Gotta be the most pointless signing they've ever made.

I don't even know if Triple H wants the headache of Ric, anymore. I fully predict him to start his 4th or 5th failed podcast on Conrad's grifters network just to shit on TK and AEW, though.
Hogan has a WWE legends deal, so Ric has a good chance in getting it too...
Reminder that Ric Flair gets a free pass always. Hogan ("the POS who wouldn't put over Bret in 1993") on the other hand....

Did anyone ever drink Wooo energy? It can’t be worse than Gridlock….can it. lol It's Ric Flair, so you know it's worse. I remember something about the taste being like skittles dissolved in battery acid, with a mushroom aftertaste.

Just pointing out TK's hypocrisy, that's all.

One more drink for the road before we never have to think of it again. You can instantly see his face go: "Man, what in the absolute f*** am I doing?!" Bart Simpson: Watch this, Lis. You can actually pinpoint the second when the drink causes his soul to rip in half.
*Clicks on the remote to slowly advance the footage*
Bart Simpson: ...annnnnddddd now.
*Picture freezes on Andrade grimacing*

I swear there's a boatload of people who just went "yeah this shit isn't worth my time" when Flair was brought in, hopefully Tony has gotten the whole signing childhood idols thing out of his system

Yeah, not surprised Flair's talent contract and the sponsorship fell through at the same time; if the point of it was just to embezzle money from the company by proxy into Ric's pocket, you kind of need to be making money to do that, and Woo Energy was not f***ing making money.

The fact he hasn’t been back since and only mentioned through the sponsorship sort of says it all in how it’s gone, really.

Hell of a hit to the company image even if it was to appease someone who by all accounts is a fantastic dude in Sting

Hell of a hit to the company image even if it was to appease someone who by all accounts is a fantastic dude in Sting I wouldn’t say it was a major hit but yeah, sort of not really needed in the long run. I think people would have less of an issue if it really was just “Ric’s here for some dates of Sting’s retirement tour” rather than what this was. It’d still not be great but it’d save us promotion time or whatnot.

Shit was exhausting, that short run either way

I'd say it was a pretty big hit for the company if only because all they got for it in return was like, a warm fuzzy feeling in Sting during a farewell tour where he was already kind of given everything. And I don't mean this as some kind of "Sting is a selfish dickhead" way I just think given everything else in play, that was a decision that he could have been told 'no' over.

I may have hated bloody Naito stinking the place up but can accept that's the price to pay for AEW being the obvious choice for any NJPW wrestlers looking to leave and getting the likes of ZSJ, Ishii, Shingo etc as guests. No real harm done. Any ill feeling is on NJPW not AEW. Long-term deals are different, as is that ugly logo making the show look worse, taken with a few other things around the same time it undermined AEW as an alternative to WWE. The ending of Dynamite this week was enhanced by the all-in graphic on the screen behind them. Imagine the whole thing taking place with Flair's fungus face behind instead. Might as well repost this just as reminder how much worse things looked with that eyesore there.

Just curious, do you think it did more damage than the All In footage release?

According to a report by Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the partnership between Ric Flair and AEW may have ended prematurely. “Those who have pointed out no “Wooooo! Energy” graphics on the screen of late, that is a smart observation and unless something changes it doesn’t look like you’ll be seeing that going forward. There was no explanation given but unless something changes it does look like that deal is over with.” The only downside is that Okada didn't get to call Flair the "b-word" directly to his face on Dynamite. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I think it did a different kind of damage; AEW previously passed on Flair after the DSotR episode and it felt like Tony was keeping him at an arm's length from his business. Then he went back on that and brought on the shriveled up rapist and plastered his mushroom juice all over the show, making it look worse even when Flair wasn't around. I think the All In footage stirred a lot more hell and bullshit that was already basically there in the first place, and also I guess it's worth keeping in mind that they put it out to specifically debunk Punk smearing the company. Even if it didn't have as big an impact, signing Ric was an entirely unforced error.

To people who were regular watchers of AEW, absolutely. There is something to be said for the aura and soul of a company, even if it's a wrestling company.
