Pre request and because it was f***ing awesome, match and storyline wise:
I didn't think Hangman could work as a heel, but it really looks like he can. Swerve is AEW's Cody right now, crowd just wants him and every part of him, even superface dancing power manager Nana was just splendid
All of this is working, and Joe looming over it all makes it even better. Best world title feud in a minute imo.

Hangman shouting “he didn’t beat me!” repeatedly as the triple threat was made was a great touch.

Only in AEW can the super babyface be somebody that commits a home invasion, but hey. Better not to fight it.

But I do agree - I think it's a stupid story telling trope. If someone breaks into your home you're not gonna have a wrestling match with them, you're either going to put a bullet in them or send them to prison.

I enjoyed it because it wasn’t really a double turn in the traditional sense. Swerve is not a babyface, and Hangman is not a heel. They’re both just unhinged sociopaths who hate each others’ guts and want to prevent the other from winning the championship as much as they want to win it themselves.
AEW is good at the shades of gray stuff. I enjoy it, it makes it all feel more organic. There doesn’t always need to be a “good guy” or a “bad guy” in a simulated combat sport.

I can’t blame AEW for doing this how they’ve done it, the crowd basically forced AEW to make a heel turn for Hangman because of how much people are begging for Swerve. I doubt this has been the intention the whole time, I really do.

Swerve broke Hangman mentally. He now hates Swerve more than he cares about winning the title. Hangman turned heel because Swerve broke him.

Thanks for seeing the request amigo =)
Like I've said all night perfect storytelling and a way to do the double turn without jumping through hoops.
Swerve is an admitted sick man, he went over the top with Hangman, but as he said (to him) it wasn't personal it was all about getting his attention and getting to the top. He went to hell with Hangman twice and as far as he was concerned they were over he's the better man.
But to Hangman? It was personal, Swerve went to far and despite Hangman losing twice he wasn't willing to let it go, and even felt that because Mogal Embassy interviewed in the previous matches, Hangman convinced himself that Swerve couldn't beat him 1-on-1. Swerve gave Hangman one last match because he knew the only way to get to his goal (the AEW championship) he had to get rid of Hangman
The beauty of the draw? Swerve and Hangman both know Swerve was the better man tonight. No Nana interference, no Mogal Embassy. The draw motivated Swerve and he wanted to get rid of any doubt.... but Hangman? It broke him. He knows Swerve had him beat, and in his mind it was just as good as a victory to say that Swerve didn't beat him. So now you have a motivated Swerve who now has his goal right in front of him, and a Hangman slowly losing his mind because he wants to keep Swerve from that belt.
Just... really good storytelling without jumping through hoops

I liked it how played into exactly what HangMan said...about he will always be there to stop Swerve from achieving his goal.
The match result really did not matter to him...untill it was made into a triple threat but even that keeps HangMans plan in play that he is constantly blocking Swerve.

I think it's a huge bummer tbh. Hangman's that heart and soul of AEW babyface and seeing him turning heel because effectively the cool villain is mega over just...doesn't feel right. A "Joker is so evil that he turns Batman insane" type storyline feels odd in a territory where good and evil are pretty well defined most of the time and the bad guys usually get what's coming to them. They do have a fair amount of shades of gray stuff which I guess this plays into but...eh.
Obviously they shouldn't always just tell the same kinds of stories and Swerve is mega deluxe over rn so you might as well turn him face, but it feels like they're doing it at the expense of Hangman when they don't have to.
Now watch me in a few months geeking out when Big Money Corporate Hangman is the most entertaining heel on the roster. But for right now it just makes me sad in a way AEW usually doesn't.

Hangman letting his hatred for Swerve corrupt him makes so much sense character-wise.

I think he's more going heel because he thought he'd put Swerve down and... he didn't I think it's kind of driving him insane that in the big deathmatch blood feud he didn't do what he said he'd do and now Swerve is so close to accomplishing the dream Hangman said he was going to put into the ground He was justified to start but now he's becoming the very thing he accused Swerve of being, a vindictive asshole.

I would agree except that Hangman has never really been portrayed as classic white meat babyface. He’s always been an angsty millennial cowboy who is constantly eaten up by anxiety and self-doubt. Even within the context of the storyline, I think it makes sense that he’d lash out like he has when he hasn’t been able to prove to himself that he can beat Swerve and, on top of everything, the fans are randomly cheering the evil crime boss who broke into his house and accosted his infant.

I do think they pivoted, but (and I mentioned this in my post) it feels like in the build towards this match they really pushed the idea that Hangman didn't think Swerve could beat him without help, and Swerve wanted to leave no doubt that he was better. How the match went? Hangman was getting frustrated cause there were moments in the past Nana would clearly help Swerve but... it didn't happen. And with how the match ended? They both knew that Hangman was the better man. It broke Hangman's mind and it motivated Swerve. It's an interesting dynamic because Swerve (in his own words) had figured that with the Texas Deathmatch the score with Hangman was settled. He was the better man and he was moving on. But to Hangman? Swerve went too far and doesn't deserve to make his dream come true. Ironically it is probably going to lead to a promo where Hangman points all this out and asks why the crowd turned on him, but I do love how it isn't sudden.

I'm pretty, "Ehhhhhh..." on it myself, out of a mix of liking Hangman in the pure good guy role and not really at all understanding what Swerve's appeal is. Recognize he's super over but he just kind of seems like the portrait of a 6/10 to me.
