#27) "Alley Cat", 1984 American action flick. Young woman fights street thugs with karate skills. 3 out of 10. #28) "Road Games", 1981 Australian thriller. Truck driver plays cat-and-mouse with the driver of a green van he suspects is a serial killer. Loved it, 8 out of 10. #1) "Shogun Assassin", 1980. 7 out of 10. #2) "Turkey Shoot" (aka. "Escape 2000" and "Blood Camp Thatcher"), 1982 Australian thriller. Near future, totalitarian government sends 'deviants' to 're-education camps'. Steve Railsback is a 'deviant' political dissident, Olivia Hussey is an innocent who was arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Camp Master Thatcher selects the two and a few more for a chance to earn their freedom: survive the day running through the wild around the camp while being hunted by Thatcher and some guests, including a government official. So, "The Most Dangerous Game" meets "!984". Pretty nasty, the guards are sadistic monsters and the action is bloody. Gruesome deaths all around. Others of note in the show are Roger Ward as a head guard (he was in the original "Mad Max", he was Captain Fifi), and ex-wrestler Steve Rackman as a circus freak who was brought as a 'weapon' by one of the hunters (he was Donk in the Crocodile Dundee movies). OK, a little excessively gruesome in places, but some survive. 7 out of 10.

76. The Muppet Movie (1979) 77. Teenagers from Outer Space (1959)78. Streets of Fire (1984) 79. Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993)You know what I hate? When people say this is the best Robin Hood movie. It feels like it's doing a disservice to "Prince of Thieves", which is a great movie in its own right. Anyways, latest YouTube find. A lot of the jokes, especially the pop culture references, haven't really aged well, but over-all it's a fun little movie.

2024 New Releases
#26 Sting
The plot of this movie is pretty easy to sum up. Girl finds little spider. Little spider becomes big spider. Bad things happen.
There's some family relationship stuff in the movie that acts as a through-line but let's face it, this is a good old fashioned creature feature that is all about seeing a spider be way bigger than we're comfortable with.
The movie doesn't take itself too seriously, with many of the supporting characters almost cartoonish in their portrayals but the young actress playing the lead was actually pretty solid.
The practical effects on the spider are really well done and the gore is well done when utilised. There were a good number of times where I was openly laughing at how ridiculous things were (there's a cat that gets it so unnecessarily hard!)
VERDICT: Not one for arachnophobes, but this is a solid film with a real B-movie feel to it. Not going to change the world but definitely worth a watch if it sounds up your alley.

94. King Kong (1933) - Watched this on DVD. Recently, when I watched "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," I told myself to watch some of the Kong movies, including the 1976 film and the 2005 film. Of course, I had to start with this.
This may be the oldest movie I have watched in quite some time. In regards to the story, because of how well-regarded it is, I am sure a lot of people already know the story. A film director, along with a woman and some of the crew go to an island inhabited by natives, as well as large animals/monsters. I think another thing that makes this film iconic is the bit with Kong's rampage through New York City, as well as climbing the Empire State Building. I was also impressed by the effects used in this film, especially for 1930s standards. The practical effects such as stop motion and also the use of additional frames for certain shots were good for that time.
With all of that said, it lives up to its reputation as a classic.
95. Son of Kong - Watched this on DVD. This was on the same DVD that I got from the library. I figured I might as well watch it. Anyway, I read that this was rushed into production after the success of "King Kong." All I can say is that this film is short and sweet. Yes, it's inferior to its predecessor, and in terms of story, it's okay. However, the visual effects are still impressive even for that time period.

90. In a Violent Nature (2024) Some absolutely brutal kills in this horror movie if you can deal with how slow it is. 91. M3GAN (2023) One of my favorite horror films from last year. Would you recommend seeing “In a Violent Nature” in theatres or should I wait? Big slasher fan, but I’ve heard mixed reviews. I think you should probably wait. It is very slow-paced, so it might be better to wait for streaming to fast forward through it.

Though there's some heart here and I laughed quite a few times, this was never quite as good as I wanted. Give me more Sam Rockwell. [***]

39. Godzilla Minus One Loved the callbacks to the original, how serious a story it was, had me caring about all the humans with G as, to me, he should be, just an engine of destruction to overcome. There's been debates on the effects, personally while amazing, there are a few places the cgi doesn't quiiiite work but it's nitpicking and amazing what they do on 1/10 the budget.

77. Teenagers from Outer Space (1959)78. Streets of Fire (1984) 79. Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) 80. The Wizard of Mars (1965)So in 1965 someone came up with the idea to re-imagine The Wizard of Oz as sci-fi survival horror movie. Honestly, it's a pretty decent idea, but they had neither the creativity nor budget to pull it off with. Here, the Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion expies are bland astronauts on an ill-fated mission to Mars. Like I said, there's a good idea here, but it's lost in a slow and plodding movie where absolutely nothing happens. I actually wouldn't mind seeing someone nowadays take a crack at re-visiting the core concept, but it just did not work as a low-budget 60's B-movie.

96. King Kong (1976) - Watched this on Blu-ray. I had read some stuff on how there were some differences between this and the 1933 version, whether it's in story and setting. It was interesting to see a then-modernized take on "King Kong." However, how does it compare to the 1933 original? Well, let's see.
I can see that one difference in story elements involves some kind of environmental theme at first with the antagonist looking to find petroleum on the island. I also could see who Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange represented in terms of characters, at least in terms of similarities to them. Not to mention that Bridges and Lange had good chemistry in this film, and of course, Lange was quite a stunner in her day.
Now I am going to talk about the film. I could see this as inferior to the 1933 film, but on its own, it's not so bad, but there were still some issues. It was a little slow in some areas. It took its time to get to some other moments in the story, but at the same time, I am not sure how it would have been without those sequences. On the plus side, the practical effects were great, even for 1970s standards. I liked how this time around, there was someone in a suit for Kong, as well as animatronics. I could understand the use of some backdrops for some bits and watching it on Blu-ray, those effects can be rather obvious when watching those bits.
For what it is, it's fine. I still think it was a slow, but it was still entertaining.
I must note that the Blu-ray I got from the library has the TV cut, which is even longer. I may give it a few days before I watch it. Until then, I may watch Peter Jackson's King Kong film, and maybe "King Kong vs. Godzilla," because why not?

I can 100% understand why this epic is considered a classic and I agree with that in a lot of ways, though it dragged too much at points to be among my favorites. [****]

Phoebe Cates kinda the GOAT, eh? I liked how there wasn't a straightforward plot here and it was just enjoying these characters just existing. [***½]

97. Bad Boys: Ride or Die - Saw this in theaters. A couple of weeks ago, I binged on the first three films in preparation for this. Although I liked the third film, I felt this was an improvement in terms of action in this one.
I must note that some people on social media talked about boycotting this film because of the slap. Personally, I didn't care about that. I just wanted to see this film. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence still had that tremendous chemistry and there were some funny moments in this film that didn't feel forced.
I also could see that the duo that did this really kept up with Michael Bay's style while adding in their own style to their direction. It was present in the third film and also in this one.
I will say that I predicted some story elements. I figured that some things were going to happen. In the end, it is still a fun thrill ride.
I do feel that some characters could have returned, though.

79. Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) 80. The Wizard of Mars (1965) 81. Hostage for a Day (1994)For those not familiar, this television movie was one of John Candy's last, and the only movie he ever directed. I haven't seen or really thought about it since it first aired thirty years ago, but after watching Wagons East! a few weeks ago I decided to look it up again. John Candy actually has a rather small role in it. The movie stars Cheers' George Wendt as a henpecked husband going through a mid-life crisis who comes up with a crazy scheme to fake his own kidnapping at the hands of two Russian terrorists in an attempt to get back his stolen life savings from his selfish and uncaring wife and crazy father-in-law and run away to Alaska. It's a little uneven, but a mostly fun and goofy little TV movie.

64-Ed-Fandango at home FKA Vudu
They wanted a comedy for the movie night. I remembered Ed with Matt Leblanc. Couldn't find my dvd. f***er aint streaming on much. So 4 bucks to rent on Fandango, took me a bit to find it cause I forgot it changed from Vudu.
Matt is Cooper a pitcher that is great until the game starts. New teammate is a chimp that is the best playerr ever.
Add in piles of fart and shit jokes. A chimp suit that sometimes looks amazing and sometimes looks horrible and you get a mid 90s comedy that is forgotten.
Ed gets 5.4 Frozen bananas out of 10

Pixar's best movie since Coco and their best non-Toy Story sequel. The way they handle the new emotions, especially anxiety, is something special. Throw in the other things Pixar is known for and this is a classic. [****½]
