I'm so happy that they hugged it out and how MJF reacted to his loss, he was so broken up about it and thought he'd ruined their friendship & was tossing up whether or not to attack Cole because of it. Cole even expecting MJF to attack him and accepting his seeming fate was a nice touch.

This whole night established that: - MJF deeply cares about this friendship. - Cole knows MJF's history and isn't dumb. He knows this could end at any moment. - They're not in this for titles. They're legit friends in good times and in bad times.

The loss gutted me but absolutely forgiven for the follow-through.
- MJF looking and sounded genuinely devastated he lost (I think he’s gonna kill it In Hollywood one day) - Cole reminding him HE’S THE CHAMP (sorry phil) - mjf looking to betray him and Cole ACCEPTING it - The hug - the absolute TENSION until the show went off the air and they had to do very little, just relied on the SAME OLD wrestling tropes and both characters’ reputation. - they’re still together.
Gah. Just brilliant stuff.

Which is SO in line for MJFs character and not doing it felt like it was a heavy weight off his shoulders. I feel the end certified a new Max and I hope it’s not ruined.

There’s an interesting contrast moment going on with CM Punk going around being entitled and saying he’s the real world champion versus this new, slightly kinder MJF that we’re seeing.

I'm still expecting the turn but this was absolutely perfectly done.
It's hard to see how Max sacrificing himself is anything other than a face move, so obviously they're genuine friends, Max has discovered true love and friendship, is a changed man and definitely nobody will betray anybody and they'll be friends forever.

I was sweating bullets until the Lucasfilm logo showed. I was convinced they were gonna do an NXT-like turn just as the show faded to black. I've never been so relieved to see The Empire Strikes Back starting.

From the show thread:
How I just described that ending to my sister: "So MJF and Adam Cole lost the match and Max was really upset and blaming himself. Adam kept telling him it was OK and handed him the World Title. Max got up and looked like he was gonna hit Adam. Adam stood there with arms out going "do what you have to do!" and they were both crying. Then Max threw the belt to the side and they walked towards each other and I was expecting them to just start throwing punches, but then they hugged! But then they dragged it out and Ian Riccaboni was talking and I thought for sure something was going to happen, but then Star Wars came on and they were still friends!"

Cole, having similar history being a dickhead heel in wrestling, turning his back on MJF and saying "Do what you gotta do" and that being the impetus for MJF to actually not betray him was really clever and interesting, there's so much mileage they can get out of this.

Aww. I hope they're commiserating their loss together right now with some good food, good drink, and a friendly game of Fight Forever.

Them going this all in with MJF being a face is honestly really welcomed Even if he turns eventually stretch this shit out, this is at its peak right now.
