Honestly, one of my favorite choices AEW has ever made. Bringing in the same old Okada would've been so easy and I'd understand it but this is so much better for me. I've complained that he's been beyond stale for years so I'm all for this. I thought the Kaito stuff early last year was the freshest he had been in a while but then after it died it went back to sort of same old stuff, so yeah I definitely approve. Especially because the best stuff out of that was him being an aggressive asshole. When you’re pretty much light years ahead of everyone else and a literal wrestling god (f*** outta here, JBL…) you can be an aggressive asshole and be believable at it. I’m so exited after this night. I really need to go to sleep but my brain is spinning at all the branch realities that have sprung up from the sacred timeline after this segment and the AmDrag/Ospreay tease at the end of the show.

So, I'm pumped about this and I'm thrilled as not only is this going to be fresh and incredible for Okada, but it shows AEW's doing super subtle foreshadowing right. Go back to THE DAY it was announced that Okada is leaving New Japan - Wednesday, January 17. The episode of Dynamite that day had the Bucks end their interview with Renee early by getting a cell call that they said they had to take. Revisiting it, it's clear that the storyline call was a call from Okada. 3:38 here - www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1112504826576043EDIT here it is from the official AEW Twitter dot com account:

That was f***ing awesome. Perfect direction to go. Dude looked legit and I love The Bucks and Fricken Okada being the new Elite. Dope stuff.
If this is the way okadas going to be presented, it’s gold.

Bucks and Okada vs. Kenny/Hangman(?)/Ospreay Hangman does not make any sense in this! They mentioned reluctantly suspending him and his heel run is just starting/he's entirely focused on Swerve. I don't know who can team with Kenny right now, but it definitely should not be Hangman.

Kingston being involved and him and Danielson seemingly burying the hatchet makes me think it could even be Bucks/Okada vs Omega/Kingston/Danielson at some point which would be sheer insanity, but we'll have to see how this develops, it's too early.

In two months I’m going to AEW in Winnipeg. Ospreay and Okada have debuted. I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am

Hangman could make sense if AEW want to go that route. They can use the suspension and say it gave him time to rethink his current actions. Hangman is the kind of guy that would get introspective during a break, too.
Not saying that's what I would do, but it would be logical for Hangman to come back as a face to fight the new Elite.

I must have watched a different show from those of you saying Okada is a heel. I watched a man save his bosses from a verbal and physical assault by an employee. He's a hero.

The more I think about it, the more I think that was a really clever segment.
Okada comes out the tunnel and his star power immediately says he's a big deal. He takes down Kingston, establishing him as both a heel and a threat. He then basically replaces Omega in the Elite, positioning him as a top tier wrestler.
Even people who have never heard of Okada before should have seen that he's a huge deal straight out of the gate. I'm sure some people on Twitter are doing the "who and why shoild I care?" routine but AEW absolutely explained both of those things in one segment.

Okada as a heel was 100% the best course of action. Suprised they went there but I love it. You've got Ospreay as the big new signing baby face and he's over like rover. If you tried to do the same with Okada a week later then I'm not sure it would have worked for either
This heel gimmick change and now pairing with Okada has rejuvenated the Bucks too. They have shot back to the top in terms of interest for me

Plus, the story is there for Kenny to help pull Hangman away from the dark path he took because he needs his friend to fight the Elite.

I don't watch New Japan, but this does feel like it is a tremendous signing. With Mercedes coming next week, AEW is hitting on all cylinders.
