Regardless of the reports, this has very clearly been a case of 'when' not 'if' for a good month or so now. And WWE and Punk have been publicly flirting with each other on a near weekly basis. There's no way talent didn't know this was on the cards, even if they didn't know the exact details.
I'm very much on team 'it's never a work, doubly so if it involves CM Punk', but I'm making an exception for Seth's reaction. Real people in that situation would just no sell the whole thing, not turn it up to 1000% and go full Scrappy Doo. Also his whole thing with Punk has seemed like it's always had half an eye on working with him at some point.
Drew I think is a lot simpler. Regardless of last night, he'll be in AEW next year. And good! This is fun.

Holy hell at this thread being damn near 40 pages already! Did he even actually do something yet!? Biggest star in the biz. Biggest PRIMA DONNA in the biz. At least I can ignore him since I don't watch WWE programming (or AEW either).

I don't think Punk's backstage issues from AEW will be as big of a factor for this WWE run as people think they will.
1. I don't think he'll be on the show week to week. Less opportunity for him to piss off people/have people piss him off.
2. Punk respects WWE. He didn't respect AEW. He did at first, but that went sometime during his first injury hiatus in summer 2022.
3. The backstage stuff just doesn't come out as easily in WWE as it does in AEW.
Now, all that said, there's still gonna be backstage drama, it's Punk. But anyone thinking all the shit that happened in AEW will just immediately transfer over to WWE is sorely mistaken.

Punk respects WWE? When did Punk start respecting WWE? Probably once pen hit paper and not a second sooner. And the respect won’t be a second more after he is fired for cause within the next year.

Well interestingly it sounds like he didn't. Not even before his first injury. Apparently he'd already gone on about how he hated it there and wanted to quit before the Hangman thing even happened. Maybe AEW just really was that horrible and nobody likes to be there or something, but there's a solid chance Punk's headspace is one where he's just not going to be happy anywhere no matter what happens.

I think this run will be really short (through design or well, not) but I do hope we get corporate punk at least once. Give me Punk in the ring saying he loves Saudi Arabia in a Red Sox hat

WWE is much better structurally to deal with Punk. He can come in, do his shit, get on his bus, hang with his buddies, and leave. He's not a locker room leader, you don't have him involved in booking of the show; he's Hulk Hogan in his original run back with WWE.

I wouldn't ever be able to respect a company that fired me on my wedding day. Phil clearly has no integrity left. How much longer before his (untreated) mental issues cost him yet another wrestling gig?

I think the question we all need to ask here is...are the Young Bucks still going to do victory laps on Collision?

Relative to AEW and how he perceives them to run things he does, absolutely. He's wanted to go back there since Muffingate. I didn't say it doesn't make him a hypocrite. He absolutely didn't respect AEW or Tony Khan. He saw himself as a star bigger than the company. He felt he was above it all. I don't think he feels the same about WWE, that's what I'm getting at.

I think it will probably go OK at first as long as he is fine with the realistic barbs that are going to be shot at him by Rollins and others in feuds. I'm sure there will also be someone that tries to poke the bear back stage like say a Kevin Owens to see if he does the Jack Perry thing. CM knows this is his last big time run, so it will curb him for awhile. At some point, CM Punk will start getting too comfortable, though, and that is when a slip up could occur. I think he makes it through until at least one Wrestlemania. I'm not sure if he gets to Wrestlemania 2025. Hopefully, him being there doesn't directly lead to a key talent or two leaving. Punk needs WWE more than the WWE needs him.

I think this depends on your definition of respect. Based on what we know of him publicly, I don’t think it’s likely he has even a scintilla of respect for anything or anyone except himself. But, he doesn’t see WWE as beneath him, like he did AEW by the end of his run there.

But maybe respect isn't the word- tolerate might be a better word to use

I just don’t see what they do with him that won’t make him pissy. Either face or heel he’s behind the teams in the war games match at least.
