Unfortunate to hear. Had one of the better stories in 80s WWF with Ted DiBiase, and it was a shame there was never a good follow through with him.
My condolences to his family.

This is somewhat surreal to me. I literally watched Brian Zane’s video on him before I went to sleep last night. Rip

RIP. Say what you will, he made himself into an iconic figure in this business out of sheer will.

While a bit of a running gag, Virgil was an underrated performer and the best wrestling bodyguard of them all.
May he Rest in Peace.

Really enjoyed his role as the outside enforcer for the nWo. People talk about how bloated it was, but I always felt Jones did his role adequately and fit perfectly. His initial push as DiBiase's bodyguard was good too, but I'll always remember his underrated WCW work.

RIP, I enjoyed when he finally turned on Ted DiBiase and won the Million Dollar Belt in 1991.

Very sad. One of the loudest pops of the era when he beat Dibiase at Summerslam 91. Thanks for the memories Virgil.

Odds on him getting to the pearly gates and immediately saying “Want autograph? 25 bucks!”

It's unfortunate that modern fans have made roles like the one he had to be a despicable place to be, because even after he fell down the card to what we derisively refer to as "Jobber to the stars", he was on TV and PPVs a pretty damn steady amount. Need the newest monster heel to look like a killer? Virgil was always one of, if not the first guy that person faced and even though he'll never be considered overly talented, he was a steady hand and usually did his job well. His nWo role was fine and kinda necessary.
He became a punchline over the years, but I have to respect him for leaning into it.
Also, if you wanna check out a really good match of his, check out his title match vs Bret from November of 92. It's probably about 6-7 min long, but he didn't look terribly out of place.

This is such a bummer. One of the great convention-circuit regulars from wrestling’s golden age.
61 is no age at all.

Virgil was a rare talent. He was believable as Ted DeBiase's bodyguard from his look to his demeanor. The pop he got when he turned on Dibiase and the pop he got when he beat Dibiase at SummerSlam showed that he was very over as a face. He was also very good at making a monster heel like Yokozuna look like a killer. Sure he became more or less a meme after WCW ended but there is no doubt that he gave a lot to the business for a number of years. RIP Virgil.

He played his role to perfection, which led to that amazing pop at Summerslam. I really enjoyed him in all of his roles when I was growing up.
Dementia is a bitch, especially with hitting people earlier and earlier now.
