Oh geez. Haven't updated lately. Sorry for the big post.
223. WNUF HALLOWEEN SPECIAL (2013) Specialty found footage movie with a nice gimmick of being "recorded off of television" complete with fake 90s commercials. It follows a news reporter as he leads investigators into a supposedly haunted home and the shocking chaos that ensues.
It's a rather fun little thing with a surprising ending.
224. APARTMENT 7A (2024) I've never watched Rosemary's Baby, but I sure have seen it's modern day prequel.
It's all rather well handled among a pile of "women dealing with evil pregnancy" films this year.
225.VHS BEYOND (2024) The found footage series resurrected by Shudder returns with a sci-fi based collection this year.
Has an incredibly strong line-up despite Justin Long being that kid who copies his old homework and tries to present it as new.
226. HUSH (2016) A deaf and mute author living in a quiet cabin in the woods working on her latest novel instead finds herself the target of a killer who decides to play with her once he realizes her handicaps.
Rather nice intensity to her 'problem solving' throughout the film.
227. STEPFATHER 3 (1992) Always appreciate a movie that has the main villain go get face surgery to explain why he no longer looks like the guy from the first two films.
Goes in an odder direction, but rather amusing for the most part.
228. VHS2 (2013) Went back and rewatched the one considered the "best" in the series (I mean, one of the shorts even got made into a full movie).
It's indeed very watchable.
229. DEATH MACHINE (1994) Brad Dourif plays a mad genius in a weapons company who reveals his ultimate weapon upon being told he's being fired. Nothing says "quiet quitting" like building a side Death Machine during company hours.
It's got meta names for the characters (CEO John Carpenter and employee Sam Raimi for a couple) and is a rather fun "Ahh, run away!" movie.
230. SLEEPESTALKER (1995) A film that feels rather NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET inspired follows a serial killer named The Sandman (Cause he pours sand into the eyes of his victims) who gets a supernatural boost to go after the man who escaped his killing spree decades earlier.
I wouldn't have minded a sequel...
231. MR. CROCKET (2024) In the 90s, a supernatural VHS tape appears at people's homes, entrancing their children and convincing the young ones to call upon the host Mr. Crocket whenever their parents treat them poorly.
The guy playing Mr. Crocket is really daggone great in this.
232. WOLFS (2024) Brad Pitt and George Clooney being charismatic and chatting about tough guy things is my jam. I think I'd really enjoy theater.
Definitely an Apple Plus original. Expensive and barely known. I rather liked it, though.
233. DISQUIET (2023) Incredibly on the nose allegory movie that tries to play it self off as horror. Tries for some Silent Hill vibes but is too busy insisting on showing you every piece of information you need over and over to ever build an aura.
Rough go.
234. PORTAL (2019) A group of ghost hunters find a spell at their latest spooky house and, of course, try it out.
Basic but fun.

138. When a Stranger Calls (1979) - Watched this on DVD. I was torn between this and another film. I decided to go with this one, along with the 2006 version. I started with this one.
I read that the first "Scream" movie's opening scene was inspired by the opening scene to this one. Because I knew about the plot to the 2006 remake, I noticed that there was more of a story involving two of the characters while the person in the opening came back for the final act. With that said, I liked the approach that was made in that you wondered who the real hero and villain were in the movie because both characters showed various shades of gray here. Although I will note that certain scenes creeper me out a bit.

#413 - The Blair Witch Project (1999; Peacock)
*1st Viewing
I guess you had to be around for the hype for this to really work. Seeing it now, it's not really scary, pretty dull, and features characters so unlikable that you're rooting for them to die. [**]
#414 - Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024; Netflix)
*1st Viewing
This is weirdly one of the most consistent movie franchises ever. Each installment is a fun action comedy and nothing more. [***]

139. When a Stranger Calls (2006) - Watched this on DVD. Okay, I didn't mind this version. I am not saying it was great, but I didn't think it was as terrible as some people made it out to be. I will say that there are signs that this is a movie from the mid-2000s, whether it's the flip-phones, the still-prevalent use of landline phones, and also the scenes at the school and bonfire.
Camilla Belle could have done better in her role, but I don't think she was the weakest link in this film. There were some scenes where she was convincing in her role. I did like the dark lighting in some scenes to go with the feel of this film. However, I noticed some plot holes, especially with how the calls were coming from inside the house. I also thought it was interesting to expand on the first 20 minutes of the 1979 original.
I didn't love the film. I could say that I enjoyed it okay. It was not a bad way to spend less than an hour and a half.

2024 New Releases
#46 Terrifier 3
I love horror, I love Christmas and Terrifier 2 was a real surprise at how enjoyable it was. I had an absolute blast with Terrifier 3! It’s ridiculous, with its over-the top gore having you squirming in your seat and then laughing as you process what’s happening on screen.
Fun fact, while this has an 18 rating in Ireland, for the first time ever in nearly 3 decades of going to the cinema did I see staff actually asking for ID and turning teenagers away to get refunds when they couldn’t produce any.
VERDICT: A much more enjoyable crazy clown movie than Joker: Folie à Deux, this is sure to soon be a new Christmas cult classic among horror fans. A bloodily disgusting festive fun time but it’s a type of fun that is NOT going to be for everybody!

128. Hellboy (2004)129. Ernest Scared Stupid (1991) 130. Fire and Ice (1983)131. The Waterboy (1998) 132. The Great Outdoors (1988)Latest YouTube movie. Akroyd and Candy do their best to elevate things, and it certainly has its charms, but in the end this doesn't really rise above middling and forgettable.

58. 1
A documentary on F1, very much a fluff piece, it was made in 2012 and has a big focus on the improvements in safety. Most of the stories I knew, a few extra tidbits what were nice. Unfortunately there's an ending caption about there having been no deaths since 1994, but there was one a couple of years after it was released so that ends it on a bit of a sour note.

140. Identity (2003) - Watched this on DVD. I think I might remember seeing TV spots of this, but I can't say for certain. I do, however, recall seeing that Mill Creek Entertainment put out a Blu-ray bundle with "Vacancy." I was curious about this movie, so I requested it from the library. I finally watched it, and I have to say that I was a little blown away by some things.
Sure, the plot may seem simple with the whole "10 people die one at a time" concept, but there was more that I was not expecting. I am not going to say what it is, but it sure made things made more interesting and things will make more sense in subsequent viewings (I think I might like this enough to want to buy it down the road). I could say James Mangold had quite in his direction for this. As for the actors, I can't knock any of the performances, especially John Cusack's. The rest of them did fine, but only a few them had more to do than others. Plus, the setting in a hotel in the middle of nowhere, the dark lighting in some scenes, and the rainy setting really gave it a dark and sinister feel. However, there is more than meets the eye when watching this.
I will note that I learned that there is an extended cut, but I checked out Movie Censorship and put on that version. There are only minor changes, like an additional scene and some other things in the ending. But you could watch either version and it could make sense.

It's one I save until i know I can watch it with no distractions. Which is rare. 133-Ernest Scared Stupid-youtube Saw mention this was on YT. Needed a movie for this past morning. I own this on DVD and Blu ray and still ended up watching the 480 stream on YT. 9.5 Die costumes out of 10 134-MaXXXine-Blu Ray Loved X. Thought Pearl was interesting but nothing amazing. This was the best of the 3. Glad to see a film set in the 80s that isn't some 30 year old's idea of the 80s was. This feels like it was made by someone that was around back then. 9.7 old issues of Fango in the porn shop out of 10

Not what I was expecting but in a good way. There are some really unnerving things here, with Kendrick's comedic delivery standing out because of it. I really can't wait to see what's next for Kendrick as a director. [****]

130. Fire and Ice (1983)131. The Waterboy (1998) 132. The Great Outdoors (1988) 133. Double Dragon (1994)Latest YouTube movie. Usually I don't watch YouTube movies on the weekend, but I started this at work yesterday and figured I'd finish it off today. This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. Such a weird and disparate collection of genres run through the most 90's filter imaginable with a story that just barely holds together, but it's so delightfully cheesy that I can't help but enjoy this stupid movie.

Yeah, this missed the mark. I liked the first but this one is a retread, doesn't do enough interesting with the concept, and has a hilariously bad final 10-15 minutes. [**]

132. The Great Outdoors (1988) 133. Double Dragon (1994) 134. Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding (2003)So confession time, the only full episode of Baywatch I've ever seen is the one that had Giant Gonzalez in it. Any knowledge I have of the show comes from my watching of Allison Pregler's Baywatching series on YouTube, and I quite enjoy the series. So when I saw this on YouTube, I figured it would be a good way to get my mind off my latest bout of existential dread. For those not familiar, Mitch (who was apparently supposed to be dead?) announces he's marrying a Stephanie doppelganger named Allison, and his various friends from his many years of lifeguarding meet together in Hawaii for the wedding. But it turns out that "Allison" is actually a con artist in the employ of Shang Tsung who's seeking revenge against Mitch for some offense he committed against him in the past. Adventure, comedy, romance and action follow. Like I said, I've never really seen the show so I was lost on a lot of the sub-plots and character issues. I also had no clue who some of the characters were. I assume they're from the later seasons that Baywatching hasn't gotten up to yet. Was a skinny, young Jason Momoa actually on Baywatch at some point? But, over-all, it's a silly, cheesy little movie that features the toned bodies and slow-motion bouncing boobs you'd expect from a Baywatch project, so if you're a fan of the show I can't see you not liking this.

I can tell you some stuff. Yes, Jason Momoa was on "Baywatch" in the later seasons, like late-1990s to the very end in 2001 when it was "Baywatch Hawaii." As for Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, he appeared in an earlier episode of "Baywatch," like sometime in the early-1990s.

This does a great job with the mystery of it all and there are some fantastically directed scary scenes. It could do with a tighter story but Schafer and Stevens are outstanding. [****]

That's 2019 World Series Champion Trea Turner, the star of this solid yet unspectacular documentary. [***]
#420 - Incredibles 2 (2018; Disney+)

Third time watching (first with my mom) and it remains a 7/10 movie. Very good but never quite sniffs greatness. [***½]

141. The Last House on the Left (1972) - Watched this on DVD. This, along with the 2009 version, were overdue but I made a point to watch them before I returned them. Having read about the plot, I felt a little uneasy about watching it, but I thought that maybe I could get through it, despite the depiction of a very extreme type of assault involved. I know it's a very heavy subject, but I managed to get through this film in spite of it.
I also found that this was Wes Craven's directorial debut. I could see that he had a style with this, even if it was the first film he directed. I also that 2/3 of the film was focused on the main subject leading the final act, but even that part was less disturbing than the first 2/3 of it.
I will give credit where its due, but I will note that as much as I wanted to like this movie, I wasn't exactly the biggest fan of it. Granted, I respect this movie than like it, but even I can't see myself revisiting it. Maybe down the road, but I am not sure about it. It's a rather disturbing film for the majority of it. While the climax was satisfying, I almost wonder if the parents were as twisted as the villains. Yes, I understand the motives, but still.
142. The Last House on the Left (2009) - Watched this on DVD. Before I get into this movie, I will say that I liked this better than the original. Yes, I really mean that, because it seems that the general consensus believes that a remake will ruin the original or that "most remakes suck." Now I will say that this came out in the late-2000s when there were more horror remakes coming out (Yes, the "Nightmare" remake was 2010, but it was close enough), even though I wonder if the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Dawn of the Dead" remakes started the trend despite being released earlier, but I digress.
With all that being said, while this film was disturbing regarding the biggest plot point, it was a lot more satisfying to watch compared to the original. The parents who get revenge did things more in self-defense and you felt the suspense in some scenes. Plus, the dark lighting gave it a suspenseful feel. I also found myself hating the villains here more than in the original (and I hated those versions, too). I also felt for the girl and her friend, so I can say that this film did some other things right in this version.
Now that I think about it. I wonder if it's possible if I would watch this in the future given the extreme subject matter. I suppose I could, at least in comparison to the original. It's still disturbing. Maybe I could probably skip that scene and go for everything else, because like I said before, I did enjoy this version more than the original.

133. Double Dragon (1994) 134. Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding (2003) 135. Good Burger (1997)Latest YouTube movie. The second greatest movie that Abe Vigoda has ever been apart of. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is still first.

A great case of building tension and making the viewer feel uneasy, there are some great, out there scenes. I really liked this. [****]
