135. My Old Ass - Saw this in theaters. This film was on its last legs in my area. I was a bit interested in seeing this when I saw the poster art and the trailer. However, going in, I did not expect this to hit the feels the way this film did.
At first glance, I saw that this would be a film about a young person meeting their older self, but for the most part, it's a coming-of-age and also a romance story. With that said, the main actress did a good job in her role, as did Aubrey Plaza, who was not in the film that much. I also thought there were good scenic shots of the area it was shot in. It was also good to see some character development because it seemed like the film's focus was on the main character and her growth.
Of course, this is a comedy-drama. Aside from some dramatic scenes, there is still room for humor. I found myself chuckling at some scenes.

Joker 2: Didn’t think it deserved all the hate it’s gotten. I won’t ever watch it again, but didn’t dislike my time spent with it.
Beetlejuice 2: This was more for the GF. I’m not a huge Tim Burton fan… his art style has never appealed to me. But it had its moments. Another one I won’t see again.
Terrifier 3: The Fire was so cartoonishly over the top I couldn’t help but laugh. That said, there was a surprisingly competent horror flick beneath the gore gimmick. I liked it a lot.

Finally got around to starting these. This was a very good start that made great use of a small budget and helped popularize a now iconic horror figure. [***½]

I was... not expecting this, Elvis and black JFK fighting a mummy in an old folks home. It has it's silly moments but a lot of it is sad and poignant meditations on age. It was pretty good at that, the shclocky stuff was almost an interruption.

125. The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000)126. Hawk the Slayer (1980) 127. Neon City (1991) 128. Hellboy (2004)Latest YouTube movie. I've been wanting to re-watch this for years now, but for some reason it just has never been available on any streaming service at the same time I've had them. Actually I was originally going to watch Robotix: The Movie as a follow-up to the InHumanoids movie, but it was just so un-interesting that I gave up on it. Maybe I'll come back to it eventually, but it took me three day to get twenty minutes in, so who knows if it's worth it. Anyways, excellent movie that does a great job balancing the action, drama, comedy and eldritch horror. I really wish the various reboots would've focused more on trying to capture the dark whimsy feel of this movie as opposed to leaning so heavy into duplicating the source comics dreary and, at times, almost hopeless feeling. 129. Ernest Scared Stupid (1991)Next YouTube movie. So for the longest time I genuinely considered Ernest Goes to Camp as the only Ernest movie worth anything. Then, last year, for Christmas, I watched Ernest Saves Christmas for the first time in years and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. So when this showed up on YouTube for Halloween, I figured I'd give it a re-watch and see if it was also worth re-evaluation. And, eh, not really. It certainly has its moments ("how about a bumper sandwich, booger lips!"), but for the most part it lacks the heart that Camp and Christmas have and Ernest's shtick this time around is more obnoxious then charming.

136. Creepshow - Watched this on DVD. I got this from the library sometime ago. I thought it was time for me to watch it. As far as anthology movies go, especially ones of the horror genre, I haven't seen a lot of them. I know that this film is well regarded. I also saw that the stories in this film were adapted from Stephen King stories, and it was directed by George A. Romero.
Of course, like other anthology films that I have seen, there is a wraparound story that is the base point of the film that is shown before, in the middle (in some films), and after the stories are done. With that said, I can see that there was a dark comedy element found in these stories. I found myself laughing during some of the scenes, particularly in the Father's Day story, as well as the one with Stephen King playing that guy who has weeds growing around him. However, there were some that kind of freaked me out, particularly the story about the cockroaches. I also thought Leslie Nielsen was terrifyingly funny in his story. I also thought it was interesting to see a pre-Cheers Ted Danson in this film. For the record, yes, this film was given a wide release in November 1982 after "Cheers" premiered, but it was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May of that same year. So it was still before "Cheers."
137. Creepshow 2 - Watched this on DVD. I also had this one. I thought "why not?" I know that this was done by a different director and the wraparound plot was different this time. While the boy was named Billy like in its predecessor, I wonder if he was the same character. I will say that I thought it was interesting to see some animation being done for those sequences. Given that this was released in 1987, I can see that the animation was done in the hand-drawn style. It almost reminded me of Don Bluth's animation from that era.
Now let's talk about the stories. I would probably say that my least favorite of all of them was the first one about that Native American statue hunting down those guys who robbed that store in the desert. The other two were entertaining. I mean the one about the raft in the lake and the ending really says it all about how that plot could have been avoided. Then there was the one about the hitch-hiker. If I have to pick which was my favorite, I would say that one. Because I had watched episodes of that late-1990s cop action show, "Martial Law," I knew that I recognized the hitch-hiker from that show. I also noticed that the main character of that one was the main Bond girl in "Moonraker." I also thought the makeup for Tom Wright was done well to make him looked all banged up after being run over.
It may not have been as good as the first film, but it was still decent. Like I said, I wasn't that big on the first story, but I liked the other two. I did hear that a third film exists, as well as a TV series. I could check out the show, but I heard the third film was bad.

2024 New Releases
#44 Joker: Folie à Deux
Despite me originally thinking that the idea of this movie was a joke made up by a musician I follow, I came into this wanting to like the movie. I like musicals, I really enjoyed the first Joker movie and I love Joaquin Phoenix as an actor.
That this is a musical is a particular sore point for many but for me the biggest issue is that it's all rather dull. Much of the movie is spent on pre-trial prep and then when the trial itself comes along, little exciting happens there either. Then towards the end Arthur makes a decision that not only goes against his journey in the movie, but the overall story of both movies. The turn doesn’t feel natural and the only reason I can think it happened is ‘because the writer wrote this to happen’, which is one of the worst things you can think about a story.
VERDICT: Well acted and well designed, hampered by a tedious plodding plot, a lack of memorable moments or songs, and an undermining of the main character’s primary motivations, ultimately means Joker: Folie à Deux is a frustrating waste of potential.

2024 New Releases
#45 Salem's Lot
So much of this movie feels like it happens off screen. We get very little detail to flesh out characters, a relationship is literally established via a 'Two Weeks Later' transition and past traumas are mentioned but never explored. Everything is so rushed. We seem to go from, one person dead, to three people dead, to I guess the entire town is vampires. Some nice cinematography here and there, but overall there's little here that sticks in the mind after.
Shout out to Pilou Asbæk who plays the Renfield stand-in Mr. Straker. I loved every time he was on screen as he delivered his lines with all the hamminess and over-ominousness of a mysterious spooky shopkeeper from an episode of Goosebumps.
VERDICT: Clearly butchered in post production, paper-thin, poorly developed characters leave this version of Salem’s Lot feeling quite anaemic.

128. Hellboy (2004)129. Ernest Scared Stupid (1991) 130. Fire and Ice (1983)Latest YouTube movie. For those not familiar, this is an animated Ralph Bakshi sword and sorcery movie. I don't know why I keep watching all these S&S movies. Descriptions and reviews get me curious, but the only one I ever really enjoyed was Beastmaster 2. But this is much closer to what I would expect from a S&S movie then Hawk the Slayer was, with fantastic beasts, a barbarian setting, lots of mindless violence and, most importantly, nudity. I mean, you don't see any of the naughty bits, but the characters are about as nakies as they can be without getting to that point. It's a pretty generic "save the princess, stop the evil wizard" story. That would be fine if the characters were more dynamic, but they're mostly pretty one-note and arch-typical. The real draw is the impressive and obviously heavily rotoscoped animation. 131. The Waterboy (1998)And the next YouTube movie. One of Adam Sandler's more fun early movies. Not really sure what else to say.
