Ever looked at a picture of a Band or a Musician then been very surprised by their sound?. They look like they should be in a different genre of music to the one they produce.
I hope I'm making sense.
Here are some for me.
Sleep Token - When you look at pictures of these guys, they look like a Black/Death Metal band with Masks and dressed like reapers etc.. yet when you hear them they almost have more of an Urban/RnB sound.. Not what you expect at all.. The song Vore perhaps has more the sound I would expect. Youtuber Bradley Hall did a brilliant video about this.
Ghost - I'm sure most of us are familiar with this one. You see pics of a Guy in Facepaint dressed as a bishop and assume this must be some Black Metal band.. Then when you hear them they almost sound more Poppy than you think. I really like Ghost personally but yeah, I've heard some people say they are basically if Abba were a Metal band.
The Black Dahlia Murder - In the early days they looked more like an Emo/Screamo band so was suprised they were a lot heavier than I expected. They kinda looked more like they should later but back in the day they certainly looked different to their music.
Post Malone - This guy looks like he should be the vocalist of a Nu Metal band so was suprised that he was more RnB like.. I know he has worked with guys like Ozzy so maybe he does have some Metal routes.. Feel free to let me know.
Those are some I have.. Got anymore?, do share.

Deafheaven don’t really look like a Black Metal/Shoegaze band at all in some photos.

Deafheaven don’t really look like a Black Metal/Shoegaze band at all in some photos. And they're even heavier live. I remember as a kid thinking KISS must be the most extreme thing ever between their image and the way people talked about them. Imagine my disappointment when I finally heard them and all their music was just bland and goofy arena rock/D-tier Hair Metal.

Ghost kind of pisses me off at how perfect that the imagery is for a Black/Death metal band…and then it sounds like it does. 😂

The whole corpsepaint thing only really exists as a grandfather clause for early acts and looks passe as hell when newer ones do it.

I remember as a kid thinking KISS must be the most extreme thing ever between their image and the way people talked about them. Imagine my disappointment when I finally heard them and all their music was just bland and goofy arena rock/D-tier Hair Metal. I had this same thought, but now that I think about it harder, they're kind of a more bubblegum New York Dolls packaged for kids, and that makes their image make a bit more sense.
Talking of the New York Dolls, I stumbled across a band from the early seventies called Tiger B. Smith and they had a proper early seventies glam rock look, so I was expecting some sort of New York Dolls/Slade/Mott the Hoople glam rock/proto-punk band. Nah. Nine minute heavy, fuzzy rock jams a la Sabbath or Hawkwind. I quite liked them, but it just wasn't was I was expecting at all. Picture below:
Also, not looks, but I always thought Kurt Vile and the Violators sounded like the name of some garagey punk band, which they're not.

Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Alcatrazz, et al) looks more like an 80s TV detective than a hard rock/heavy metal frontman.

Yeah, when I saw Ghost I imagined their music would be much heavier than what I've heard from them.

It took my quite some time to accept that all those Ed Sheeran songs I heard on the radio were being sung by that goofy ginger with the silly grin.

There's a bunch of YouTube reaction videos on Jinjer and their song "Pisces"... they look sort of a No Doubt tribute band and then she hits the chorus...

Black Sabbath basically is THE heavy metal band, and they dressed like 70's hippies. XD I remember on the Pop Up Video for Paranoid the little pop up said "Black Sabbath hired Ozzy for his "energy"" meanwhile on screen Ozzy was planted firmly in place gently bobbing his head.

Okay, be honest, back in 2003, if you went into the electronics/music section of a retailer or a record store, would you have guessed that this was a rap album? Or even these be rap albums, for that matter?

Not sure what I expected 'White Town' to look like, but Jyoti Mishra was not it.
