I really don't have an issue with them announcing it as a dream match before the match. Like dream matches exist and are called that in shoot sports. Dream fights, dream finals etc
It's not like they went "Dave Meltzer is probably going to give this next contest 6 STARS"

It definitely did, but I think I still liked Omega/Ospreay last year better. Probably Ospreay/Takeshita too.
...and I guess I'll risk it. Ospreays no-selling bothers me. I get the adrenaline strong-style thing but he literally sprung back up after getting his head stomped on repeatedly like it was nothing. Maybe it was rushing to finish the match but...yeah.
Still the end sequence was one of those "show to someone to explain why you watch wrestling" things. Masterclass.

I think I preferred Ospreay/Takeshita and the announcement of "dream match" did make me cringe a bit but it was superb. I think I just need attention drawn to Takeshita quietly and consistently having bangers

It depends on what one is looking for in an epic wrestling match. I don’t know if I have it ahead of Cody/Roman II for my match of the year yet, but I’d consider both of those ***** for different reasons. One for sheer athleticism and the other for the storyline drama.

Imagine if Terminus lasted for more than two shows because I could've seen it happening there.

Terminus would ahve done it without a hint of irony it wouldn't have been a bit and that would have made it even funnier than the pisstake gimmick spin.

Loved the match but absolutely understand the critique. The crowd was a bit much and announcing it as a dream match was a little silly. Kinda reminds me when Edge and Orton had THE GREATEST WRESTLING MATCH EVER (tm) I kinda get it but as someone that was in the crowd for the match, it was hard not to get hyped up and excited to see the match in person and voice that. Might have been annoying for those at home I guess, but it wasn't like we were chanting to get ourselves over like you sometimes see. It was genuine excitement and anticipation for what was likely to be a great match happening in front of our very eyes. So while chanting "holy shit" before the match started might have been weird, it came from the heart if that makes sense. One of those, you had to be there to understand. Oh I don't believe in the "crowd getting themselves" over thing at all, it was just kinda silly hearing "this is wrestling" after a small sequence. I'm sure I'd be all caught up in it too if I was there

He gave it 6.5.

I love that Bryan went from somehow having no 5 star rated matches, bafflingly, to 10 in the past couple of years. He really made up for lost time on that front.

Before someone harps on it, because it always comes up: Meltzer has said to basically just treat the higher numbers as "still a 5, just, emphasis" and not to take it super seriously. The first 5+ was Flair vs Steamboat in the 1980s, so yeah, don't get terribly hung up on it.
Same dude has also said that many 5s take place that he simply doesn't ever see, like that Flair probably had many 5s on live shows with no official recordings or distribution in tape-trading circles, so yeah, it's not a science and never has been.

Not surprising. I have it above the Okada/Omega matches but it's close.
