118-Resident Evil-DVD
Found at the Pawn still sealed the RE collection of the first 6 films. Never saw past part 3 and it was a buck.
This is a decent translation of the first game into a film. Gore FX are good.

#346 - Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (Disney+, 2007)
*1st Viewing
I liked the first more than I expected but this one was a swing and a miss that never felt it truly came together. [*½]
#347 - Chasing the Magic: The Nigel McGuinness Story (Peacock, 2019)
*2nd Viewing
One of the best I've ever had the privilege of seeing in the ring. A highly emotional story that makes me so happy he got to his moment in Wembley Stadium. [****½]

Ghostbusters Frozen Empire - Crap. Unlikeable and annoying characters, too slow to get going... I ended up reading with it playing in the background.

106. Masters of the Universe (1987) 107. The Hollywood Knights (1980) 108. Trancers (1984)Latest YouTube movie. Much like The Hollywood Knights, this 80's cult sci-fi favorite is another "curious, but not that curious" movie for me, but after seeing it's only an hour and sixteen minutes I figured it was worth a watch. For those not familiar, Tim Thomerson plays Jack Deth, a grizzled time-traveling police officer from the future sent back to the 1980's to stop some kind of, also time-traveling, psychic cult leader who turns people into zombie-monster type things. Deth is assisted by a local girl played by a young, pre- Mad About You Helen Hunt. The movie is basically a rough around the edges The Terminator-wannabe, with a DTV, and even almost a TV movie, feel to it. But it actually works due to its fast-paced, breezy story and surprisingly strong chemistry between Thomerson and Hunt. Fun watch, but I doubt I'm gonna be tracking down the sequels.

196. RUNAWAY (1984)After seeing Alien: Romulus, I was in the mood for more "Future but with 70s/80s Tech" and found it with this Michael Crichton directed film where there is a division of police that handle robot related crimes. Tom Selleck (Who I did refer to as Magnum Sci-Fi the entire runtime) is the best robot cop in the world, who can get the drop on a gun-toting giant Roomba when it malfunctions. Ironically, considering an Alien movie inspired me to see this, the villain (played by GENE SIMMONS) uses killer robots that look like face huggers and shoot acid at people (and also explode, but...come on. The moment they bring up acid, it's like...yeah.) I really liked this one. 197. THE FAMILY PLAN (2023)Because of a deal where if you subscribed to a streamer on Twitch, I got three free months of Apple Plus and figured the best way to 'celebrate' was to watch the family movie starring Mark Wahlberg where his son is a secret streamer who gets involved in an e-sports final (teaming with Valkyrae who actually streams on YouTube instead of Twitch...oh well). It's very generic with a few fun moments. 198. MILK & SERIAL (2024)A straight-to-YouTube Found Footage movie from an actual influencer is perhaps one of the better, more surprising one of these I've seen in a while. The plot gets to a predictable spot (as do most Found Footage movies) but it sets its twist up well and only loses the concept on one bad scene. A surprisingly decent watch. Also, it's around an hour long. 199. HELL HOLE (2024)The Adams Family (An actual family doing lower budget horror movies together) bring forth this odd, The Thing-like, horror film about a parasite that jumps from suitable host to suitable host. Perhaps because of the budget not allowing for much CGI and practical, you get a lot of discussion on the situation at hand, with some decent comedic moments and some blunt and to the point messaging. Decent for what it is. 200. ALIEN: RUBICON (2024)THAT'S RIGHT. I WENT TO THE THEATERS FOR ALIEN: ROMULUS AND I WENT TO HOOPLA DIGITAL FOR THE ASYLUM KNOCKBUSTER VERSION...sorry for yelling. This is essentially a 1950s sci-fi film where a giant orb appears, a bunch of people discuss how to stop it, the military tries a bunch of stuff that fails, and then the main character has ONE LAST IDEA that might just save the world... (Sidenote: this is essentially the same plot as their Twisters knock-off The Twisters where a giant storm appears, a bunch of people discuss how to stop it, the military tries a bunch of stuff that fails, and then the main character...anyway, yeah, the same actor stars in both these movies). Anyway, they manage to let some CGI aliens run out of the orb briefly to justify the absolute knock-off poster this thing has. Not really that good, but I was happy the people involved got paid. 201. IMMACULATE (2024)A slower movie than I expected that tries to go all out in the third act. The eventual "reveal" of what is going on shouldn't have made me laugh...but it made me laugh. Main Twist Spoiler: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}When they revealed they had the blood of Christ and were going to use it to clone him into a virgin nun's womb, it made me think of the Mosquitos in Jurassic Park and I wish they'd had a little cartoon explaining everyhing instead of the evil priest 202. SPACE TRUCKERS (1996)Dennis Hopper is a SPACE TRUCKER! A delightful sci-fi movie with a light heart and comic book plot (Oh, that thing you're shipping? World conquering robots of course. oops!) Hopper must have liked director Stuart Gordon because he's giving his all in this thing. 203. WITCH HUNT (1994)The second of my "Bizarre Dennis Hopper Sci-Fi" double feature. H. Phillip Lovecraft is a private detective who doesn't use magic in a world where it is out in the open, much to the distaste of an purity driven Senator looking to outlaw the practice just as a powerful Hollywood producer is killed with a spell. What a fun sentence to write. Hopper is good in this, too, playing the detective. Also, Julian Sands is playing an evil magic dude and bringing a lot of effort. Dude was something else in this. (Found this one on Youtube)

#352 - Horrible Bosses (2011, Hulu)
*3rd Viewing
I don't know why but Jason Bateman's slow, deadpan response about him drag racing in a Prius killed me. The simple, "I don't win a lot" ended me. [***]
#353 - Horrible Bosses 2 (2014, Hulu)

Not as fun as the first but still a solid enough sequel. [**½]

122. Taking Lives - Watched this on Blu-ray. After looking through my library items, I came across this. I decided to watch it, but I can see that maybe I could have done something else.
Let me just put it this way - I wanted to like this movie. I can enjoy a psychological thriller, even when some elements are a little formulaic, if a little predictable. Considering that this was loosely based on a book (keyword being "loosely"), I decided to try this out and maybe read the book sometime. Now the film had an interest premise with a killer murdering people and taking their identity (ergo, the title), and I enjoy a detective story, especially with the detective having his/her own methods in solving the case. Unfortunately, some of the execution could have been better. One of the problems this film had is that it felt too predictable and there were some things about this that just made me go, "Really?"
This isn't a knock on Angelina Jolie and Ethan Hawke, both of whom did fine. There were some redeeming qualities, but once things were revealed, it took a different shift in things in the characters. The film also felt dull in some scenes.
In the end, I was just not a fan. Maybe I'll try out the book to see how different it is because I had read some details and it doesn't seem like Angelina Jolie's FBI agent character is in it (I could be wrong, though).

2024 New Releases
#36 It Ends With Us
VERDICT: I went into this with fairly low expectations and was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong. With a lot more depth to it and dealing with some heavy topics this is far from the light fluffy romance it appears from the outset.
#37 Alien: Romulus
VERDICT: Borrowing from Alien and Aliens, Romulus doesn’t quite reach those lofty heights, but with two strong central performances and some well executed tension and action this proves to be the best film in the franchise for quite some time.

2024 New Releases
#38 Kneecap
A fictionalised origin story of the real life, Belfast based, Irish-speaking hip hop trio. Along the way, their rise is opposed by the English speaking police force and there are fun mini sub-plots intertwined which include a cross-sectarian love story and a paramilitary group with a very uncatchy acronym.
I’m not a massive fan of hip-hop and have long forgotten most of my Gaeilge from school, the tracks featured in the movie sound great, are full of energy and give the film a frenetic pace. Of course any scenes featuring Gaeilge are subtitled with these becoming stylised during any of the songs.
VERDICT: Fresh and funny with a great soundtrack and likable performances throughout, Kneecap is one of the most engaging and interesting Irish speaking films in recent memory.

123. 1992 (2024) - Saw this in theaters. Yes, that is the name of the film. I first heard of the film when I saw an IG post. What drew my attention was the logo of "Death Row Pictures" and that it also had Ray Liotta in it. Of course, this would mean that this film was shot more than two years ago. Also, with Tyrese Gibson being one of the leads in this film, I wondered how it would go down, being that he has a hit-or-miss track record, whether it's him in the "Fast and Furious" films or in other films, some of which were straight-to-video.
With all of that said, I have to say that this may be Tyrese's best performance since "Baby Boy." I don't think he's a bad actor, but a lot of the movies he is in, it really varies in his performances. Liotta, however, always delivered in his performances. I also thought Scott Eastwood did fine in this film. I did have some gripes, though. One being the soundtrack feeling a little more modern as opposed to being in the time period of the film.
Other than that, it's a decent film. It's short, too. Like an hour and a half.
By the way, I may go more into depth in a blog post that I plan to do on this film.

An absolute spectacle and I actually think I may have liked this more than the original. Tornadoes are among my biggest fears so that opening scene was an experience and I was hooked from start to finish. [****]

40. The Watchers
Four people are trapped in a cabin in the woods while some sort of evil creatures watch them. It was written and directed by M Night Shyamalan’s daughter so you can guess what kind of atmosphere it had. A little slow paced. Spooky more than scary. And the ending didn’t bother answering all the questions the movie raised.

124. Blankman - Watched this on Netflix. I had the urge to watch this recently. In fact, I think what led me to do it was when I re-watched Double Toasted's "Bad Movie Roast" on it. Granted, when the Double Toasted guys do one of those things, it's all in fun. I have seen videos on they roast a movie that I have enjoyed. This is one of those movies. In fact, I have memories of watching this on HBO as a child.
Make no mistake about this. This is a stupid movie. There are plenty of things about this that are nonsensical. However, it was clear that this movie was more like a spoof and love letter to the 1966 Batman series. With Damon Wayans having also written some of this movie, I wouldn't be surprised if it was his idea to incorporate some similarities to his Handi Man character from "In Living Color." Some scenes feel like they could have been for an "In Living Color" sketch, too.
However, I do see some bits that were kind of dumb, but that doesn't necessarily mean "bad," if you know what I mean. Damon Wayans and David Alan Grier worked well together in this film, especially with David Alan Grier being the straight man of the duo.
Eh, I still enjoyed this film. I don't think it's the nostalgia talking because I can see the problems in hindsight, but I still found some scenes funny, many of which I understand better than I did when I was a kid.

41. Dune: Part Two
It looked cool. I spent most of the movie explaining to my wife what was going on because she didn’t really remember the first movie and they threw a bunch of new characters in this one with little or no explanation. I thought Austin Butlerwas great as Feyd Rautha but absolutely hated Christopher Walken as the Emperor. Is it worth watching? Yes. Would I watch it again? Probably not.
