For the first time.
Watched raiders of the most ark. It seems like Indy gets caught and outsmarted a lot. And the villains just beat themselves. And how exactly do they get home at the end? Also did that woman say she was a child the last time he saw her 10 years ago and they had an affair?
I heard raiders was the best and apparently people though temple of doom was the worst until the new ones came out. But I really like temple of doom. Feels more like all the stereopical Indiana jones stuff I was expecting, and I totally understand a lot of the references that were used afterwords all came from this movie. Seems like the more memorable and exciting movie. Why is this one so hated?
Still haven’t watch the last crusade yet

Temple of Doom had the best scenery and production values, but the hate comes down to really two things: 1) some offensive stereotypes about Indian culture (I have some Indian friends and they all universally hate the dinner scene) and 2) Willie Scott is the weakest female lead of the series and just annoying in general.

I watched Dial of Destiny not long ago, jeez that sucked. Crystal Skull was unironically a better ending for the Indiana Jones character.

Temple of Doom went full on fire and horror, a serious change from Raiders. Audiences are taken by surprise and didn’t like it.

I think you’ll enjoy The Last Crusade. It’s a fun movie.
Crystal Skull had its moments, but you’d think Spielberg never got to work with a large CGI budget before. His experience with Jurassic Park and Saving Private Ryan shows that he knows how to use it well, he didn’t hear.
Dial of Destiny was okay. I liked the new characters.

only one i saw in cinemas was last crusade ... but that was a good year for movies ...
raiders is one of the last old school actioners temple is gross and super-exciting, the mine cart sequence is exceptional crusade is the real ending, saw it several times in the cinema but then there is crystal skull ... much maligned, and far-too-long action sequences, but i'll be damned if i'm not yanking up the volume for that ending! yet to see dial of destiny

I recently watched Raiders for the first time with my son, who just turned 7. I had been awhile since I watched it.
I honestly don't remember it being as bloody as it was. I feel like a lot of action movies really sanitize gunshots and such, but here if someone gets shot there is definitely blood, etc.

The first two movies are by far the best.
Raiders still probably remains my favorite, but I've seen it so many times. As far as Indy being outsmarted, I don't think it's that as much as it's being outmaneuvered in situations where he's already going against the odds. As far as getting home, I'm guessing Indy sent a radar signal from the U Boat they came in on, although more curious how Indy survived getting IN the U Boat initially.
Temple is awesome. It just doesn't care. Indy as a character is just in pure graverobber mode, I love it, helps the 3rd act a lot. I've said it before, but I don't see the racism with the dinner scene, as the whole scene is played more as "something is wrong" as opposed to "Indian people eat weird stuff". Indy already came across the Indian village that he was respectful of, whereas the entire time at Pankot Palace he is suspicious. Temple is also the best action paced movie, especially the 3rd Act. I also like Willie Scott. She's a nice contrast to Marion from the first movie.
I like Crusade, but this is at the point they decided to sanitize the series, and yet it still gets a PG-13. Seems a bit excessive. Most of the humor seems like stuff you'd see in a late career Jerry Lewis movie. Almost no gore, and probably has the most gaffes of any of the movies. Oh, and for anyone who "hates the raft scene" or "hates the fridge" scene....WHY does the magic box get a pass? That's without a doubt the most unrealistic thing that happens in the Indiana Jones universe. Obviously magic boxes have a trap door, but how would that work on the train? Also, Indy stealing back the Cross of Coronado from Panama Hat never sat well with me, since he clearly had no issues giving precious artifacts to Chinese gangsters in the previous film. Keep in mind, they already established that Panama Hat refused to press charges originally when Young Indy stole the cross.
Skulls is dull. First half is alright, but not great. Second half is so forgettable. Only watched it once and that was enough.
Dial of Destiny is something I haven't seen and won't. No need to see Indiana Jones at age 80...something Mutt joked about in the previous movie.

I watched Raiders and Last Crusade many times growing up. They are both fantastic movies in their own way. Raiders did a better job balancing the action/comedy/horror while Last Crusade had probably the best action, but leaned a bit more heavily into comedy. I always thought Temple was boring and tried too hard to be gross.
Crystal Skull ugh... completely unnecessary slog but I made it through.
Dial of Destiny... I turned it off about an hour in and have no plans to ever finish.

It may be because it was the first one I saw, but “Temple of Doom” has always been my favorite.

Last Crusade is my favorite because Harrison Ford and Sean Connery had great chemistry together. I could have watched two hours just of them.
Raiders is probably the best overall though, I think.

Raiders and Crusade are fantastic movies, I watch them all the time. Temple, and Dial are fun, watchable movies with issues. Kingdom is also fun, and gets too much hate, but it’s not what I could call a good movie

Never forget that if you took Indiana Jones out of Raiders, the movie would still end the same way...

Love the Last Crusade. That’s just a fun movie. It’s my favorite of the series and Ford and Connery play off of each other well.

JusT finished the last crusade. Great movie. It was tonal whiplash going back to the Middle East, dealing with nazis, and Christian stuff. I can see why people felt like temple of doom was so out of place now. The second one, didn’t have any of the “archeology professor” stuff and what was the point of adding short round if he wasn’t in the next movie? Also what was the point of making it only a year before the first movie?
It reminds me of the Nolan Batman trilogy, where the first and third movies were connected to each other, while the one in the middle was kind of doing its own thing.
The Austrian woman was so good looking, but I was confused. She’s a female protagonist, then she’s a nazi, then she’s upset about book burning and gives the book back, and then she’s helping the nazis again.
