Put him on commentary. He's done it before, he's good at it, he won't get hurt doing it, and "credible veteran in the booth" is always a welcome type of voice in the booth. It's not what he wants or what WWE wants I'm sure, but dude's got trouble staying healthy and the more he keeps tearing his body up, the worse the quality of his life down the line is gonna be down the road. He's always said too "Best in commentary." And it will 100% keep his mind sharp too. Unless he just doesn't want to travel during the rehab, this is a good call. Even a stint in NXT, since he's always wanted to mentor them. Booker T and CM Punk announcing NXT with Vic would be an acid trip every Tuesday! Oh no I don't mean 'while he recovers'. I mean permanently. Have him retire to the booth to keep as much of his health as he can and let him reforge a new legacy in retirement as a tenured commentary guy. If he wants a genuine third/fourth chance and a way to solidify his legacy, I think being able to ride out into the long term in the booth gives him a chance to do it without letting his AEW run overshadow an eighteen month WWE stint.

Great promo work from him tonight and also sets up his return feud (if McIntyre re-signs).

Dude needs to call it a career. Like, I'm a fan of CM Punk, the wrestler and the character (my thoughts on Phil Brooks are irrelevant to this matter lol), but this is the third time he's been injured since returning to the ring in 2021. I think that's nature's way of telling him to retire. I honestly feel like he’s the kind of person to not change up his pre-workout routines and prepares the same way he did 20 years ago. I know plenty of others that did this same thing with their workout routines (ie not incorporating more stretching to their warmup) and had similar constant issues. The body ages whether he chooses to accept it or not, and it’s up to him whether he wants to take it seriously or end up back on the shelf like this the next time he gets reactivated.

That’s f***ing rough. Good promo though.
On my late mama, I was watching the rumble and thinking “damn Drew’s going hard with punk” which character-wise, made sense. Not putting any blame on Drew, moreso that Punk’s body is giving up on him. Similar to Danielson I think. Time comes for us all.

He keeps saying he'll go until the wheels fall off, but they are falling off.
He's suffered three serious injuries in like his last 9 singles matches, I understand almost every wrestler ever has gone on too long and didn't know when it was time to stop but he really needs to take some time out and evaluate things.
He's a 45 year old that has never been a great athlete anyway that is picking up injuries at regular intervals. It's only going to get harder the older he gets. He should stop now before there's a genuinely serious injury. Commentary or be a manager, he'll always be able to cut promos.

That is the promo he needed to finally get out of the hypocritical doldrums he sat in since coming back. Mentioning his friend with cancer was a real moment and it really helped drive the point home
I just really wonder how much he has left at this point. He seems genuinely cooked. Three major injuries in that short a timespan also has to f*** with you mentally, I don't envy him right now, but it sure sounds like he's gonna try again, if anything to prove it to himself that he still can after well, all the shit the last two years
Now, will Drew still be there when he's fully recovered will be the real question given his contract situation, they sure seem confident he will at least be there to lose to Punk on his way out... guess we'll see.

I actually felt his promo tonight which has been lacking since he came back. But I still worry about how his body will hold up. He tries really hard but he's never been a natural athlete.

Shame how he has his best promo in ages, certainly the best one he has had since his return to WWE and he won't be able to follow up on it for a very long time.

And if he wanted to build towards a decent retirement match in the future a year or two down the line this would also be a good way to do that. I'm not saying he should, but it would be a way to keep him holstered while keeping one in the chamber that you can build towards.

It's REALLY time to retire. At least WWE wasn't stupid enough to have him win. I'll give'em THAT over AEW.

It's REALLY time to retire. At least WWE wasn't stupid enough to have him win. I'll give'em THAT over AEW. When AEW had him win he wasn't injury prone, hell when he won the belt the first time he wasn't injured, he got injured doing a stupid stage dive into the crowd. So we really don't gotta give them anything "Over AEW", even the second time, you couldn't predict another injury and then subsequently predict Brawl Out Punk was absolutely winning that belt from Seth at Mania if he didn't get hurt here either (And then Seth also getting hurt complicating this further).

Drama just follows Punk everywhere doesn’t it? He needs a new gimic when he comes back as a shy guy that doesn’t want the attention.
