I agree, but will it rebound in time to be worth it? Right now they are losing what made the PS2 a smashing success. Even if they do rebound, it's going to be into the Xbox position of barely scraping second place. And making no money. They screwed up sadly. I think the major factor in their problem so far is the price. The only consoles that charged around the £500 mark was CD-I, 3DO & (I think) The Jaguar, And we all know how they turned out. That wasn't the only reason those consoles failed. I firmly believe Sony COULD sell a 600 dollar console. All they have to do is make us believe it's worth 600 dollars. What games did the CD-I have? The Zelda games no one wants to mention, and a game for Thunder in Paradise. What did the 3DO have? Seriously tell me. what did Jaguar have? The problem is not just price, it's also the games. Whatever Sony says, whatever Microsoft says, gaming is not about multimedia entertainment. Gaming is not about having a supercomputer in your home. Gaming is about the GAMES. Sony just lost three major exclusives to my count. First the lost Grand Theft Auto which is going on 360 with additional content as well as Sony, and it was all because Sony didn't sign the deal fast enough. In other words, they've been arrogant. They lost Virtua Fighter 5, which is a decent blow. However the single biggest blow has to be losing Dragon Quest IX to the DS. The only IP's Sony has to survive on now are God of War (which may or may not end up on PS3), Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy XIII (I doubt all of the games will be on PS3 now), Jak and Daxter, and Metal Gear Solid (forgive me if I forgot a few others). But that's seriously not enough for Sony to survive. Sony is dieing because of its arrogance, it's the same thing that made Nintendo lose the 64 and 128 bit generations.

Sinister1, yes, the PS3 can cure cancer......or so Sony says.
And yes...that WAS an actual statement made by a Sony executive during their streak of bad attempts to justify the cost of the system after e3. Maybe if Sony, I don't know, let their GAMES do the justification for them...I mean the collective gaming community almost broke down crying when White Knight Story was announced to be Sony only.

Its their greed that will do thme in. I refuse to buy a 360 simply because 60 bucks a game is overkill. PS3 hops on and thinks it can overcharge everything, well screw them. I hope they do fail.

Either you forgot when games were MUCH shorter and costed $70+ a game, or you should just get the Wii, all its games are $50 each.

I think it's a bit too early to be proclaiming the doom of the PS3, but yeah Sony's launch lineup was anything but stellar, and when it comes down to it, it's games not everything else that matters. if I want a computer I'll buy a f***ing computer, gimme some good GAMES.

Sony has turned into the WCW of the videogaming industry. They had a huge lead for a long time, but bad decisions coupled with the competitions awesome performances mean a heavy and quick decline. That's actually a good comparison. They're at like WCW in 1998 mode. Still hugely popular, but have just made some enormous mistakes. Let's see if they can rebound.

Check Ebay. Most people are barely making $100 on the systems now. Not a good sign for a system in such short supply these days.

Even if Sony manages to make a comeback, they already have been defeated, I mean, I hate these god damn trigger buttons they took from the X Box 360 controller.

According to EGM, and some pretty solid rumors, Metal Gear Solid 4 may also get the green light for the 360. It looks like the third-party developers are starting to see that the PS3 isn't going to be the PS2 this time around. You can't double the debut price and up the game price and expect people to jump at it. Every successful major console for the past three generations has debuted at a $300 or less price. And games have notoriously cost $50 brand new for the past twenty years. While the cost of production may have gone up, the cost to reproduce the formats (DVD, mini discs) is less than the cartridge days. I don't know, but I can't justify spending that kind of money on a system when I could buy TWO other brand new systems for less (Wii and 360). I won't predict Sony's demise from the PS3, but I certainly don't think its not working in their favor. They may just lose their crown this time around. EGM may not be the final word on the situation, but they've given the nod to the Wii this time around. They did the same comparison between the Gamecube and the Xbox, and successfully predicted the Xbox to come out ahead that generation.

PS3 seems like a solid product from playing on my buddies system, but it is not affordable at a time when competitors Wii and the 360 are affordable.

You know that rumour that when you buy a PS3 game, it's still owned by Sony, just that you couldn't re-sell it because it wouldn't work on any other machine?
Was that really true, or was it just a false rumour?

C'mon, don't tell me you all didn't feel a great swell of Sony-Pride when Kaz Hirai told us the tale of the "Giant Enemy Crab"? HIT HIS WEAK POINT FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE!
In all seriousness, I hate to say this, as I don't want to sound like some lame fanboy or something, but there's a big part of me that wants Sony to fail.
One the one hand, no, I don't really feel that way: the more competition there is in the market, the more it benefits the consumer. I never lose sight of that.
However, deep down, I really dislike a lot of what Sony's done to gaming. First off, they brought in their idea of "built-in obsolescence" to their video game division, which is awful; the idea of making a machine built to break after an approximate amount of years disgusts me. For God's sake, I have a Game Boy from 1989, and it still works. Why shouldn't the PS2 do the same 5-10 years from now?
Secondly, I also dislike a lot of the "changes" they've brought to gaming. To me, someone who was raised with a NES controller as a pacifier (I kid, I kid), and a Genesis controller nearby during my grade school years, I feel like, once Sony got prominent, some of the fun got taken out of gaming. To me, the PS3 is the epitome of what Sony's done over the last few years: go for power, go for flash, go for spectacle, skimp on the substance.
And let's not even get into biting off other companies for "innovations". Dual Shock was bad enough, but anyone else notice how, soon as the Wiimote was unveiled, Sony suddenly jumped up and started screaming "LOOK! LOOK! Now WE have a controller that moves stuff, too!"? Dear Jebus.
Again, I don't like looking for a company to fail, as it would likely only hurt me in the long run, but I'll be damned if I don't feel Sony had this a long-time comin'.

According to EGM, and some pretty solid rumors, Metal Gear Solid 4 may also get the green light for the 360. It looks like the third-party developers are starting to see that the PS3 isn't going to be the PS2 this time around. I heard that one too, didn't want to mention it till it became solid though. It just goes to show that Sony forgot what MADE them great. It was because their games were cheap to manufacture and they were good to their third parties. So all of the third parties flocked to them. Nintendo was pissing them off, SEGA made a console that required quadrilaterals for rendering, and Sony came about with a console relatively cheap and simple to develop for. Sony became the company of third parties, Nintendo became the company of the first party games, SEGA became the company of importing... a lot. Sony is stuck in this mindset that their multimedia capabilities is what made them win. While the DVD player was a plus what made them win was God of War, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto ect. They think they can sell the PS3 without games, they act like they are selling a computer. Then don't sell it as a game system. If it's a supercomputer for the home sell it as such (in fact if you look at it that way it's a fair deal). And for god's sake do something about the overheating.

For 10 years, Sony was doing quite well for themselves. Then, the PS3 came along and crushed its hopes. Karma is a mean little b****, isn't it?
P.S. I agree with most of ya in saying that Sony isn't going to die because of this, but they may be looking at third in this generation.

I said to heck with all of the next gen systems and got a PSP for christmas. I'm having fun with it. We haven't even touched on the flop that was. The UMD bombed horribly and the DS, the "gimmick" handheld is crushing it. In fact, you could point to the PSP as being the first sign of Sony's mortality. That was the first time since they entered the game market that they lost.

I don't get this logic. The 360 had a shitty launch too. Their launch titles all sucked dick except for maybe call of duty 2 at the time. And now, PS3 launches with a similarly abysmal selection of launch titles, but they have resistance: fall of man, or whatever. I mean it's decent to say they launched shitty, thats acceptable, but to say they have too much ground to cover and all this other bullshit, is just stupid.
I understand you guys hate sony, but give me a f***ing break. They can do whatever they want and continue to sucker people out of money, to the end of time.
And I'm still on the boat that the wii is popular right now, but in a couple of years time they will run out of creative ideas for games. There's only so much you can do with a f***ing magic wand. That's just me though. I will still end up buying it for the fun 3 to 4 months I will have with it. But to suggest it's going to topple the sony empire, is quite frankly, ridiculous. Just give them as much time as Microsoft has had to make their console worth anything, and then I think that's a fair amount of time to pass judgement. 6 weeks is not enough time to comment on jack shit.

I have a 360 and will get a Wii when I can find one, however PS3 will have to wait until I don't have to sacrafice two car payments to afford it. Especially now that GTA and Metal Gear aren't exclusives anymore. Sony has gotten so egotistical it's ridiculous, I can imagine now the head of Sony sitting on a throne dismissing peasents who dare question him into the dungeons as an example to all.
I also won't lie though, I will eventually get the PS3's. However it will not be until they lower the price and have a game I care about that I can't get anywhere else.
