again. Tonight’s movement just seems like more great storytelling.

I can't believe I'm witnessing a wholesome show closing promo featuring FTR and MJF

Those last few minutes of Collision gave me Uncut Gems levels of anxiety, I am too invested in this shit.

This is one of those times where they kinda gained more by losing, in a way.
Would I have been happy to see them win the tag titles? Yeah, sure, but it also seemed less likely because AEW does not casually change their tag titles around in the same way WWE, NJPW, and some other companies are more comfortable doing. (Yes, there are the Gunn Club, but they are a longterm team and not just a walking angle, and even Kenny and Hangman put in the work for months.)

Them going this all in with MJF being a face is honestly really welcomed Even if he turns eventually stretch this shit out, this is at its peak right now. I really hope this team goes like 6 months and ends with Cole turning on Max and then taking the belt

Its honestly the kind of storyline AEW needs. AEW got too safe with its booking these last couple of years. AEW is doing very well of course and it wont go anywhere but I feel like there is a reason their tv numbers didnt grow but Impact and all of WWE did.

Been super critical of TK’s booking in general recently but this is a home run. To NOT do the turn here was a risk that definitely paid off. There’s plenty of juice still in this story, glad he thinks so too.

Last night was great. But if I'm nitpicking I'd have held off on the hug. When MJF threw the belt down behind Coles back, I'd have had him then roll out ring and leave upset. Then start building to title match at All In. Then do the hug after MJF wins in front of 85k people to a monster pop

feel like I invoke PWG a lot but it's a very PWG feeling tag team and the inevitable break up is going to be great, I dunno, it at least feels sort of Reseda-y at least a bit, as in I could imagine KO in MJF's role if this was PWG. Its great anyway. Love them. A pair of total dipshits.

True but last night was sort of the first 'i'm not going to attack, I genuinely like you hug'. All the other hugs could have been played as staged Genuinely wonder what happens next though. MJF has promised a title match. Does that happen next, and then they quickly turn MJF around to face Punk one week later to unify the belts? That would all be very rushed/frantic

They lost the title match but cemented their friendship. The hug got a bigger pop than the title win would've gotten, I love that they are not going the obvious route. And also that fan reaction may have caused them to pivot.
This storyline is the best thing they've done in ages.
Tequila and pizza has gotta be the most heartburn-inducing combination of food and drink ever tho lol

Going with MJF losing, introducing the idea that maybe opening himself up to friendship has weakened him, then playing up that Cole was fully aware of what Max might do in response and invited it, having Max throw the belt down, going seemingly full friendship on the hug for the first time...all very good choices.
The easy choice would've been Cole taking the pin and Max getting pissed, a still easy but slightly better one would've been Max losing and then immediately driving Cole away, but by doing neither you've now introduced a lot more dynamics that can bring this to whatever the conclusion's going to be.
I maintain that you still can get to a point where they split up without doing it in a lazy or most obvious way, and do it in a way that keeps the door open that they could eventually overcome whatever does drive them apart, but they know they've got something here and know they need to draw it out. So many people saying they couldn't stop watching last night because they were waiting for what their full reaction to losing would be...got a feeling that'll bear out in the ratings, and the promotion's fully aware of the momentum this is generating.

Agreed. They have potential here to have them forever tied together one way or another (as long as both in AEW). Kinda like Steen/Generico. I can see future scenarios where MJF is uber heel but he still likes and has his friendship with babyface Cole. Or vice versa. They can fall out and reunite however many times you want etc.

If the plan is still MJF/Cole at All In (is that even the plan?) they could make it a triple threat, which would change the dynamic and allow the third person to take the pin. Maybe Punk?
I don't mind the eventual turn happening but I'm glad they're seemingly letting us enjoy the team for a while longer.

I'm actually starting to think Cole is gonna be the one to turn. He's using Max's friendship to throw him off his game and win the title. But I could be wrong.

AEW is doing very well of course and it wont go anywhere but I feel like there is a reason their tv numbers didnt grow but Impact and all of WWE did. That was very noticeable the moment Mox beat Danielson at Grandslam last year back when Danielson still had momentum pre BCC, if they are pivoting with the Cole/MJF story is because they want to secure WBD bag and thats fine.
