I'm old enough that before Pee Wee ,Paul was just that goofy guy I would see in cheech and chong movies that my older cousins would show me.
Never really would have thought he was 70. But then I am almost 50 and Pee Wee was much older than he looked when the show was airing.

My childhood has taken a huge gut punch from this. I had the Playhouse replica set, the talking doll, a plush Chairry. I loved Pee-Wee, and I respected Paul Reubens more and more as I grew older.
I find it surreal that Reubens, who got the idea for Playhouse from Andy Kaufman (who was 35 when he stolen by cancer in 1984) was 70, twice Kaufman's age, and also stolen by cancer.
I'd like to think that Kaufman was the first person to greet Paul Reubens at the Pearly Gates, and they're just making everyone up there laugh like crazy.

"Heard any good jokes lately?" at the 1991 MTV Music Awards remains one of the best ways of disarming public mockery I've ever seen.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure is still amazing. The Large Marge scene is probably the first thing from a movie to ever scare me. Looking at it now that Claymation was hilarious, but as a kid that came out of nowhere and made me run out the room screaming and crying

I loved Pee Wee's Playhouse as a kid. And he was a lot of fun as Andrew Lansing in Murphy Brown. Was even nominated for an Emmy in a guest role for it. RIP Paul. Pips, I’m in the shrine!

This one really hit me in the gut, watched so much of his stuff as a kid. Probably the biggest pre-Simpsons influence on my sense of humor.
“I want to see Francis!” “He’s taking his bath!” “Oh really?? WHERE ARE THEY HOSIN’ HIM DOWN???”
Pee wee Forever. Paul Reubens Forever.

And of course, another wrestling Pee-Wee legacy was GWF getting Francis "Crybaby" Buxton from the movie.

I have never actually seen Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, but when I was a little kid, I watched quite a bit of Pee-Wee's Playhouse.
RIP to a legend

A posthumous note from Reubens himself:
“Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years. I have always felt a huge amount of love and respect from my friends, fans and supporters. I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.”
