That Channel One thing seems like a total Trojan Horse to just force kids to watch commercials in a situation where they're stuck in school unable to turn the TV off or change channels. What a bunch of garbage. I can totally see why parents were unhappy.
At least the Cable In The Classroom programing was (mostly) actually educational.

I remember Channel One, from fifth thru seventh grade. And yeah, I never got the point of showing ads during it, but it makes sense as a way to sell your shit to a captive audience. I just don't get why schools approved having TV with ads in the first place.
I actually feel like I got more out of when my teachers would record shows off TV and bring it in for us to watch. I was introduced to Bill Nye the Science Guy by my fourth grade teacher, for example. And when I was in third grade, every Friday, all the classes would gather in one room at the end of the day to watch the previous week's episode of Ghost Writer. I think that was way more educational than ads for Pepsi and Nintendo, mixed in with "news".

They added Channel One to my school district when I was in 10th grade. Most of the teachers after a week just kept the volume on the tv turned off.
At the high school there was a main unit in the back of the library. Channel one got recorded on a tape at like 3am. The Librarian would put that tape into this main unit and it would then broadcast it to every tv in the high school. Whcih was every class room and the cafe.
Senior year some dumb ass on video annual staff didnt realize the BIGGER THAN A TV VHS VCR in the back of the library, wherer video annual staff had their editing bay,was the one that played on every tv. And this dumb ass put a vhs tape into it to win a bet that "Yes I do have a copy of Debbie Does Dallas".
Any tv in the high scchool that was on got to see a few minutes.
I was not the dumb ass. I was the one that lost the bet.
All I remember about Channel One is 12th grade the teacher was one that kept the volume on. I think he liked using that 10 minutes as time to finish his coffee. I would either read a comic wwhile listening to music or take a short nap.

The only Cable in the Classroom program I remember seeing was an MTV Special about Gun Violence back when I was in the 8th grade. Otherwise my teachers throughout school would just show regular documentaries (some taped off tv but not from CitC, some from home video).

Twilight Zone being a part of Cable in the Classroom seems odd, but I can kind of see it. Certain episodes could be shown to film students to discuss various filming techniques, practical special effects, and storytelling, and the episodes that had morals could be used to discuss the lessons learned, not to mention you could also talk about the historical aspects of it (like if you're talking about the 50s/60s).

I associate "Cable In The Classroom" with those "Nick News" specials that aired on Nickelodeon for several years. They'd always be on early in the morning.
