#65 - Killers of the Flower Moon (Apple TV+)
*1st Viewing
The white man ruined everything. But yeah, while I appreciate this and there's a lot to like here, I didn't love it, partially because it drags at points. Still, pretty great. [****]

Home Alone (who knows how many times)— always impressed by how watchable and fun this is. Candy ja a true delight in it.
Killers of the Flower Moon (ninth viewing I think) I think it’s the best of the past twenty years or so, sometimes a movie just clicks with you on a personal level and this was it for me. Can’t get enough of this movie.
Spiral—I have to admit I am not really a SAW guy but wanted to like this and just sorta couldn’t. Not awful or anything but something about Rock took me out of it, I dug the atmosphere of it but felt like it was built around a reveal and everything else got added on later if that makes sense lol

18. Little Giants (1994)19. FernGully 2: The Magical Rescue (1998) 20. House II: The Second Story (1987) 21. Barbie (2023)Now the first thing you'll notice about this movie is that it is under two hours long. Considering how contrary that is to every other major blockbuster of the Summer of 2023 I can only assume that this movie was a massive critical and commercial flop... What's that? IT WASN'T?!?! The exact opposite in fact? Well, who would've thought that theater audiences would actually like a movie that's not an overly lengthy and bloated film directed by an auteur who doesn't know how to edit? Live and learn, I guess. Whatever, fun movie about finding yourself and breaking out from the mold that society puts you in.

This was clearly made to be a good time and while it has some good ideas in there, it's just never quite as fun as I wanted. [**½]

74. Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009) 75. Just Like Heaven (2005) 76. Rhinoceros (1974) - Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel teamed up again after The Producers. Funny at time, but can see why it hasn't become a cult classic or anything. 77. Scooby Doo and WWE: The Curse of the Speed Demon (2016)

Watched this with my mom (her first time) and just like the first time around, I had a blast. I know it has its issues but I could watch these three play off of each other for hours. [***½]

17. 21 Bridges - Watched this on DVD. I hadn't watched a lot of movies lately. This movie was overdue, so I decided to watch this finally. I know that this was one of Chadwick Boseman's final films, and I must say that it was a good effort on his part. It's an interesting crime thriller and had some decent action scenes, but I also think that certain plot elements may become clearer on repeated viewings. I watched it and was intrigued, but I was also talking to someone while watching. When the time comes that I may watch it again, maybe I will pick up on the plot elements.

20. House II: The Second Story (1987) 21. Barbie (2023) 22. Strange Brew (1983)Another find on YouTube. I remember the DVD for this being one of the first things I put in my Netflix queue back when I first signed up for them in 2004. But as it got closer to delivery I removed it, as other things got released that I'd just rather watch. Did I make a mistake? Well, after watching it, I can honestly say... No, no I did not. I know this is a cult classic and it has its fans and defenders out there but I just wasn't feeling it. The random flying dog was cool, but otherwise it did nothing for me.

37.HAUNTED HARMONY MYSTERIES: MURDER IN G MAJOR (2023) Hallmark Mystery movie where a ghost helps a choir leader solve his murder and clear his name while also helping her hit it off with the local attractive policeman. Typical Hallmark stuff but with ghost humor, so I'm good with it.
38. THE WENDIGO (2022) Found footage movie where a YouTube/Twitch Influencer goes into haunted woods to spend a night antagonizing the rumored Wendigo and instead disappears, causing his clout chasing "friends" to flock to the woods to be the ones who find him. Things go...poorly. It's a cheap, short thing that suffers from your typical "It's people walking around the woods arguing until the third act shows up" found footage trope.
39. HERE FOR BLOOD (2022) What if a group of masked home invaders expecting to find a young college girl and the child she's watching instead find the young college girl's bodybuilding pro wrestling boyfriend who was filling in for her so she could study for a final? Throw in an ever ramping collection of occult nonsense and this thing was a hoot and a half (an official ranking if I've ever created one).
40. HIGHER GROUND (1988) Musician JOHN DENVER plays a former FBI agent who retires to Alaska to help his best friend (Karate Kid's own Martin Kove) with his air delivery business (meaning a lot of shots of John Denver flying...yeah) but soon finds himself have to deal with a group of bad guys willing to murder in order to keep their bootlegging scheme in play.
JOHN DENVER HAS A FIGHT SCENE!
41. THE EYE (2008) Jessica Biel gets a "Ghost Whisperer" cornea surgery to return her sight and must deal with the constant assaulting visions of ghosts that will either drive her insane or force her to solve the mystery of what happened to her eye donor. It's got some pretty bad CGI at times (plus a very young Chloe Grace Moretz as a child cancer patient) but it was inoffensive and a decent watch. Not as bad as advertised.
42. EVE OF DESTRUCTION (1991) Gregory Hines is a military man called in to hunt a humanoid robot designed to look like the head scientist of a "Make robots that look like humans" government experiment because I presume Terminator was a blueprint and not a warning to these people. Added bonus, to help the robot be more like a human, the scientist lady also downloaded her memories into it, including the traumatic ones that an unstoppable robot woman may want to avenge (sorry, Deadbeat Dad).
I had a good time with it.
43. HITMAN'S RUN (1999) Low-budget action movie directed by the same guy who did Commando and starring Eric Roberts (who finds the most nonsense way to take his shirt off to show his abs in this thing).
A mob hitman turns state's evidence when he doesn't want to kill a friend. However, two years later, the mob has a hacker rip the Witness Protection list off the FBI's servers and now the Hitman has to shake off the rust in order to protect his new family.
Not that great, but a lot of guys shooting guns and cars chasing cars. An absurdly fun telephone booth moment in this one.

I know this is based on the director's life but I think more alterations to the truth would've helped. The relationship between the protagonist and her mother was the most interesting stuff while seeing her with her friends and the guy she bonds with felt like they dragged things down. Nico Parker does great work though. [**½]

I found this rom-com a lot more charming the second time around, mostly due to the mystery element and a likable cast. [***½]

23. Brewster's Millions (1985)And another YouTube movie. You know, for all the talk of Blazing Saddles, I really believe this is a much more likely choice for movie that couldn't be made today for various socio-political reasons. But anyways, fun little movie heavily buoyed by the ample comedic talent of Richard Pryor. That said, John Candy wasn't given nearly enough to do, and I honestly could've done without the love triangle.

18. Ghost Rider (2007) - Watched this on Blu-ray. I had never seen this movie until now. I'm not gonna pretend that I know a lot about this character, but I do plan to read some comics soon. However, what led me to watch? This was that I found a copy of the novelization at the library. I figured it was time for me to finally see it.
This was one of those pre-MCU Marvel films, so it wasn't part of a shared universe or anything like that. I also recall it had mixed reception when it came out. It also has that mid-2000s vibe with the visual effects, like the quick cuts, the dated CGI (especially when you see Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider form), and I also some similar vibes to the first Hellboy film with the lighting.
Of course, I can't argue with some of the complaints this film has, especially with the visual effects and some of the dialogue. Nicolas Cage always makes things more watchable because he is basically being himself. However, I found it fun in some areas. I also noticed Rebel Wilson in the film. This was still before the "Pitch Perfect" films.
It's not a good film. I wouldn't call it one of the better pre-MCU Marvel films, but I would be lying if I said I didn't have fun with it, even if I laughed at a lot of the bad visual effects and dialogue.

23. Brewster's Millions (1985) 24. Crocodile Dundee (1986)[Australian]Crikeys. This is a right bonza movie mate. Fosters.[/Australian] Another YouTube find. They have the entire trilogy but I don't think I'm gonna bother with the other two. It's kinda thin on plot, most of the movie just being Mick moving from one random antic to another, but like all Paul Hogan movies its appeal is dependent on how charming you find Paul Hogan, and he was probably at his most charming here. Fun times.
