35. Avenging Force - Watched this on YouTube. I had heard of this movie a while back. I know it starred Michael Dudikoff and it had a plot akin to "The Most Dangerous Game," but I didn't expect there to be similarities to films such as "Hard Target" and "Surviving the Game," both of which I need to revisit (I own "Hard Target," but I may buy "Surviving the Game" in the future). However, it must be noted that this movie was released seven years before "Hard Target," but the similarities to the setting being in New Orleans, Louisiana and a similar plot, I don't think it was a coincidence.
I also had read that this film was originally supposed to be the sequel to "Invasion USA" with Chuck Norris, but then the plans changed. It has been a while since I had watched that one.
Nonetheless, for a low-budget action movie, it's a fun thrill ride if you're familiar with "Cannon Films" (or as it was known before, "Golan-Globus Films") with them being low budget and cheesy. Michael Dudikoff delivered in the fight scenes given he is a legit martial artist. Now that I think about it, I should check out the "American Ninja" films.

41. The Flintstones (1994)Why do all the movies I watch lately seem to be from 1994? So I got interested in seeing this again after watching the Hats Off Entertainment video on it a few weeks ago, and discovered it was available on Netflix streaming. Huh, I guess I don't have to call it "Netflix streaming" anymore with them ending their DVD service. Well anyways, it's on Netflix. Over-all, a sweet and fun, if forgettable, little movie. No big complaints.

36. Dangerous Game (1987) - Watched this on YouTube. I have been interested in checking out some "cat-and-mouse" and survival thrillers lately, probably after watching "Judgment Night" recently. I could have put on another similar film that I own, but I wanted to check out something new. I also found out this film's existence by reading a thread on Filmboards.
With that said, one thing I must note is that this movie was directed by Stephen Hopkins, who also directed "Judgment Night," and also "Predator 2" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street 5." Those films were released after this one. I think it was his directorial debut. I also wanted to check out a film from another country as this is an Australian film, as in it's done by Australian producers and filmed in Sydney.
It's a horror thriller, kind of a slasher, but I must note that there isn't much of a body count or gore. It is violent to a point, but nothing extreme. That doesn't make the villain less intimidating, though. The lighting does give it an unsettling feel at times.
It's an entertaining B-movie, but if you're going to expect gore and violence, you'll be disappointed. It's rather tame in that regard.

A tremendous screenplay and great performances lead the way for one of the better satirical films in recent memory. [****]

9. Lou
When a young girl is kidnapped, her mother recruits the neighbor to find her. A fun, low budget action flick with good fight scenes and some entertaining twists.

105. Sightseers (2012) - decent dark comedy overall 106. Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) - one of the best faux documentries that doesn't have Christopher Guest's name attached. Delight overall 107. John Q (2002) - enough tension here to keep me interested.

2024 New Releases #12 Dune: Part Two
When I saw Part One when it came out a few years back, I remember very clearly the things I enjoyed most about it. The world of the story felt full, the movie didn't hand hold and feel it needed to explain every little thing, the visuals were stunning, the soundtrack amazing. All these things carry over to Part Two.
Part One was a lot of setting things up, and in Part Two we get the pay off which is extremely satisfying. I won't say too much as to not spoil things but the story very much plays with the idea of the 'Chosen One' character trope and shows just how terrifying the act of a real life messiah figure coming about actually is.
In a time when people are complaining about movies being made by committee and that everything feels same-y, that is not something you can accuse Dune of. This is very clearly Villeneuve's vision and I'm finding it hard to think of anything in recent memory that I've seen that feels like these films.
VERDICT: This film is near 3 hours long. As I was watching and had the unconscious thought of wondering how long was left, I found myself hoping that the movie wouldn't end yet and was happy whenever a new scene would begin. I think that says it all.

41. The Flintstones (1994) 42. Labyrinth (1986)So I went to a Fathom Event. Next time I go to one I have to remember to get there earlier. I thought ten minutes early would be plenty of time but when I got there the theater had their tickets window closed and I had to redeem my ticket at the concession stand which was packed with people getting actual concessions. I wound up missing the first few minutes of the movie. Anyways, it's Labyrinth, don't really know what to say about it other then I've always enjoyed it. Glad I could see it on the big screen at least once.

37. Survive the Night (1993 TV movie) - Watched this on DVD. I had an itch to watch this recently. It's another one of those "urban nightmare" survival thrillers. I have been on a kick with those types of films lately. Hell, I might put on "Judgment Night" again soon because why shouldn't I? However, this movie is very similar to that one. Unfortunately, it's not very well known. You could even say that it is rather obscure because it was a made-for-TV movie from 1993. The plot is simple as it involves some women coming home from Thanksgiving dinner at the mother of the two women, who is the grandmother of the young woman in the group. They start running out of gas and end up in a bad part of town and fall prey to a vicious street gang that runs the area. So that is the plot in a nutshell. I have always enjoyed this film when I first got the DVD many years ago, and even for its budget, it's still entertaining. I will say the acting from Currie Graham, who played the villain, was rather over-the-top, but I wonder if it was because he was having fun in the role or because it was his first role and it took him time to get better. He didn't do badly, though. He was just rather hammy. Anyway, I am glad that I held on to the DVD since getting it at the end of 2011 because not only is it out of print, but it is going for a lot online, unless someone buys DVD-R copy of it. This is a movie that I don't expect many people to know about, but if you liked "Judgment Night," I recommend it, but try to find a way to watch it. 41. The Flintstones (1994) 42. Glad I could see it on the big screen at least once. I remember going to see this in theaters back in 2016 for its 30th anniversary. It was worth it. If it's showing again this week, maybe I could go.

Maybe there's another distribution doing its own thing with it in the theaters, but Fathom only had it listed for March 6 and March 10, so I think you're out of luck.

It was shown on the 6th first. Usually, it's shown on Sunday first and then on Wednesday.
38. Enemy Territory - Watched on DVD-R. I was in the mood for this one recently. I remember watching this on YouTube a long time ago and then about a year and a half later, I bought a bootleg DVD-R of this film online, since no official DVD or Blu-ray for this exists. It was only released on VHS. It definitely has that 1980s feel and cheese factor as this is a B-grade action film. However, it does have its charm. The dynamic between Gary Frank and Ray Parker Jr. (yes, the same guy who did the "Ghostbusters" theme song) worked with Gary Frank as the cowardly everyman caught in a bad situation, while Ray Parker Jr. was the phone repairman (who is a veteran) as the protector. Plus, Tony Todd was in it as the gang leader and chewed up the scenery and was damn entertaining in it. This movie can also be found on YouTube, FYI.

#106 - Damsel (Netflix)

Far too much of this is just Millie Bobby Brown surrounded by CGI and not enough of Robin Wright as an evil queen. MBB does well with what she's given though, mostly carrying something that is rather subpar. [**½]

10. Damsel
A princess finds out her arranged marriage is part of a plan to feed her to a dragon. She decides not to go down without a fight. Millie Bobby Brown jumps back and forth between screaming in pain and frustration, and kicking the ass of anyone who gets in her way.

39. Final Jeopardy (1985 TV movie) - Watched this on YouTube. I recall watching this and doing a review on this in an old thread. Now that I have revisited it, I think I found myself enjoying this more than the last time. I also must note that I had finished the film a week after I started the first time I watched it.
Richard Thomas plays a businessman who wants to make a deal with some businesses in a big city that he is unfamiliar with. His wife goes shopping in that time. However, when night falls, everything changes. Not only does a gang come out and terrorize them, but things don't go their way, ranging from their car rental being locked up behind a gate. The police won't help them and won't cooperate with them. The entire city looks desolate at night. It was as if they were in a different world.
I have to give both leads credit for their performances, especially Richard Thomas. I could feel his pain in having to deal with stuff not going his way. I also liked the wide-angle shots of the town in some scenes. For a TV movie, it's actually not so bad.
Also, here is my rather old review from the 2019 thread:

40. Chains (1989) - Watched this on YouTube. I had planned to watch this as well. I remember watching it a few years ago and thinking it was entertaining in a B-movie sort of way. My opinion stands to a point, but it sort of trips in a way. I also conducted a little research on some of the actors, and I must say that it's clear that many people in this film didn't have much, if any, work after this film. In fact, as far as the main characters go, I saw that two actors had longer careers, whereas the others, this was their only acting credit. With the performances of some of the actors, I can't say I am surprised.
With all of that said, I can say that I have been on a kick lately involving films with a plot that has to do with people getting caught up in a dark urban setting and dealing with criminals. This is no different. It's like a mix of "The Warriors" and "Assault on Precinct 13" as the main characters fight back against the gang, and then in the final 20 minutes, it starts to become more like a slasher as this assassin comes in and more hell breaks loose.
I can enjoy this movie for the style with the suspense and action delivering to some degree. However, there are still plenty of issues with it. It's clear that the actors who had done more were really trying and succeeded. However, even in other films like this, whether it's "Judgment Night," "Enemy Territory," or those TV movies like "Final Jeopardy" or "Survive the Night," I would take them over this one. I could give it credit for some ambition, but there were issues with the execution.
By the way, no DVD exists of this. I could see that this film was ripped from a VHS when I saw some of the lines in some bits.

40. Damsel (2024)
I like Millie Bobby Brown in Stranger Things and the Enola Holmes movies, but this wasn't it. They basically stole a bit from Game of Thrones and just applied it to her character. The dragon was more interesting than her.

41. The Flintstones (1994) 42. Labyrinth (1986) 43. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985)Another YouTube movie. Did you know Jan Hooks was in this? I wish she was in more stuff, I miss her. Anyways, a fun, goofy little movie. But after being so used to seeing Pee-Wee in the fantasy world of Pee-Wee's Playhouse, it's just really weird to see him in this (mostly) real world interacting with (mostly) real people.
