"Just cut the guy loose. First of all, you're talking about a thimble full of talent to begin with. He's really only there because his dad was a soap opera star — that's it. Otherwise, he's making $200 a night on the indie circuit somewhere. This guy is not a star, he'll never be a star. By virtue of the fact that he thinks using real glass is going to get him heat, it should tell you everything you need to know about his potential. He doesn't understand the very fundamentals of the business." "These are things that can all be addressed and be fixed, but not if you're constantly inhaling bad air. Just wipe this thing clean, chalk it up as a learning experience. It is a learning experience because I have empathy for Tony — he's learning on the job." Of the 4 Pillars, Perry is the only one that is expendable.

I very rarely play this card, but... so says the guy who cut Austin and Jericho loose.
Anyone can be a star. Usually, it involves some alchemy of the right gimmick at the right time, but I think AEW has proven that this summer with several talents finding new creative strength. Even Perry's nepo baby heel character was starting to gain some traction before Punk cried a river.

Jack Perry gets huge reactions. Jack Perry has been in a lot of great matches.
Eric Bischoff fired Steve Austin for not being marketable. Eric Bischoff had a ton of great young talent leave WCW because he wouldn't push them, because he didn't see it. Bischoff ran TNA into the ground.
Bischoff's opinion is biased because he has to be negative to get clicks. The segments Perry was doing before Punk attacked him were getting big heat. His is not a serious opinion. He does not watch AEW wrestling. He merely reads about it and then says something that the negatives will repeat with joy, because it's just a negative take on AEW.

Didn't he write a book about capitalizing on public controversies in order to create cash?

I see that Bischoff got tired of people telling him he was right about the Punk situation and decided he needed to say some dumb shit again to balance things out.

Way I see it Jungle Boy being suspended is all the punishment he deserves. His situation is not the same as Punk's, as inextricably tied together as they are. This was the first time Jack ever had an altercation with anyone, and it was with a guy who had already been warned several times not to start shit with people. And he's not the one who got physical with it, Punk was. So I do think a suspension is warranted as he made a bad situation worse but unlike Punk he's very much in "first warning" territory.

Jack Perry has talent
right now I'm having trouble seeing how he can be a main event player, but that's fine
not everyone can be a main eventer or world champion
... firing him would be stupid, he's relatively young for a wrestler

I said it before but 60% nepo baby and 40% unhinged CM Punk parody would be an amazing gimmick which would make him a star.
He could even claim he's the real FTW champion because the belt can only be defended in America or some such nonsense.

The 'controversy creates cash' dude wants AEW to get rid of the wrestler involved with the most controversy?

I don't think Perry will ever be a world champion but if you fired everyone who'd never be a world champ, there wouldn't be many wrestlers left.
IMO punishment for bad behaviour shouldn't be linked to star power anyway. I understand why it is in wrestling, but it just leads to more problems.

Bischoff fired Austin because he refused to do some promo work while injured, at least according to Austin. He horribly booked Austin though.

Someone pointed this out on Twitter but this, and the Manchester thing which felt like a real "depends on how you were to him" situation, were the two only real controversies involving Jack Perry so far in AEW. And, like...if those are justifications to being fired in a big company then, man, there's a lot of people in both AEW and WWE who should be scared of picking up a phone when people "realize" that.
And yes, this coming from Bischoff, a guy whose solution to stuff like Scott Steiner shoot promos and Scott Hall coming to work drunk is "Hey, let's keep doing them! Nothing bad can happen from those!"
EDIT: To give an example, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch (and hell, Sonya Deville too) should all be fired for the Championship handover ceremony a couple of years back if we're going by Bischoff's logic of "people who cause things should be let go".

Yes, fire Perry and hire that young go-getter Hulk Hogan. He'll take the company to the next level.

“…and he never will be” betrays the actual malicious intent behind these comments. It’s not insight, it’s nonsense.
Dude’s 26. He’s got 10 years or more to become a star

The "never will be" boils down to personal dislike

JB screwed up with the comment but that is hardly a fireable offense. Bishoff is a dumbass if he actually believes this. I would think he'd know better than handing your competition a young prospect with miles of upside.

Bischoff's metrics always seemed to be "Is this guy going to be the next Hulk Hogan?" No, not everyone is going to be a generational crossover star. But a strong midcard is just as important to the health of a company as the main event scene. Bischoff never really cared about anything that was happening outside of his top six main eventers, and that's one of the many reasons interest in WCW started to plateau in late 1998. (And, as an aside, look at how many of WCW's midcard talent became main eventers despite Bischoff's best efforts.)
Like, yeah. Jack Perry might not be Hogan, Austin, the Rock, or Cena. He might not be Flair, Sting, DDP, or Goldberg. That doesn't mean he can't be a star, and that doesn't mean he's not valuable to AEW. Especially now that people are wrestling into their 50s and finding late-career resurgences. The dude has decades to leave his mark.
