Not here, but elsewhere.
I’ve been checking out YouTube a lot more lately, but also other places. Some things seem almost reasonable like blocking out words that specifically involve self-harm. But now some places block out references to any kind of weapon like a “gun” or “knife.” Substances like “weed” or even “beer.” Also things like getting “drunk” are right out. But I just saw one that takes the cake. Or maybe it doesn’t. Because “hungry” was censored in one article I read.
I get why content creators do it. Because they’re walking on eggshells trying to attract ad revenue. But some of this is just starting to be some overly sanitized 1984 level bullshit.

“gun” & “knife” been censored for a long ass time now. Recall a bunch of songs from the late 90s, early aughts where they’d both be censored.

I recently watched a TikTok video as part of a news article where someone described the murder of their relative, but they avoided saying murder. I can't remember the verbiage they used, but it was so bizarre to watch someone in tears having to self-censor for something so serious. I'm assuming it was a TikTok specific rule.
I get that private platforms establish rules to court advertisers and financiers, but I do have to wonder how stuff like this is going to effect language overall as more of us spend our lives online. It's already jarring to me when people use meme speak in the flesh.

If anyone was bizarrely censoring non swear words, I'd know. And I swear on my copy of Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles that that would surely be something I'd notice.

It doesn’t, however, tend to block actual curse words.

Yeah as others have said Tiktok has its own language asa result of it's rules and because content is often recycled on multiple platforms it spreads.
Except hungry, that's probably due to the insanity of fat acceptance types, they often consider words like obesity a slur so censor them. Not sure why they'd censor hungry but there's a terrible Reddit both that picks up any vaguely related words so it would track.

Youtube needs to start censoring SKy Blue's butt in any AEW video.

I've always found the different levels of censorship by governments/cultures/whatever to be fascinating. Like seeing the old Chinese version of World of Warcraft with bones edited out of skeletons or gravestones being replaced with loaves of bread.

"Suicide" is another one. At the least you'll have to have the disclaimer before your video on YouTube.

And yet everyone still called them the Ninja Turtles. And what was with G.I. Joe becoming Action Force? Oh! Canadians turning the 90s Transformers series into "Beasties" so as not to mention "war". Actually, the WWF did the same thing post-9/11, dropping the Raw is War name and calling the second hour "Raw Zone". Don't get me started on WWE banned words. It probably is a swear to members of that community, but the word "midget" is being phased out. It is muted from reruns on Buzzr, for instance.

And yet everyone still called them the Ninja Turtles. And what was with G.I. Joe becoming Action Force? . Probably something to do with the original G.I. Joe being called Action-Man over here. And 80's Joe being a team of soldiers and not one man, thus named Action Force.

And yet everyone still called them the Ninja Turtles. And what was with G.I. Joe becoming Action Force? The Action Force toyline was originally a seperate toyline by Palitoy. Then Palitoy licensed the Joe and Cobra toys from Hasbro, then finally Hasbro bought them out and turned it into a UK rebranding of GI Joe (curiously, the Joe team in the Action Force comic were now based in Britian, making it a seperate continuity from the US comic stories).

Could be worse. Where I work, "liquor" in "Mambo No. 5" and "gin" in "California Girls" get reversed but it's done so badly that the result sounds unpleasantly like the n-word.

I could see some Botchamania endings in which the censored non-swear words lead to the last names of people unpersoned by WWE for one reason ir another, "Benoit", "Phillips" and "Bryan" for example on screen whenever the non swears are censored in reference to WWE's unpersoning of said talent
