I will also say that if The Rock comes out in public and says “I’m open to facing Roman at WrestleMania” after allegedly being close to having it happening earlier this year? If I’m TKO, I’m moving heaven and Earth to make that happen for the first big weekend as a merged entity. Especially since you can actually schedule it when Rock doesn’t have much going on until the strike ends.

I realized last night that, if this match happens at next year’s Mania, Vince is finally getting what he wanted a decade later.
At Mania 30, rather than going with the sensible story of Daniel Bryan being in the main event, Vince wanted to do nostalgia act Batista vs Randy Orton, the dominant heel champ with a stable backing him. But fans wanted Bryan and rejected Vince’s desires until he had no choice but to give in.
At Mania 40, rather than going with the sensible story of Cody Rhodes being in the main event, Vince wants to do nostalgia act The Rock vs Roman Reigns, the dominant heel champ with a stable backing him. But now, fans who would reject Vince’s desires have moved on to other companies. So Cody’s not gonna ride a wave of fan demand to the main event. At best he’ll beat Seth for the “I can’t beat Roman, he’s too strong” belt.

I see Roman winning any match with the Rock. If it happens to be for the title, even if the Rock wins, the Rock won't hold it long. Cody's story is more about winning the title at some point rather than who he beats for it, although it would be nice if he beats Roman and ends his title streak at the Rumble, Mania, or Summerslam.

Whenever you hear 'we haven't found a way to give fans something massive, something unprecedented...' I immediately think they are really saying 'we haven't found a way to make as much money out of it as we would like'.
I wonder if this match isn't as big or bigger than WrestleMania, and they want to do something closer to a more traditional PPV.

All I'm going to say is this: At this point WWE's not going to end Roman's title run outside of a Wrestlemania. That's just the fact of the matter, from their standpoint Roman's title reign is so huge that anything shy of a Wrestlemania ending would be anticlimactic. Which is one of the problems the WWE has... they decided that Wrestlemania is the only time important things cna happen... which means that any other PPV is filler...

There's no way that's true. 2022 alone had multiple memorable moments. In the past 5 years: Kofi winning the WWE title Cena returning as the Dr. of Thuganomics Becky main eventing/winning both belts Boneyard/Firefly Funhouse stuff Otis/Mandy finally kissing Drew thanking the fans after winning the title in the empty arena Cesaro swinging Seth like 40 times Bad Bunny doing Canadian destroyers and stuff Bianca/Sasha crying as the bell rings for their main event Roman stacking Edge and Bryan Bianca beating Becky Cody returning Austin wrestling a match The Sami/Jackass stuff Rey finally beating Dom's ass Rhea beating Charlotte KO/Sami winning their main event Brock F5ing Omos Most of Gunther/Sheamus/Drew

No matter how we all feel, that would do massive numbers and have far more mainstream attention than any possible match. Of course they’re going to do it and we’ll bitch about it and it won’t mean anything because everyone else will be talking about it.

It should've been at 39 for the sake of not dragging it out like they have to now, but if it happens at 40, that's still a big match worthy of a milestone WM. Cody's story is fine and dandy, but The Rock coming back to claim Head of the Table is an excellent story with family ties that needs to be told. Rock would have to commit to two matches at least (ideally a tag or two in-between as well): vs Roman, then vs Cody. Cody not getting the honors of beating Roman at WM is obviously a blow, but him defeating The Rock in his last match over the summer? That's not like a bad consolation prize, that is a huge deal. He comes out like a million bucks and is apart of headlines either way.

Rock will bring a lot of mainstream attention, and it’s the biggest dream match they have left. You don’t know how many years you have left of Rock being able to work a match. If the chance is there, then do it and figure out Cody’s story afterwards. In hindsight, if they could have done Reigns/Rock this year and then do the Cody story for 40, then it would have been so much better.

What if they did the following at WrestleMania 40?
Night One: Roman beats Rock Night Two: Cody beats Roman to Finish the Story

I’ll believe it when I see it as a lot can happen between now and April of next year.
I’m still going with Cody vs. Roman at Mania next year.

I was surprised at how f***ing old Rock looked. I mean, he is in his fifties now, but he felt like an old timer a decade ago when he wasn't even forty so seeing him aged beyond even that is putting him in UT/Goldberg territory

I think there's a simple way to do all of this where everyone wins and it finishes off the tribal chief story.
During whatever Survivor Series match that includes Roman, The Rock appears at the end and costs Roman and his team the match. The following Smackdown, Rock and Roman have that "Who's the Real Tribal Chief" promo and The Rock challenges Roman for a match at Mania 40.
Fast Forward to the Rumble: Cody wins again. Last eliminating Solo, who Roman is disappointed couldn't get the job done gradually losing the lone last member of the bloodline. The next night on RAW, Cody announces that even though the Rock and Roman is already penciled in as the main event, it's his right as the rumble winner to choose which title to go after, and he will finish the story and win Roman's belt. Thus the solution from Pierce is that Rock/Roman will main event night 1 and the winner gets Cody on night two.
Rock/Roman happens and Roman wins... Establishing himself as the "undisputed tribal chief" and getting that last win that he needs to solidify himself as such. Roman looks unbeatable now. The next night at night 2... Cody finishes the story and beats Roman winning the belt. All of Roman's backup plans to cheat are thwarted.
However the next night, Roman complains about the unfair advantage of having to wrestle the Rock the night before yada yada yada. This sets up Roman/Cody at Backlash in Hell In A Cell. No interference, no excuses. Cody wins clean. Roman acknowledges Cody as defeating him fairly, and shakes his hand and walks off into the sunset for a while until his eventual return as a face later in the year.

Respect, especially if you managed to fantasy book this sitting on the couch watching college football.
