They built The Boogeyman up huge, just for him to uh... really not much in the end lol ![](https://i.vimeocdn.com/video/490825522-6af71dba9323c09debe36175666811a0b46987b65182f5fa7d47c0e8bf0b0985-d) He got a ton of vignettes, and then even got that famous moment of scaring Cena, even won the King Booker feud basically but... they dropped him pretty quickly. He's still pretty remembered and even still pops up every now and again as a novelty act or cameo but given the look and everything, and how hard he was pushed in the one 2K game, they had major plans for him and it just kinda all stalled out because he could not really work anywhere close to how the character was portrayed I guess. I remember when Boogeyman got a couple of extra weeks of vignettes, because he blew out his knee at a house show I was at. Doing a taunt.

First one I thought of was Sin Cara and how after they made a giant deal out of hyping up having signed him then every step of the way was a total disaster.

Kind of weird example, but the Matrix esque vignettes hyped up Gail Kim as a female Rey Mysterio type in terms of being a high flyer which as it turned wasn't really her strength. She had a really solid career and Impact demonstrated how good she was as a more mat based worker, but those initial 2003 videos are just weird in hindsight.

To this day, these are some of my favorite vignettes, and I was beyond stoked to see this guy debut. Then he did.

What about Sean o’ Hare?
Then again, I’m not telling you anything that you don’t already know.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

How it started ![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/dKDZhL74pRk/maxresdefault.jpg) How it ended months later ![](https://www.thesportster.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/brodusclay.jpg) Billy Corgan saw that and thought to himself, "That guy could be an NWA World Champion!!!! If only I had the means to make that possible!"

I'm good with that. He's great as the giant mook in martial arts movies.

Will pre-debut hype ruin the Lord Tensai gimmick?

Berlyn. Not that it had legs beforehand, as we all knew it was Alex Wright...they even identified him when he first showed up with the new look. Then the Duggan match happened, and....
Now, depending on if he comes back, and what storyline he has...I'm going for a hot take:
Bray Wyatt, 2022.
Oh yeah, the White Rabbit viral hype was epic. Then it degraded into a story that tries to be cryptic but ends up being confusing. Maybe it got cut short by real life, but still.

I would argue that Boogeyman, sure, didn't become huge, but he also wasn't what I'd call a bust or embarrassment. Just kind of a modest success. yeah I think he was exactly what WWE wanted him to be. over mid-card comedy act. his gimmick was inherently ridiculous, he was on the wrong side of 40 when they signed him and his knees were already shot so I think they used him pretty well. only person who seemed to think he should be taken seriously was f***ing Cornette.

Glacier has to be *the* answer. Months of hype, and it basically Shockmastered.

the Shockmaster has to be the all time record for fastest jump from hype to "HE FELL ON HIS FOOKIN' ARSE!!!" in wrestling history.

Glacier has to be *the* answer. Months of hype, and it basically Shockmastered. On the topic, how about Outback Jack? Same months of hype, then just a midcarder/jobber to the stars. EDIT: I got an unsung, mostly forgotten, definitive answer. THE DESPERADOES. They got the same months of vignettes, yet I don't think they had one televised match under the gimmick. Only match I remember was a WCW house show in the Meadowlands, where they lost to the Freebirds (who got a total face reaction against the cowboys). Black Bart jumped to Global, I forget if Mantell and Colley were just given different gimmicks.

Well, he's got a good career in movies as being a giant henchman type so it's not all bad for him.
