Ain't watched nothin' since July... #6) "Surviving The Game", 1994 American action movie. Modern version of "The Most Dangerous Game", starring Ice-T as the hunted. *snip*Fun, though. 7 out of 10. #7) "Rock & Rule", 1983 Canadian animated movie. Rock superstar kidnaps female singer to help summon a demon, her old band tries to rescue her. *snip*Always loved this movie. 9 out of 10. #8) "Biggles: Adventure In Time", 1986 British adventure film. American Jim Ferguson finds himself skipping back and forth through time, coming to the assistance to legendary World War 1 hero Biggles fight against the German army and their new super-weapon. This movie is a mess. The basic parts of action and adventure with Biggles and his crew in WW1 are fine enough, but they hammered into the script this stupid concept of a time-travelling American trying to help, ONLY because the movie "Back To The Future" was a hit. It just didn't make sense. There's no real explanation WHY it's happening. There's no real explanation HOW it's happening. And there didn't seem to be any consistency as to WHEN it happens. It takes away from what could have been a decent little adventure. And there's a remarkably stupid character in the background who is just there for stupid comedy. It's a shame that this is the last film credit for Peter Cushing (who did well, given that he was given nothing to do). The guy who was Biggles was good (Neil Dickson), the guy who was the American was a block of wood (Alex Hyde-White). The producers should have not released this, it's a mess. 3 out of 10.

143. The Crazies (1973) - Watched this on Blu-ray. Once again, I had another double-feature with the original film and the remake. Of course, I watched the original first, and quite frankly, all I could say is that it definitely feels like George A. Romero's style with his direction. Granted, I know that "Dawn of the Dead" came later, but it has that vibe. It definitely had a low budget, but there was heavy emphasis on what political figures and the military should do about the problem while cutting back to the carnage happening. It was fine, but it was kind of slow in some areas.
144. The Crazies (2010) - Watched this on Blu-ray. It must be said: I liked this better than the original. This film is one of those cases where the remake improved on the original, at least in my opinion. I felt that there was more focus on the survival aspect and how the virus affected some people. I must note that it kind of worked in the original on how you couldn't tell who was infected with the virus, but here, you could tell. It almost felt like a zombie movie, or at least something similar to "28 Days Later" with people being infected with a virus but still having a semblance humanity in them.
I also felt the tension when dealing with what Timothy Olyphant's character and Radha Mitchell's character had to go through. There was a lot of suspense that worked in some scenes. Some bits that felt a little emotional depending on the circumstances.
I didn't mind the original, but I thought this was better in different ways.

#423 - Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015; Disney+)
*7th Viewing
Obviously the worst of the Avengers movies yet still has a lot of good going for it. [***½]
#424 - Insidious (2010; Peacock)
*2nd Viewing
It kind of goes a bit off the rails at points but there are some fantastic bits of horror filmmaking here. [***½]
#425 - The Money Game (2024; Prime)
*1st Viewing
A really good look at the world of NIL featuring some notable names like Livvy Dunne, Angel Reese, and Jayden Daniels. [***½]

#47 Smile 2
I didn't care much for the original Smile. I thought it was a great concept but it fell flat. It felt like a great short film stretched out to much to a feature. But a lot of times with a sequel they iron out the kinks from the first one, so I decided to give Smile 2 a shot.
I liked the main character, going with a pop superstar was an interesting angle and I thought Naomi Scott did a really good job in the role. But after that there was little else I enjoyed. The movie really only has two tricks, lingering shots of creepy smiles and bare bones Day 1 Horror jumpscares.
They go to the well on both of these a lot and its tapped dry fairly early on, so the movie felt a lot longer than it was for me from being bored. That said, the cinema was packed and there were plenty high-pitched screams from teenagers. So there's definitely a market for these movies, but I guess I'm just not it. If there's a Smile 3 down the line, I guess I'll give that one a miss.
VERDICT: Despite a likable lead and a much more interesting protagonist, the movie falls into old habits with cheap scares and doing little else to make you smile.

134. Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding (2003) 135. Good Burger (1997) 136. Saban's Power Rangers (2017)Latest YouTube movie. So when Amazing Spider-Man 2 came out, a common criticism was that it was a pretty good romcom masquerading as a middling superhero movie. That's kinda how I see this movie. It's actually a pretty fun teenager coming-of-age story. The problem is that only makes the more fantastic, more Power Rangery stuff like Zords and morphing look even sillier in contrast. It's like if The Breakfast Club ended with all the characters gaining superpowers and going off to fight Thanos. That said, it's still a mostly enjoyable two hour time waster.

145. My Hero Academia: You're Next - Saw this in theaters. I was torn between this and "Transformers One." However, being that this would be out of theaters (at least in my area) after today and that the Transformers movie would still be shown, I went with this one.
I am no expert on "My Hero Academia," but I am genuinely interested in checking out more of this. I have seen the other three films, and I also want to watch them again. This film was quite an experience, too. Also, another thing I must add is that each of the films have their own standalone stories. It's possible they may be tied to some episode arcs, but I am not sure. All that matters is that I got some enjoyment out of this, and I certainly did.
There is no doubt that this film has some amazing visuals from the 2D animation, while there was some 3D animation in some sequences, and that includes some CGI in some small doses.
There were also some fun action scenes that were well put together. The story got more interesting as the film progressed. Of course, because I watched it with the English dubbing, one can argue that the dubbing is a little cheesy. I personally didn't mind the dub, but I wonder if the Japanese voice-acting is a better experience. Though I may have to read the subtitles.
It's time for me to check out the series.

#426 - Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013; Peacock)

This one is solid but the problem is that it doubles down on the worst part of the first film. [***]
#427 - Freaks of Nature (2015; Peacock)
*1st Viewing
This is such a dumb film but I like the cast a fair bit, I always appreciate Vanessa Hudgens in anything, and it's goofy fun. [***]

Never been a big horror movie fan, but I've watched a few this month to get in the Halloween spirit.
Watched The Shining for the first time last night. It's by far the best horror movie I've ever seen (I've seen 10.) Jack Nicholson does a great job and the story is excellent.
I don't quite understand the final shot of the movie.

#48 The Wild Robot
I've been doing a 31-For-31 Horror Challenge in the run up to Halloween so this was a pleasant palette cleanser!
I loved this movie. Plenty happens but (for the most part) it’s not ‘action packed’, it’s got lots of funny parts but it’s not side-splittingly hilarious and there are fun characters but it’s not ‘zany’. But where this movie excels though is that it is absolutely brimming with heart. It looks amazing with the characters having a painterly effect which works so well on the animal's fur and the forest environment is very Miyazaki.
While this might be a low-key movie, I feel the ultimate testament to the quality and craft behind it is that in a screen filled with young children, at no point did the movie lose them. And for anyone with young kids, you know how hard that can be!
VERDICT: Visually beautiful and chock full of heart, a simple story wonderfully told, this is one of the best mainstream animated features I’ve seen in quite some time. I’d recommend everyone check out.

It's by far the best horror movie I've ever seen (I've seen 10.) Jack Nicholson does a great job and the story is excellent. I don't quite understand the final shot of the movie. It's kinda open to interpretation. It could imply that the hotel has absorbed the soul of Jack to become part of itself. Another theory is that Jack is a reincarnation of the old caretaker and so was always doomed to return. It's ambiguous so you can read into it however you like.

146. Transformers One - Saw this in theaters. Lately, I have been on somewhat of a Transformers kick. I started playing "Transformers: Devastation" and have been looking into watching some of the series, whether it's the G1, Animated, or Prime. Hell, in some ways, I want to revisit the Michael Bay films, even though I wasn't a huge fan of them (I didn't mind 1 and 3, and I liked "Bumblebee").
I am no expert on Transformers. I may have an interest in it at the moment, but I wouldn't go that far as to say that I am a huge fan. I could watch the cartoons, read the comics, etc. But I don't know all about the lore and such. However, I can say that I enjoyed this movie a lot. The animation and the visuals were stunning. I thought Chris Hemsworth did a good job as Optimus Prime that I almost thought it was Peter Cullen doing the voice. It also had a decent, if good story to go with it, like how Optimus and Megatron were friends at first and then would later become rivals. Because it was animated, this film took place on Cybertron. So there were no humans in this film.
I also must add that I was the only person in the theater when I saw it. It was in the middle of the day, in case you're wondering.
Could this be the best Transformers movie in a long time? I would think so. I have the itch to revisit the 1986 film suddenly.
147. The Transformers: The Movie (1986) - Watched this on YouTube. I recall watching this movie more than a decade ago. I got this from the library when I kind of went through a Transformers kick in early-to-mid 2013. Because it had been a long time since I last watched it, only a few scenes I remembered, and I usually am good at remembering things. Maybe I wasn't that heavily invested in it at the time? I am not sure.
All I can say is that I remembered Unicron and how massive that character was, as well as the soundtrack with the glam rock/hair metal, along with Weird Al, being played in some scenes. Now that I have seen it again, I can say that it's a fun animated movie. Some of the hand-drawn animations hold up. I also wondered how a lot of names were hired to do voice work, at least at that time. It's also sad to hear that Orson Welles recorded all of his dialogue for Unicron just days before he passed away.
I will note that a well-known scene was sad, but because I wasn't that attached to the Transformers IP, I wasn't that affected by it. Maybe if I was at the right age to see this when it came out (FYI, I was born the year it was released), I probably would have been affected. But some of the action scenes were fine and did their job.
I can say it's fun animated movie, but it's definitely from its time when it was released. It has that 1980s air about it.

135-Little Monsters-Vestron Blu ray
Was one I never saw until the HUB was airing it every weekend. Decent kids film. Fred Savage and his lil brother bBen hve just moved into a new home. The monster undder the bed takes a liking to Fred and lets Fred travel to the realm of monsters.
Bit more toilet humor than I expected. Never thought I would see monster Howie Mandell pissing into some kids apple juice.
6.7 Fred Savage watching Public Access Boobs out of 10
136-Trick or Treat-Local Now Streaming
This copy looks good. Nice Widescreen print, good sound.
Skippy from Family Ties is Ragman. The high school metal head that everyone picks on. His favorite singer dies. And Ragman is given an unreleased record by radio DJ Gene simmons.
Freddy Kruger inspired mid 80s horror. That has been not easy to find for 30 years so built up a cult following.
Worth checking out and free on the Local Now app.
7.4 Alternative Tenticles t shirts out of 10.

50. Trap
A man takes his daughter to a concert and finds out the police are using it to trap a serial killer. A great concept and Josh Hartnett makes a creepy and charming villain. That whole center section where Shyamalan basically went “Look how talented my daughter is! She can sing and she can act too!” was kind of annoying. Once she left the story the whole thing picked back up again.

#429 - Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015; Max)
*1st Viewing
There are some well-crafted scares in this one and some strong performances but I do think it goes to the jump scare well too often and feels redundant after a while. [***]
#430 - 47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019; Netflix)
*1st Viewing
The general setup here is good and harrowing as a concept but the characters feel super thin and the special effects are pretty atrocious. [**]

When I saw The Shining for the first time, I didn’t understand it either. I thought it was supposed to be a surprise ending that Jack had been dead the whole time like Bruce Willis’s character in The Sixth Sense. Of course, that wouldn’t make sense unless everyone else in the movie was dead too. It finally made sense when I got the DVD and saw the final chapter: The Overlook Claims Jack. Aaah, so he’s been absorbed into the hotel’s history.

I guess what you said makes sense.

#432 - Venom: The Last Dance (2024; Theater)

The best parts of this are Eddie and Venom's bickering and relationship but everything else is pretty bad. It's not even as fun as it should be with useless side characters, lame CGI antagonists, and so many other things we get in the worst superhero movies. [**]

138-In A Violent Nature-Shudder/DVD
The fairly recently made Canadian slasher that is worth seeing. Imagine a slasher where the camera for 90% just follows the killer.
Gory kills+a good and unique premise made this one of the best slashers from the past 5 years.
