You expect the same person who threw a fit when TK didn't answer questions yet was completely silent when HHH didn't answer questions to honestly fact check Punk when he's going on his diatribe against AEW? Edit: I just remembered that Helwani is also the person who referred to AEW fans as "freakazoids". So yeah, it's no surprise that he let Punk bury AEW without any kind of fact checking. It's not debate club. Asking Punk about a huge list of topics and getting him to give his opinion is absolutely Helwani's job in that situation. And then people can make their minds up from there (as they have done). The idea it would've been a better interview for him to start arguing back and forth is wild wishcasting. He wouldn't have gotten 1/10th of the information with that approach. In any case, he literally asked the guy about Colt Cabana and the hypocrisy of his opening AEW promo. Helwani did that with TK when TK didn't want to answer questions. He turned it into an argument with TK. When HHH did the same, Helwani didn't turn it into an argument. Helwani is a grifter, plain and simple. No different than Cornette or Bischoff in that vein.

Was that TK interview a better interview because it became antagonistic? Not that I remember. I don't want to see people shouting over each other, regardless of who's being interviewed.

I also think Punk is really angry that he talked about being this big revolutionary that was going to change the wrestling world forever... but he's not the one that did it... the people that did it are basically all the people he's mad at. the Elite and Colt all managed to basically do what he talked about for years. And somebody who had a big hand in making wrestling cool again, was Roman, years after all the "Make Roman look strong" stuff.

There are obviously parts of the interview where Punk is pretty heavily giving himself the hero edit. For example, he seems to deny the widely reported stories about lunging at Tony Khan and yelling at him. And then TVs fell on Khan. That felt disingenuous, as well as a few other parts. But I’m not really interested in the purely gossipy parts. I even believe Punk, to an extent, when he says that he wishes AEW well. What I’m still thinking about, though, are the parts where Punk’s criticisms line up with what we already know about AEW’s flaws. - They ghosted Punk for months during his injury: Yeah. That tracks. They did the same to Marko Stunt when they were done with him. - Colt Cabana was not on AEW TV a lot and has not been on AEW a lot: This is very much another Tony Khan thing where he brings in veterans to be the job squad and then doesn’t use them after a bit. It’s insane that Cabana’s absence caused a huge blowup when there’s never been an effort to have Cabana as a featured star. He’s not unique in that regard. - Tony Khan kind of sucks as a boss: I say this with immense sympathy and empathy. I’m conflict-avoidant. I get it. It’s humanizing. But a lot of this, and a lot of AEW’s problems, including the MJF controversy that was made into an angle, could have been avoided if TK used his money and connections to hire someone who could deal with these problems and minimize them rather than letting them fester. I hope the company has improved by the time the next fight rolls around. - AEW should maybe change things up if they want to grow their reach: Everyone has said this. Random posters on this board. People within the company (Swole, Matt Hardy, Billy Gunn) and now Punk. I think it’s an oversimplification to say that they’re just about good matches. But in the same vein, this is what we’ve been saying: AEW needs a hot feud to start getting positive buzz. Giving Ospreay weekly exhibition matches is probably not the best long-term approach. It does need to be better with storytelling and character-building. That has been true for years, regardless of who is saying it.

Just to add, funniest thing about the guarantee contracts; the company that opened the floodgates? The WWF. The person they used it for? Marc Mero.
Like, they actually wanted Johnny B Badd (which made sense because he was a mainstay of the Midcard for years in WCW) but still. Sort of like finding out the first person to get a share of the gate in their contract was George “The Animal” Steele.

Granted, in retrospect, securing Mero helped bring in Sable to the company, who had just a big of a hand in the WWF’s late 90s popularity as Austin or Rock or Mankind did.

It’s one of those weird domino effects like “Bischoff releases Steve Austin” and “Meltzer writes tweet about ROH not being able to draw 10,000”.

I know he had a press conference and everything.

Can just leave it at this: at this stage, I don't see any reason to believe at least 90% of the words that come out of Punk's mouth.

I really wonder wtf cold did to have Punk not even want to talk to him without lawyers. Either way, Phil is definitely kind of a dick but I still love the guy lol Asked CM Punk to be mature about a situation and do a thing Punk literally promised him and Punk has thrown a bitch fit ever since and that has seemingly not gotten better with time, it has only billowed out and effected more and more people negatively. I feel like there’s gotta be some shit we don’t know about, that Punk doesn’t wanna make public

Colt was with the Dark Order and from what I remember in the middle of a storyline with them when Punk showed up. Like I think The whole "Cult" Cabana shirt thing was around the same time. He was absolutely featured less once Punk was coming in, completely vanishing from the Dark Order group with no explanation.

I watched out of curiosity, but lord I can't even stand the sound of his voice anymore. It's hollow and try hard.
I am mystified at the notion of "talked a lot = honest".
It was intimated several pages back, and it made me tilt my head.
In any event hopefully the entire damn CM Punk in AEW shit can just die now. While I prepare to have to endure him during a match at WM that I'm genuinely looking forward to.

But I think by then, Cabana was just making up the numbers. He wasn’t one of the group’s defining members. He didn’t have a strong kayfabe friendship with Page. The angle of DO trying to recruit him was long over. And to my point, Khan has had many weeks and months to use Cabana in AEW since Wembley. He got one week with Jericho and then… according to CageMatch.net, it’s been non-televised matches and ROH appearances. I don’t think TK is that invested in highlighting Cabana on TV, Punk or not.

At the end of the day I think Punk just didn’t and still doesn’t “get” AEW.

Honest -> basically read as (talkative) as always.
One shouldn't complicate being angry at Punk, he makes it so simple.

Outside of all his hypocritical bullshit, I just can't take him seriously anymore
He's feuding with a man that looks like he could rip his arms off, and it's not even being present like a Mysterio/Big Show "how will the underdog prevail" thing.
He's been unable to work consistently in the past, what, 3 years?
Add all his outside bullshit onto it and he just seems like a waste of money.
Seems like he's still selling merch, tho, so no real reason to not have him on the team...

I switched off the Ariel Herwani interview after 30 mins.
Punk's good for upto 10 minute promos and a 30 minute match, but absolutely grating in a long form interview.
