I have hope it looks so good and the actors they picked were good and match the tone of the original series. Regardless of the background stuff (the controversy of Sokka's actor or the OG creators hoping out.) This looks really good.

If you absolutely have to do a live action adaptation of ATLA this look as about as good as it gets.
Hard to get a read on the acting/writing from the trailer. That makes or breaks a thing far more than the visuals for me.
They pronounced Aang correctly, so that very low bar has been passed at least.
But I'm extremely pessimistic with the creators leaving the project. This looks so much like a straight up remake of the show that I wonder what the creative differences were. Or maybe that was the problem, just re-treading the same thing?

Apparently the guy who voiced the 'my cabbages' guy is playing him in the show. That alone buys them some good will. Honestly, things look good so far, I am cautiously optimistic. Many smaller characters do seem to have looks faithful to the show, so that is a good start.

With the OG creators hopping off feels like a huge red flag but we will see.
Visually it looks fantastic.

I don’t know if it’s going to capture the heights of the animated original, but that Shyamalan version isn’t exactly the highest bar possible for them to clear. A trailer that doesn’t cause facepalming is already a small victory for the producers.

My genuine hope is that this is an adequate to good translation of the original show. One that gets more eyes on the original show. Realistically, the original series features some of the best character development in all of television live or animated. I doubt the live action will be able to match that. But, I don't need it to match that for this to be a success in my book.

Know she's popular but kind of surprised they included June in there. Pretty wildly inconsequential character even with her crowbarred in return. ... If nothing else I'm guessing / hoping they're going to cut the part where Iroh basically sexually harasses her.

Utkarsh Ambudkar is in it...I may be tempted as such...

Something I'm getting from the previews and things the showrunners have said is that this version just feels way too grim? I don't mind cutting down on some of the humor, since a lot of it particularly pre-Toph isn't really super funny anyway, but kind of feeling like they've sanded off a lot of the stuff that made the characters really stand out or feel distinct from each other.

I'm not the biggest fan of the first series, to be honest I'm a bigger Korra fan, but even I'm like "where's the enthusiastic "yip yip!" from Aang?" whenever I see a preview. Or anything that held some bit of fun in the show. I'm good with having a bit more of a serious tone but even the One Piece live action knew they needed the more bizarre bits to flesh the world out.

Early reviews are pretty decidedly mixed, some loving it and some hating it.
I actually think the most worrying one I've seen is a positive one from IGN that says this -
If anything kind of feels like turning the genocide of the Air Nomads into an onscreen thing that's apparently gone into detail on actually just serves to make it less tragic and less about Aang. And also really just a major case of wasting time when you only have eight episodes to work with.

Early reviews saying its better then the M Night movie but not as good as the original animated series... OK that's a pretty wide margin… they might want to narrow it down a bit

Hasn't been a good sign that they deemed Sokka's sexism, which was intricate to his character growth and only in like three episodes until he realized "Yeah that was dumb" too risky and "dated" to show in this series, but they really wanna show the full on genocide of the Air Nomads. Another one of the producers said they wanted to make it "Like Game of Thrones". Stuff like this really spelling out to me why Bryke left the show
