Remember when RAW had these two names? RAW Is WAR was the first hour, and WarZone was the second. What was up with that? It wasn't like there was any real difference between the two. Sure, there would be different announcers from time to time; but it was essentially the same show. Why go with two names? I never understood this back then, and I haven't been able to come up with any explanation. Has one ever been offered?

I think it was some scheme to manipulate the ratings listings and ad rates. The lasting legacy of that is that each individual hour of Raw has its own rating listing on Nielsen's charts as opposed to NXT or AEW Dynamite and Collision where the two hours are lumped in together.

Basically, it was just a way to get two shows to finish in the top 10 in cable ratings. For a brief period, one was supposed to be more kid friendly and the other was to have a PG 13 rating, but that fell to the wayside

It's not been the same show since they got rid of Thorn in Your Eye as the opening theme.

I feel like this technically lasted through the ruthless agression era. If you noticed, at the 10’00 hour they aired the copyright signal and it would say “RAW Zone”

It's pretty funny how much WWF enjoyed mocking WCW, yet copied so many of the little items they used to do such as set off pyros at the top of each hour. Always thought the later intro to Warzone was much lamer than the initial Raw burning warehouse with the air sirens going off.

They also started calling it Raw Zone after 9/11. However, after 1998, rather than have the other intro, it had the copyright graphic at the end of the first hour. I know it was done in 1997 to sometime in 1998, but they had stopped using the intro for War Zone.

Yeah, it was a ratings gimmick. Allowed USA to have 2 top rated shows a week instead of one.

"EVERYONE, GET ON YOUR FEET! WAVE YOUR HANDS, TURN UP THE HEAT! WE GOT ANOTHER SHOW TO GO! WE'RE ALL TO-GETHER NOW!" LOL I HATED this song. For the so-called "edgier" hour, they started off with the cheesiest song.

You wouldn't be saying that if they'd used the part where Bret, Diesel, HBK, Razor, Undertaker and Paul Bearer all talked over one another!
