And I'm more concerned we could have another Fury Road situation at the box office, where the budget ballooned so much due to the long development time, that it's also going to end up losing money and needing home media to bail it out. Your concerns look justified. Fury Road opened to $109 million worldwide and lost $20-40 million at the box office. Furiosa has a smaller budget, but not by much.

Word of mouth being good will probably help it, but yeah, I kind of expected that this was always going to be a prestige flick intended to make a splash in streaming/physical media sales.

I am glad that it sounds like it's very good, though.

I absolutely loved this. Went to the critics' screening on Monday night after having re-watched the franchise in the nights before and the tone, themes and style fits absolutely perfectly. It's amazing that George Miller continues to be the one dude to always, always nail the post-apocalyptic mise en scene better than anyone. Incredibly fun, incredibly satisfying, I have so many great visuals and lines from the movie burned into my head. Highly, HIGHLY recommend going to catch this in the theater. Especially IMAX, they made every inch of that screen worth it. Just a beautiful wildly entertaining film.
If you want to hear more, here's my full spoiler-free review.

Interesting thing about Miller talking about the game: this movie actually confirms that the game is canon to the movies.
The movie's villain, Dr. Dementus, is mentioned and is the subject of the mission "Ghosts of the Past", and Immortan Joe's son Scrotus is Scabrous Scrotus, the main villain of the game.

I saw this last night with my brother, we both liked it. It not as good as Fury Road but that's not an insult. This is still really, really good but FR's straightforwardness and absolute zero fat makes it an all timer. This takes a bit to get going and kind of bounces around a bit but all the places it went were still good. Things I liked (spoilers): {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} The War Boys are again one of the best henchmen in all of movies.
I love that they learn about the Citadel because a brain damaged War Boy just told them.
RIP big headed kid War Boy, may you ride shiny and chrome.
The Imperator before Furiosa was awesome. He was a bit too perfect and an obvious Max stand in but he was still great.
I liked how much she just sort of bummed around the citadel and no one knew who she was. It makes sense, it's the wasteland and she would need to stay where civilization was, people also wouldn't recognize just some random kid.
The action was of course, f***ing great.

I went to go see it Fri at noon at the IMAX at the Palms here in Vegas. I loved it; I thought it was great. Is it as good as Fury Road? No, but then again that's like saying "So and so film isn't as good as Citizen Kane". Furiosa is much slower than Fury Road; that's a good thing since they have to build the world of the Wasteland more in this. So I enjoyed that. So yeah, go see this film on the biggest screen you can with the loudest sound system possible!!!

Doesn't exactly shock me that a spinoff a decade later about a secondary (billing-wise) character from a movie that lost money to begin with is doing poorly. No quality judgment on Fury Road, not seen it, but it kind of just seems like you're banking on it having had some big pop culture breakthrough in light of its critical praise that really never actually happened.

The game at this point falls in something of a grey area. It was intended to be an official prequel to Fury Road, and was developed using Miller's notes, but Warner Bros. effectively fired Miller early on in development. Miller disowned the game and considers it non-canon, though there's very little canon material that contradicts the game – the events of Max's relationship with Hope and Glory is different in the comic prequel and flashbacks in Fury Road. I know Miller may not be happy with it, but the game is an underrated gem. A little rough around the edges, but the vehicular combat is nice and solid, the hand-to-hand combat feels nice and crunchy, and it does a good job of making the desolate wasteland interesting.

If IMDB is anything to go by, the game's side character Chumbucket is also in Furiosa. I saw it Saturday night, and it was the most packed theater I've been in in years. I hope it rebounds and at least breaks even.

I hope it rebounds and at least breaks even. {Spoiler}Yeah, Chumbucket appears late in the movie where, fittingly, he offers Furiosa a car.
The game's main villain, Scabrous Scrotus also appears in the movie, though the game threw out Miller's concept of the character and made him an intelligent, sadistic version of Rictus Erectus.

When I think about modern underrated games, Mad Max has to be near the top. The entire concept lends itself to the most video gamey video game possible and it is a damn good time.

I really feel Marvel/Disney did a lot of damage for women who want to be leads in action movies. Everything the Marvel movies did wrong when establishing "Girl Boss" protagonists, this movie did right. Genuinely loved it
I think audiences are generally tired of being preached to in various movies and this movie got caught up in that, despite not really doing that at all. If it came out a decade ago, After Mad Max and before the explosion of this culture war, it would have made money
