Can you imagine if social media existed during the territory of Monday Night Wars days? I don't know if we'd have survived lmfao And these shows are at least generally good. People in 1998 would be on Twitter arguing over a quarter hour with Kurgan/Marc Mero going against Wrath/Mike Enos. I'm guessing Mero would have lost viewers every week, unless Sable was involved.

All things considered, AEW Dynamite being in the top 5 off its top night with a ton of competition is pretty good.

Thank goodness WWE, unlike their old rivals WCW, don't piss away appearances by major talents on weekly TV to pop a rating as a one off

Sticking on my old man hat, well, middle-aged man at least...
Having been there at the time, at an age when I really was all-in on the tribalism (I backed WWF against WCW), the most annoying thing was the myopic focus over quarter-hour ratings.
That's one thing that has definitely not changed. Hogan used to be a master of playing those smart, picking his segments to make himself look the hottest ticket.
Things back then were fairly similar, similar arguments, people are people. But it was a smaller pool of people (despite huge tv ratings, most weren't online) and slower responses.
Today it's a 24/7 firehose of Hot Takes, which I tune out 90% of for the sake of my own mental wellbeing.

Meltzer is saying both sides are happy from what he's heard and they should be. Both did well. I am not surprised, really. WWE got the numbers they wanted, AEW still did fine despite adverse circumstances beyond their control. Obviously, WWE won't and cannot throw that kind of starpower at NXT on a regular basis, but they didn't have AEW take a heavy bite out of their numbers, and they will hope to get some people who checkded out the show to do so again for regular episodes. AEW, meanwhile, took a loss compared to their usual, but far from a catastrophic one considering the circumstances, and WBD is probably pleased, considering they certainly know they dealt them a bad hand.

Agreed about the rapid pace...This is also the reason however that it floors me every time people act like this fascination with the numbers is a new thing as well.

Welp it's official he is definitely one of the ratings crew people haha
Kind of kills any "why do we care about the ratings" situation when the freakin boss pulls this petty of a card.
What a post.

Tony’s ok i promise. That's embarrassing. Going out sad. Just take the L bruh lol. It's like a guy who's crush chose another man instead of him and he's trying to cope with it instead of moving on.

Jesus Christ, Tony. You're veering into some Dixie Carter territory here. Just don't comment on it all. And if you do, just say "We're very proud of the numbers we did despite it being on a differently scheduled night, and we think it shows just how loyal our core audience is"
