Thanks to modern technology, folks have access to and knowledge of movies from the beginning of the genre to current micro-budget genre offerings. And I think that’s awesome, but it has kind of lessened the impact that movies have “in the moment” if that makes any sense.
So, I’m curious about what movies were released in your lifetime, that you feel have had the biggest impact on you?
Mine are Ghostbusters Back to the Future Robocop Bill and Ted Terminator (and T2) Jurassic Park
Honorable mention goes to the original Star Wars Trilogy which was a bit before my time, but was still referenced basically EVERYWHERE in the stuff I watched as a young kid.

From 1984 onwards that I’ll always watch, not counting super recent stuff? Off the top of my head:
Back To The Future, American Tail, Dirty Dancing, Ghostbusters (give or take three months), The Last Dragon, Beverly Hills Cop, Lion King, Aliens, Robocop, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, Falling Down, Balto 1, A Goofy Movie, Fifth Element, Nightmare Before Christmas, Demolition Man, Bill and Ted, Moonstruck, Friday, Goodfellas, The Rock (1996), Space Jam, The Big Lebowski, TMNT 1990, New Jack City, Dumb and Dumber, Men In Black 1, Last Action Hero, Billy Madison, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Aladdin, Jurassic Park, Akira, Cobra, Spirited Away, Terminator 1 and 2, Dick Tracy, UHF, William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, The Truman Show, Die Hard, Fargo, Goldeneye.

Grew up in the 90s and early 2000s Jurassic Park, Toy Story 1, 2 and 3, Shrek, The Lion King, Aladdin, The Blair Witch Project, Star Wars Episode 3, Saw, Saving Private Ryan --- all spring to mind as best films I saw during my childhood and teenage years.

Trying to keep it to “growing up” but those are the ones off the top of my head from youth to like, late high school thst effected me that weren’t older movies.

Blair Witch definitely was “a moment” type of film. I dunno how I forgot Saving Private Ryan. Shit had me f***ed up. In a good way.

Was born in 84. Going to just try and limit this to pre 2000.
Jurassic Park was easily the most excited I’ve been to see a film. I was 8 when it came out and was probably the scariest thing I’d seen up to that point.
Also E.T., Back to the Future, Terminator 1 & 2, Home Alone, Ghostbusters, Dumb & Dumber (Any Jim Carey film I was a big mark for in the 90’s right up to the brilliant Truman Show), Se7en, Lion King, Men In Black. Too many to name really.

Yeah I’d also add Seven, Heat and The Birdcage as other favorites growing up. “So this is hell- and there’s a crucifix in it!”
Should also definitely throw in Independence Day, Tales From The Crypt Demon Knight and the 1990 Total Recall in there too.
Also, All Dogs Go To Heaven still wrecks me.

I was born in 83, so a lot of my choices have already been mentioned. I will add the Land Before Time. At 40 years old that movie still hits me in the feels like a Mac truck.
One that was when I was a teenager but never got the attention it deserves is The Emperor's New Groove.
