at least have the balls to say that is what you want instead of insisting hey guys everyone wants what worked 30 years ago I'll take it one step further and add 'what worked 30 years ago and what, 20 years ago, was wearing thin enough that the general interest in the product began to ebb, leaving behind an absolute graveyard of big muscledudes who failed to interest the remaining crowd and keep interest from dipping off further". Sometimes the size argument relies on pretending that wrestling history stopped between 2002 and 2016, and suddenly one day everyone was just small and the casual audience went away.

Was Luke Perry really a big star? I know him for the obituaries. Besides that, being son of famous person is like being exceptionally tall - you didn't work for it, but it may work for you. Still, I doubt that being the son of Luke Perry does much for your drawing power or for the company's ability to draw in casual fans and non-fans. Just like I think there are some people that expect a wrestler to look a certain way in order to be a wrestler, because there are definitely non-fans whose first association with wrestling would still be Hogan. So I don't think it's not a discussion worth having in general. It just doesn't apply to Jack Perry and needs to be further underlined, which (almost?) never happens.

Eric proved he only has one mode when he got his second chance run with Hogan in TNA. Big factions. "Let's do NWO AGAIN" Like what Bischoff did was groundbreaking, and stuff like Bullet Club even in the modern day exists because of it, but when it comes to trying to understand the modern day wrestling viewer and trying to book for it, he's stuck 30 years ago. It didn't work in TNA, and when he got hired back to WWE he was fired again in like 2 months The arguments some of these guys use are really just scapegoats deflecting from the real issue... which is they're all Principal Skinner, and they've lost touch, they just think it's the children that are wrong.

Cjb made a point that I think shouldn't be undersold.
Its REALLY weird and offputting to comment on actual human beings and their jobs like you're just playing EWR/TEW and Jack Perry is just a collection of numbers on a screen. No wrestler is "replaceable by anyone else" to me. Everyone has something unique to offer because they're their unique selves.

The size thing... well it must be said that Land of the Giants 80s-90s WWF is very much an anomaly in wrestling history. Regular sized people existed in other promotions. Flair was 5'11" 180lbs for much of his prime when he was World Champion.

I think Perry is still really young and has the potential to take a leap into superstardom in the future. Not everyone develops at the same pace and he does have a connection with the crowd. Bischoff certainly isn’t the person to be listening to for identifying future stars either.

Technically every wrestler is expendable. We just saw exactly how expendable a top name is.
What is gross is "this person should be fired" or "I don't understand why this person should be employed".

Man...this dude don't got a clue. There's a reason why he hasn't been asked by Tony (or any company today) to run creative...

I thought it was worth mentioning here since it also references firing people (plus I just thought it was hilarious and needed a thread to post it in), NoDQ posted this whole article on fixing AEW (including hiring guys like Dutch Mantell and Al Snow) and it said they need to fire Action Brunson:

I don't think he's setting the world on fire right now but he shouldn't be fired. They should at least give him a year or so to find an identity and go from there. There's a case to be made that Tony should pivot away from the Christian/Luchasaurus combo after awhile and pair up Perry and Christian again. Jack Perry trying to one up Christian in terms of dastardly deeds could be a lot of fun.
Since I'm already in fantasy booking land, it could be fun if Luchasaurus took off the mask, went by a new name and found a new friend...cue the Alter Bridge.
