25. Panic Room (2002) - Watched this on DVD. It was a stormy night. I looked through all of my checked-out library items. I have plenty of things. One I wanted to do is a little long, so I'll save it for another day. I saw some others, and then came across this. I remember hearing about this movie. I had my chances to watch it, but didn't go through with them. I figured why not.
I haven't seen a lot of home invasion movies, but most of the ones that I have seen like 2005's "Hostage" (as well as read the book the movie is based on) and 2018's "Breaking In," there is a plot involving criminals trying to rob rich people and/or steal money that is hidden inside the house. Just like how there are the usual band of thieves like the ringleader, the person who is professional and doesn't want to hurt anyone, and of course, the violent psychopath. Yes, even though I haven't seen a lot of these types of films, I have seen the usual clichés.
I found it to be a solid film, but I think a lot of it was because of David Fincher's direction. Now I thought Jodie Foster did well in this film as the action mom, and say what you will about Kristen Stewart, but even at the age she was in when she did this movie (she was 11 when it was shot), she did fine in the role, especially when showing her physical state when she was in need of an injection. Dwight Yoakam was terrifying in the role as the psycho. I am not familiar with his music (I am not a country music fan), but I did find him likable in the "Crank" movies. Anyway, regarding Fincher's direction, I liked how there were scenes with a moving camera going from one place to another, as well as some of the dark lighting, and even the CGI worked in some areas, no matter how dated (like very early-2000s) it was.
I would say it was a solid thriller.

#81 - Four Brothers (Paramount+)
*2nd Viewing
Hadn't seen this since it initially came out. It remains a solid action movie with some heart. [***]
#82 - Crush (Hulu)
*2nd Viewing
Decided to rewatch one of my favorite recent rom-coms and it's still really good. [***½]

26. Elfette Saves Christmas (2019) 27. Blue Beetle (2023) 28. A Knight's Tale (2001)The second greatest movie of 2001. Josie and the Pussycats still gets the nod over it. Honestly, as much as I love this movie, the love story holds it back. Jocelyn is just not that interesting a character and her chemistry with Will is dodgy at best. 29. Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000 (1999)Yes, I'm watching this because of the John Oliver video. For those not familiar, well watch the John Oliver video. It explains it better then I ever could. Ok, for those who won't or can't watch John Oliver videos, this was a direct-to-video movie put out in 1999 by Chuck E. Cheese restaurants. It's a mix of live-action and people in costumes against really primitive CGI backgrounds. Chuck E. decides to enter a rocket ship race on another planet to win enough money to save some kids farm. It's a pretty crap movie. Did kids really watch this back in the day?

2024 New Releases #9 Bob Marley:One Love
This is a fairly standard musician biopic. As someone who didn't know an awful lot about Bob Marley going in, I feel like I didn't learn an awful lot about him as a man.
The performance from the lead and the actress playing his wife do a really good job and when they have something to get their teeth into they absolutely nail it. But for the most part the script doesn't give them much to show off.
One thing that I loved about this movie is that all the characters spoke in Patois, which was super enjoyable to listen to. It might be a bit jarring to begin with but I compare it to going to see a Shakespeare play. You understand the words and it might take a half second to decipher things as although it's English, it's not in the form you're used to hearing.
VERDICT: A perfectly average musician biopic full of sentimentality and a fair share of cliches with Marley's songs replicated to a high standard.

26. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Watched this on Blu-ray. This film is definitely one that I have had my personal watch list for too long. I had to decide on one tonight. I picked this one. I might watch some other Guy Ritchie films soon.
I really should watch some other British films, in general. I could see that Ritchie had a style with this one as this one was a crime comedy, though it did have some serious moments. The dark comedic elements went with the style Ritchie went for. I found myself laughing at some parts. This film also had a good soundtrack. I also wonder if some plot elements involving different crime outfits going after the main group inspired some story elements in that old PS2 game, "The Getaway."
I am aware that a director's cut exists, but I went with the theatrical first. One day I'll check out that verion.
I might check out "Snatch" soon if I am in the mood for another Guy Ritchie film.

#83 - Game Night (Blu-Ray)
*3rd Viewing
Just an absolute blast of a movie even on multiple viewings. [****]
#84 - Once Upon a Studio (Disney+)
*1st Viewing
A really cool way to show off so much of Disney's history and I appreciated how they really included even the less famous projects. [****]

If you get the chance check out Free Fire by Ben Wheatley. It's a really fun dark comedy set in the 70s about a gun deal that goes wrong. Very strong cast and one of the rare movies where you get to hear Cillian Murphy use his actual thick Cork accent.

15. Spider-Man: No Way Home
For various reasons never managed to catch this despite really wanting to.
Wow this was SO good, all the older characters were handled so well, such a collection of talent, the MCU Spider cast at their best. If not for rights issues, Spider-Man would have made an amazing backbone for this phase of the MCU. As the multiverse stuff creeps in, he has to reestablish his identity, bring everything together as the heart of the team.

28. A Knight's Tale (2001)29. Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000 (1999) 30. Ready to Rumble (2000)For those not familiar, well geez man, where have you been? Produced by WCW just before they started completely falling apart, this movie played no small part in accelerating that collapse. Despite its historical significance, I've honestly never been interested in watching it before, but it showed up for free on YouTube so I figured now or never. Should've picked never. This is just awful. I was not even twenty minutes in when I went "I can't watch anymore". Yet somehow I did and I'm worst person for it. The most unrealistic part of the whole thing was that it takes place in Wyoming, and as we all know, Wyoming doesn't really exist.

*1st Viewing
This movie is ridiculous in the most 2000s way possible. [***]
#86 - Scary Movie 4 (Roku)
*2nd Viewing
I couldn't get in to see an R-rated movie at this time and had to see Scary Movie 4 in theaters instead. It was terrible then and still is now. The only time I laughed was when Shaq heard a voice and goes, "Kobe?" [*]

27-Flamin Hot-HULU
Was told to find something we had never seen and was funny. This was listed under comedy. The maybe true story of the birth of Flamin Hot Cheetos?
7.4 VerChachi Ties out of 10
28-Pinball The Man who saved it-HULU
Really well done drama about the man who got the NYC law banning pinball machines over turned. It is also a halfway decent rom/com.

28. A Knight's Tale (2001)29. Chuck E. Cheese in the Galaxy 5000 (1999) 30. Ready to Rumble (2000) 31. The Marvels (2023)Another middling superhero movie from 2023. The three leads were great, and there's some good action, but it's held back by a paint-by-numbers story with a generic threat from an uninteresting and forgettable villain. Seriously, I could watch this movie a hundred times and I still would not be able to tell you her name without looking it up. And I know I'm in the minority with this, but the Khans really should've disappeared from this movie after the story left their house. They were obnoxious and added nothing to the space station scenes.

7. Elvis
Austin Butler did a fine job of portraying Elvis. Unfortunately Tom Hanks’ version ofColonel Parker was just a mess of awful prosthetic makeup and a mishmash of competing accents. (Both my wife and I noticed occasional traces of Elmer Fudd in there). The story was a bit disjointed but at least it looked good. About what I expected out of a Baz Luhrman film.

Couldn't tell you for the life of me what happened. There was a bad lady doing bad stuff... But the chemistry between the Marvels was great, Iman in particular was fantastic. I think I have a slightly better opinion of it than you, had a great fine, the singing planet bit I loved. I think the MCU at this point works best with character work. After Endgame, all the attempts at the big, universe changing threats are falling a bit flat but the characters are fun. This film but with a smaller, more personal focus would have been a bit better.
