Those VHS board games were always odd to try to play. Had these two I just found the WWF version of this at my parents house recently. I'll be honest as a kid I just wanted to see the highlights. Also have dark tower at my parents house and no it's not for sale

When you think about it, the person who made Monopoly must have really hated their friends. Well... you're not far wrong. It was originally created basically to show how much capitalism sucks. Then ironically a big corporation got hold of it and popularised it.

The main problem with Monopoly is that it's not fun.
The only reason I'd ever suggest playing it on a games night was if I was trying to get people to leave... So I guess in a way it could be useful to own a copy.
Honestly Monopoly Deal is the only version worth playing.

The Mad Magazine Game IIRC one of the rules was you had to use your left hand to roll the dice. Owner of the commic shop I went to years ago had a copy. Once a week he would do "Late night" gaming. The shop would be closed ,the late night gaming was invited only. And we would play old board games or magic deck drafting. We had a big dispute on my block over the “Airborne” card, which instructed you to jump up and stay airborne for 30 seconds. If you did, you’d lose so much money it was almost an instant win. (The goal of the game is to lose all your money.) Since the card didn’t prohibit it, the big kids decided it was legal to jump up and grab, say, a garage ceiling beam, and hang from it for 30 seconds. The small/fat/weak kids called that cheating. We ended up banning the card.

i had one called Ghost Castle as a kid that was amazing, i think we played it properly once then it became more of a spooky house for action figures.
also we had one called The Mysteries of old Peking, which was just racism in a box

Also have dark tower at my parents house and no it's not for sale A friend of mine had Dark Tower. Once we realized that you could pretty much move between the bazaar and frontier and dark tower and such in two moves, we just threw the board away and played with just the tower. Another friend had a game called “Go For Broke” in which everyone starts with a million dollars and you move around the board spending money on stuff. First one to go broke wins.

I had a games night over the weekend and we ended by playing a few games of Azul. Now there's nothing super weird about the game itself... by my god, you try and sell a game themed around Portuguese bathroom tiling without everyone's eyes simultaneously glazing over in record setting time.

I remember two from when I was young. One was a WWF (the panda people) one where you had to save wildlife from (I think) poachers and the other one was based on establishing trade routes in the Bermuda Triangle while avoiding a giant cloud.

Raise the Titanic. the center piece was filled with heavy metal objects that weighed it down, you were salvage boats looking to well raise the titanic by stealing the treasures on board... I think... I played it once like 30 years ago >_> another good one I played all the time The Grape Escape. Your piece is a clay grape and you are trying to get out of a jelly factory that is setup wiht lots of little plastic mouse trap like pieces, that will squash or cut or otherwise mangle your piece if you land in the wrong place.

RoboRally?
Board game where the players race their robots through a factory.
Problem is that all the players' movement is randomized (you draw cards and have to 'program' your robots movements through a 5-step turn using only those cards) and simultaneous (everyone flips their cards at the same time).
The robots often end up trying to occupy the same space at the same time, which can knock a robot off course.
And your pre-programmed 5-step movement doesn't change, so your robot goes spinning off course and may fall in to a pit or get crushed by heavy machinery.
Game was created by the guy who created Magic: The Gathering.

Ohhhh, I'm going to need to make an excursion to my best friend dad's house. I swear that dude, even to this day, buys about any board game made if it looks remotely interesting. I'll make a list of the weirdest ones.

The Wikipedia page says there was a new edition published in 2023, along with a couple of expansions. I have the original one with the pewter figures.

Another game we played on rainy days at the shore was Amoeba Wars. Players start at the outside of the board and have to battle their way to the center. Not only do you have to fight the other players but there are amoebas that spread across the board and eat your ships and a DOOMSDAY MACHINE which is the strongest piece on the board and can attack at any time.

I was in Germany a few years ago and exploring a museum when I came across a board game that was Nazi propoganda. The story was American planes were bombing the city and the goal was to race to your shelter.

Another of my current weirdo faves is Unmatched. It's the ultimate board game version of kids on a playground imagining who would win in a fight between their favourite heroes, except it's taken to the most extreme absurdities.
Like, have you ever wondered who would win if Nikola Tesla fought Bigfoot and his friend the Jackalope? Or who would win in a clash of fisticuffs between Bruce Lee and a T-Rex? Or how about if Buffy the Vampire Slayer, teamed up with The Invisible Man, and Sinbad the Sailor to stop Mothman from blowing up bridges? You can do that too.
It's dumb, and it's amazing, and I love it.
