I think Cody's going to benefit by it. There's only 2 ways it goes for him. 1. Cody still gets his WM match for the belt and wins it. 2. Cody becomes the next Bryan/Kingston and that's a guy people wanna become world champion and he gets even more popular.
Now to the match itself outside of Cody stuff. I'm ok with it...if it doesn't involve a title. I forgot who said it (I think SRS or Denise Salcedo said it) but the Tribal Chief position is as revered as the world championship these days. They've built it up. It makes more sense for Rock and Reigns to battle over that than a damn belt. It feels like a big brother coming back to save the family if it's over that belt. I don't know what'll happen but I think regardless Cody is good. It's just a matter of how "good" the result will be. It should have been WM and it failed but he stayed over regardless of people saying he wouldn't and/or wishing he didn't. He'll be fine.
Rock coming back and being thrown into a WM slot again just feels like we're back in that "hey a part-timer is getting a major title shot at WM again guys" thing again and shit, I thought we were good but I guess not.

You know what I’m REALLY looking forward to? The next six months of DISCOURSE. Because wrestling fandom hasn’t been rewarding enough lately for someone like me who doesn’t care about attendance numbers, ratings or “THE PLAN”.

I wonder if they would push up Cody’s title win over Roman to the Rumble show. Could be the reason he’s likely being traded to Smackdown. Let's say they do this, they should have Rock main event both nights at Mania. Cody wins the title from Roman at The Rumble. Wrestlemania night 1 The Rock beats Roman for a shot at Cody's title. Wrestlemania night 2 Cody beats The Rock.

Mannnnn I know he's making a bajillion dollars and is a way way bigger name than before but I can't help but feel bad for Cody in all this. Cody hearing internal plans go from Cody/Roman II to Reigns vs. The Rock:

I think what gets to me a bit about all this is that Rock would be doing the match to lose to Roman. There’s literally no other purpose in doing it, especially with the job WWE’s doing at building anyone to even challenge the guy, never mind actually be able to take the belt from him. And then the moment he does lose, we’re just back with the same song and dance with Roman until they actually pull the trigger with Cody or, I don’t know, they sign someone like Starks away or build up Breakker or someone else from NXT. And even then, you’d need to do a lot of work to make people think they’re even worthy of being in the ring with Roman in the first place. We don’t know how long the strikes will keep up. I say do the match at survivor series and call it a day.

Once it didn't happen at the Hollywood Mania I stopped believing it'll ever happen. I'm even more convinced after tonight that it won't. If they really thought it was happening in April they'd have had Rock drop some little hint tonight. Not a full-on call out "I'm going to see you and kick your ass" type thing. But some little Roman tease to whip the crowd into a frenzy and get them talking.
I do think they'll probably end up in the ring together eventually in some kind of segment but I don't think there will be an actual match.

Night 1: Cody Rhodes finishes the story & defeats Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Night 2: The Rock VS Roman Reigns for the Title of Tribal Chief & the Chilli Pepper Necklace.

If they do Roman Vs Rock in Philly ROMAN better lose the title beforehand or...f*** THIS COMPANY Ya know what f*** this company. The match doesn't even need to happen, period. Even when you take out how silly it'd be to have the match for the title, you still have to factor Rock being in his 50s, him not having been in a match in over 10 years, combined with how gassed he looked the last time around, and how he injured himself in his 2 matches with Cena.

Having Rock go over would not only defeat the whole purpose of the story being designed to have wrestling's past put over the present, but it would reflect poorly upon the entire roster having Rock be the one to beat Roman.

Now that I think about it, In that segment he was talking about “what was best for the fans and roster” and it’s probably not Rock vs Roman at mania taking away from Cody and the rest of the roster fighting for the world title

Maybe I'm seeing it different since I had the benefit of watching Smackdown before I read this thread and saw the McAfee clips, but there was nothing about Rock's appearance tonight that makes me think he's going to be challenging Roman for the belts at Wrestlemania. I believe Cody beats Roman at Mania and I've seen nothing to make me think otherwise.
It was pretty impressive to read this thread and see so much "f--k this company" sentiments immediately generated by Rock shooting the shit with Pat McAfee on his show.

I would feel bad for Cody but he must have known there was a chance this would happen. When it comes down to it, if Rock or Cena want back in (or Vince decides he wants them back) he’s gonna get dumped down the card regardless of how much he busts his ass to carry the company or build a long term story when they aren’t around.

If you would have asked me a year ago,I would have said there is a 99.9% chance Rock vs Roman is never happening, but then I never factored in we could have a strike that lasts 9-12 months. If the SAG/WGA strikers are still ongoing in March-April I would say there is real 50/50 chance Rock decides to wrestle for a $10 million dollar payday.

In absolute fairness the f*** this company sentiment was already pretty strong regardless. A lot of this comes from the fact that they've literally been talking about doing this match for the last several years, and that any common sense would have dictated this title reign end last Wrestlemania. So WWE not getting the benefit of a doubt here isn't exactly unwarranted.
