Video game openings that take too long.

Skyrim. I swear that wagon ride takes longer each time I play through it. Fallout 4 takes an age too.

Every Yakuza game starts off suuuper slow. It's the main reason I can't get into them.

Jacob is awful. Completely redundant gameplay-wise with my favorite character class (Vanguard) and if he's Shepard's ME2 romantic interest, he cheats on her between ME2 and ME3. I think he's the only romantic interest that cheats on Shepard between games.

The king of this has to be Dragon Quest VII. Due to the opening plot being that there is no World map and no monsters and a long explanation/tutorial of why, it can be a few hours before your *first* battle. The remake trimmed this a bit, but it's still a slog.

MGSIV was so long, that after finally getting to play the game, I get yet another lengthy cutscene, so I just turned the game off and never touched it again.

Seriously, Sun turned me off the franchise as a whole.

Like, it's still a well designed game, but all that's hidden behind so much boring exposition that it ruins the experience. Who does modern day Pokémon think it is? Golden Sun?

Really even RDR1 takes a good while before it really hits its stride. The opening missions aren't as drawn out and boring as 2's but they do still start the game off pretty slowly. GTA4 does the same thing.

I'll give GTAV credit for bucking the trend. You're involved in a massive gunfight followed by a car chase within five minutes, and within another five you're into the game proper.

The hunting mission was a pain, because of the bow and arrow and the deer discovering you.

It's funny, I agree with you, but I also (mostly) wouldn't change much, since I feel like it does a good job of getting to invested in certain things. I think the only thing I'd change is that Shoon really should have joined early. Like, no, that would not automatically fix everything about the pacing, but it's so weird that they do put in the effort to establish him to you early on and then you only get him at like the end of the damn game, practically, at which point you have like no real incentive to use him at all, since if you were wanting to, you'd probably just use Nikeah instead.
