42. A Quiet Place: Day One
What are you gonna do when you are in New York City when the noise sensitive aliens invade? You go and get pizza. It was a decent story. Just don’t try to figure out where the cat keeps disappearing to.

125. High Crimes - Watched this on Blu-ray. I looked through some more of the items I had from the library. I chose to watch this. I recall seeing TV spots for this back in 2002. I mostly remember this was hyped as a reunion of sorts with Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman, especially since they starred in "Kiss the Girls." However, this film wasn't an adaptation of a James Patterson novel. Although I did learn that this film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Joseph Finder.
With that said, I found there to be flaws in this film in regards to certain plot elements, especially surrounding the big case that the plot was centered on. But I have a feeling that things might be a little clearer on subsequent viewings of this film. However, I did think that Ashley Judd did a great job in her performance. Morgan Freeman never disappoints when he is on screen. There are some parts that did have me engaged in the plot, but then came the ending, where a twist happened, and I am unsure if there was any foreshadowing to that. Maybe if I want you to get in in the future, things can make more sense? It's possible.
Still, I found it to be an okay, if decent thriller, even though it was a little formulaic and predictable in some ways.

#357 - Kinds of Kindness (2024; Hulu)
*1st Viewing
Yorgos is a madman. I've given up on trying to understand his stuff and kind of just go along for the ride. I didn't care for the first story but the next two were really good. [***½]
#358 - The Scorpion King (2002; Blu-Ray)
*2nd Viewing
A bland action movie that would've been more fun if it didn't take itself too seriously. [**]

Once I found it and realized I could log what I watch and have it keep track with stats and stuff, I was hooked. Interesting,I use a spreadsheet tbf, and catalogue runtimes, provider, picture quality, date watched, month, whether or not I've seen it, physical or streaming, genre, rating and year of film but yours might be the way to go if it gives me all that. I use My Blu-ray app to collate my physical collection of 4k and Blu- Rays, DVDs are in the loft unfortunately.

204.THE INVITATION (2022) A woman uses a DNA website and connects with distant relatives, being invited to a wedding in another country. Once she gets there, she runs into a man who begins to seduce her...but may carry a secret.
A basic plot drug through two acts before getting to the point with a rather satisfying finale. I really did enjoy the end enough to justify the other parts.
205. ROBOT JOX (1989) An obvious influence for PACIFIC RIM, this post-apocalyptic world has territories battling for supplies and land dominance via GIANT ROBOT FIGHTS. Fighters are contracted for 10 battles and the main character has won his first nine, garnering him the attention of the ACE of the obvious communist metaphor country that vows to kill him in battle. Meanwhile, the society he lives in has raised test tube babies to be the next generation of battlers, essentially making him obsolete and mocked by them despite his accomplishments (Raised to only believe in logic, they get really testy when he brings up the concept of "Luck").
For a lower budget sci-fi movie, directed by Stuart Gordon, it shoves in an incredibly interesting amount of backstory to ponder on (if you want, of course).
The stop motion robot fights are pretty cool, too.
206. CELLAR DWELLER (1988) The first produced screenplay of writer Don Mancini (creator of the Chucky/Child's Play franchise), it's a unique monster movie where a comic creator uses some evil book and accidentally makes his monster real, dying in the process. Decades later, a fan of the comic artist moves in to the same building he died in, which has become an art school, and accidentally does the same daggone thing he did, which is just no good for anyone.
Cool concept with a dull presentation. The cold opening is about 10 minutes long and probably extended because they had Jeffrey Combs playing the artist. A fun curiosity.
207. THE FALL GUY (2024) The extended version on Peacock.
Really fun time with perhaps one of my favorite call back jokes in quite some time. Ryan Gosling is effortlessly cool and effortlessly uncool whenever he needs to be. Shame it didn't reach more people in theaters.
208. THE GUARDIAN (1990) WILLIAM FRIEDKIN'S KILLER TREE MOVIE! The movie that made him swear off horror after it got battered for not being "the next EXORCIST" from him.
An old druid pretends to be a young babysitter, gets in good with families, then steals their child and sacrifices it to her Tree God. What a concept...
It's an oddity. I enjoyed it.
209. READY OR NOT (2019) Samara Weaving is a daggone star and I'll always be a sucker for "Evil rich people being thwarted from evil rich things" style films.
I followed it up by looking up some old YouTube videos the directors (Radio Silence) made over a decade ago. "MOUNTAIN DEVIL PRANK FAILS HORRIBLY" and "ROOMMATE ALIEN PRANK GOES BAD" are fun little found footage-y vids. Only three minutes long.

107. The Hollywood Knights (1980) 108. Trancers (1984) 109. Back to the Planet of the Apes (1980)Latest YouTube movie. Man, it's been awhile, work has been so busy lately. For those not familiar, in 1974 CBS aired a Planet of the Apes TV series. It went one season of fourteen episodes. Two 20th century human astronauts wind up on 30th century Ape-controlled Earth where they befriend a chimp named Galen (played by Roddy McDowall), and the trio winds up on the run from a gorilla official named Urko. By 1980 ABC gained the rights to the series and decided to edit together a few of the episodes into a series of five TV movies. The first four showed up on YouTube this month. Can't find Farewell on the site. Sadly, what also isn't on the YouTube were the exclusive intro and outro bumpers that McDowall did, in character as Galen, for some of the original airings. As for the movie itself, it's ok I guess. It's kinda uneven, but you're combining two separate stories with only the basic plot of the series to tie them together, so that's to be expected. The ending to part two is a bit unsatisfying for the story set up in part one, but both episodes are enjoyable and they do do a good job of splicing them together so it's difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins. If nothing else, if you're a Planet of the Apes fan then it's a fun way to check out one of the lesser known parts of the franchise.

The full thing both films all the trailers and 3+ hours later I agree that Deathproof plays much better if watched after Planet Terror.

126. Beetlejuice - Watched this on Blu-ray. As part of my preparation of seeing the new film, I decided to watch this. I remember watching this a lot as a kid. When I would go to my grandma's house, someone would put on the VHS. Hell, I remember watching the cartoon version of "Beetlejuice" all the time as a child.
With that said, this film is still a classic, but now that I'm older, I think I can appreciate a lot of the visual effects that Tim Burton used for this film. I liked the use of miniatures and stop motion, as well as some of the backdrops used in some scenes. Plus, Michael Keaton is awesome as the titular character. You also can't go wrong with Danny Elfman's score for this film.
After all these years, this film still remains a favorite of mine.

109. Back to the Planet of the Apes (1980) 110. Forgotten City of the Planet of the Apes (1980)Latest YouTube movie and the next PotA TV movie. Again, a solid if uneven movie. The first part involves our heroes stumbling upon a village that engages in gladiator battles, the second has them finding the remains of Oakland and trying to see if they can get some technology to help themselves out. The two parts join together more awkwardly then the last movie, but it's an entertaining watch over-all.

127. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - Saw this in theaters. For years, I wasn't sure how a sequel to "Beetlejuice" would go down, especially after three decades. Plus, many legacy sequels, while some have their moments, some of them miss the mark. Thankfully, this film is a better example, but even there are some flaws in this film.
Michael Keaton still has it when playing the character. Winona Ryder did a good job as Lydia. I also thought Jenna Ortega did a good job in this film. I also thought Tim Burton still did a good job with his direction, particularly with the set pieces and the visual effects. Some scenes got me cracking up, too.
However, I felt that some story elements were a bit pointless that I wondered if there were different drafts to the script and were combined.
But other than that, I had a good time with this one.
