Didn't stop them with Danielson. Also isn’t Drew’s issue solely about money? Like Bryan was going out to explore the new wrestling landscape no matter what but Drew just wants a big bag, right? If your top guys are dropping like flies before the biggest show of the year and you’re now drowning in Netflix money, give that big Scottish bastard his check and let’s go. IIRC there was a report saying it's been half money, half creative with Drew.

There’s a non zero chance Punk retires tonight. If there's a chance, it's like 0.0001%. He's probably only got a handful of matches left, but I don't think he's going to just give up unless for some reason his doctor tells him that his quality of life is at stake. There's a chance the dude rehabs it, maybe slims down slightly and manages to pull off another year or two. Hard to know until we get more of a sense of how his body was feeling going into the Rumble.

At this point, take the belt off Seth and let him recover as well. Rollins/Punk was the only match worthy of main eventing Night 1. I don't think any other Seth match would have that type of interest. Have Priest cash in, drop the title to Drew at EC, and then Drew drops it to Sami at WM.

Dude needs to call it a career.
Like, I'm a fan of CM Punk, the wrestler and the character (my thoughts on Phil Brooks are irrelevant to this matter lol), but this is the third time he's been injured since returning to the ring in 2021. I think that's nature's way of telling him to retire.

I’d imagine he knows full well he has big value to AEW as the top guy (particularly with the big Wembley show where he would almost certainly main event)

If I were him, I’d prepare to have a retirement match or two after rehab and then call it a career. It’s clear the clock is running out on him being able to do this.

You don't do IWA MS quadruple shots every weekend without taking a lot of damage on the way, but then guys like AJ and Joe were there with him I guess. Have to wonder how a lot of guys that age are holding together because even Owens and Zayn corralte from the same era. Example - think about the Ted Petty line up from 2004 and to now that's 20 years. How many wrestlers have gone that long at the top at this pace? I don't think he's done TBH because he still had the best match at Wembley despite his age and injuries and having an actual fight where he shoot monkey flipped Tony Khan and was still really consistent through the AEW run which you can't exactly Tom Magee the entire way.
the PC is going to be the best place for him though if he's done, really happy that he gets a shot at that either way.

He really returned, had his first match, and got immediately injured again
Three major injuries within the span of two years for a middling 40 year old... idk it might just be time to hang it up or reduce your schedule, that's just a nasty one.
I didn't like Punk's attitude and was ok with never seeing him on TV again but I never wish injury on a performer and for him to be looking to prove a point and prove everyone wrong, especially where te injury bug was concerned, and immediately tearing his triceps in his first major match back? That's... well that's just demoralizing.
Dude's been injured in two World Title matches and his big WWE return, I seriously cannot think of worse injury luck than CM Punk's.

I knew something would happen. At least I don't feel so bad for AEW/Tony Khan anymore because he had the same exact injury that kept him out for a year.

I guess it's more like 6-10 months maybe?
I thought he would make it back by MITB.
Summerslam hopefully is most likely.

Put him on commentary. He's done it before, he's good at it, he won't get hurt doing it, and "credible veteran in the booth" is always a welcome type of voice in the booth. It's not what he wants or what WWE wants I'm sure, but dude's got trouble staying healthy and the more he keeps tearing his body up, the worse the quality of his life down the line is gonna be down the road.

He's always said too "Best in commentary." And it will 100% keep his mind sharp too. Unless he just doesn't want to travel during the rehab, this is a good call. Even a stint in NXT, since he's always wanted to mentor them. Booker T and CM Punk announcing NXT with Vic would be an acid trip every Tuesday!

If he's out even longer, the one day I will absolutely circle on the calendar is the first day WWE is no longer on USA.
That first October show in 2024 I believe.

That promo in some ways kind of felt like a sequel to that weird “WE ARE CHICAGO” promo that felt like it didn’t match the story with him and Moxley in tone. I think this time it worked in spades because it felt genuine and earned. Him talking about his buddy almost got me choked up.
I don’t want to see the guy keep getting hurt but there’s a story in him trying to end it on his terms. I hope he can pull it off.

Also, just a last note on Punk with tonight's promo. And this is why I've always preferred character work Punk.
From 2006-2011 before the pipebomb he was amazing.
CM McShoot was tiring and just made his character look to be bitter at the system.
Him staying in the character work lane made tonight's promo work.
So get well soon Punk and whether it's Summerslam, Survivor Series or Royal Rumble, see you down the road.
