Said it before and I'll say it again. Randy Orton was a goddamn prophet when he said that Tony Khan is Jacksonville Dixie. AEW isn't in a death spiral at the moment but it's painfully clear Tony is unintentionally steering it that way. This all started when Cody left as far as aew goes, yup.

AEW isn't in a death spiral at the moment but it's painfully clear Tony is unintentionally steering it that way. My only comment other than how f***ing dumb this is is that I don't see how this puts or unintentionally steers AEW into a "Death Spiral" The move isn't good but if Ric Flair's mere presence helps steer AEW into a deathwatch state, AEW was never stable and was always on the f***ing brink of death lmfao Unless Ric Flair is on every show at all times and when he isn't on screen, Excalibur is asking "Where's Ric Flair?", I don't really see this putting a dent in AEW, even if Ric has a PR implosion while employed to them. Kind of have a high bar for AEW when it comes to PR insanity he'd have to clear lol

When I heard this story and then saw it already 9 pages here. Yeah, doesn't seem to be a popular look here. Not sure a thread has went this long in near total agreement in years Yup, if this was a poll, it has to be 100%! After finally going through the first 9 pages, I can totally buy the "gets Charlotte" to sign with AEW train.

Meh, Flair does press in old WCW hotbeds for them, they promote his bathwater drink. I think the bigger deal is getting a sponsorship but whatevs.

9 Pages without a single inclusion from me yet in just two hours... yep ... I got nothin' folks! Lmfao Here's where I prove I am not "Mr. Defends AEW guy" because this is f***ing STUPID. I was fine with it if he was just gonna be there till Sting retired because it made sense to me, and Sting would have likely requested Flair there ... THIS? This is just inviting a lot of heat your way for no reason, especially with Tony being flippant about Vince. It was justified, but not if you're going to hire Ric Flair. Everyone knows what he's done, even if you could throw out the argument of "Oh he's changed" like... it doesn't change the fact it happened and he did it! I know AEW was going to sign him before DSOTR, it was pretty clear, but it's very surprising they still end up doing so after time has passed and he made some WWE appearances. It doesn't really expunge you from doing the same, it just puts you on the same level. At 74 years old, I have no idea what Ric Flair brings. He can barely cut a coherent sentence anymore, and now you will have people living in constant fear that this man might take bumps or wrestle for two years. You could have partnered with the stupid energy drink company without this man being a presence on screen for two years if you REALLY had to do something, but now we got this. I will be really impressed if we come out of this two years later going "Wow what a great run", like in any facet. I've disagreed with Tony Khan on a few things but probably nothing more than this, even Punk I was like "Well ok let's at least see if he can behave", here it's like "I don't see a single way this gets the value or return you want" even with the energy company paying most or all of the deal... Guess we're stuck with this in whatever capacity for awhile, just when we thought this place or the overall wrestling community climate couldn't get in a better mood right? Lol
We dont even know how often he will be on tv given that he wasnt on tv last night, after the reaction I wonder if it will be occasional apperances or he will spend the time backstage like Jake the Snake Roberts.

This all started when Cody left Would Cody, the son of Dusty Rhodes, make a giant stink about Ric Flair coming into the company or even PREVENT it? Feels like even if Cody were still there, this would have happened We can't blame any AEW misstep on "Cody left" tbh, Cody doesn't hold the keys and never did.

Yeah, can we not drive this thread into the inevitable “AEW is TNA/late stage WCW” wall now?
It was kind of nice having the entire forum in agreement about something for once, we really don’t need to go there. This was a bad move, no doubt, but Tony Khan has a long, long way to go before he gets into Dixie Carter’s orbit of ineptitude.

That is the best case scenario that it's more like a legends deal Him in a storyline or an angle where he has to be a constant presence will be an issue real fast lol

Ok... Over/under that Hogan will be next? Lol That’s part of the issue here. TK has publicly banned Hulk Hogan from AEW events (https://www.forbes.com/sites/alfredkonuwa/2020/06/02/tony-khan-bans-hulk-hogan-from-all-aew-events/amp/) for his prior conduct, but then turned around and hired Flair. Hogan and Flair are both problematic, and it’s a dangerous game for TK to apparently be casting judgment on which is “worse.” “It’s ok if you’re racist as long as I marked out for you when I was a kid”. - Tony Khan’s inner monologue.

People are acting like Cody wouldn't be personally rolling out the red carpet for Flair if he was still there when he signed.

It's not like Tony has been contractually obligated to hire him. He chose this. He obviously doesn't see the issue with it to even need a "best case scenario"

I don’t think it’s a Dixie or Bischoff move but it does have me concerned it’s gonna be like Flair and Andrade vs. Darby and Sting as Sting’s last match or that Flair will be more physically involved than anticipated given the new deal. Maybe that’s unfounded, but I’m more concerned today than I was on Monday.

People are acting like Cody wouldn't be personally rolling out the red carpet for Flair if he was still there when he signed. Cody is the biggest old school mark there is, he absolutely would have rolled it out for Ric Cody's entire reason for leaving AEW seemed to be a financial dispute, I don't think he would have given any sort of a shit about any of this like some people are claiming he was the foundational pillar of the company. Idk I watched Cody's entire run, it did not feel that way to me... I digress this is a Ric Flair signed with AEW thread and holy shit is that stupid to type lol

It's a best case scenario for US but unfortunately since Tony obviously thinks this is a good idea, he doesn't need a best case scenario. Sorry if I was unclear!
