If he is really retiring, at least he has selling sneakers to fall back on

Assuming that this is legit and assuming he wants to stay involved in wrestling in some capacity, I wouldn't be opposed to him coming back as a commentator at some point whenever there's turnover at the announce table again. AEW and ROH are surprisingly well-stocked with managers right now and that's not quite basically what he's been doing for the last several months he's been out with injury, so I don't think there's really a niche for that, but he's done commentary before and could presumably take the rare bump from a heel as needed moreso too.
There's also a part of me that wants to see him nominated to become a Kentucky Colonel, so that he can come back and be Colonel Chuck Taylor, which has a surprisingly nice ring to it.

I feel like Chuck Taylor is in that same boat as Eddie Kingston where he would legit be a few years out of the business by this point if AEW didn't exist. I feel like he's loosely talked about retiring a few times before. So, while I never personally cared much for him, it does have to be said that AEW really gave him his first and likely only national exposure. That's why it's good to have other big promotions that aren't just the Fed. Him and 2.0 are people I never expected to ever see on television.

But we got: Chuck Orange Ruby Soho Kingston 2.0 Uno & Stu Silver & Reynolds Cabana Tracy Williams Claudio Brodie Lee Sami KO RD Evans Chris Hero Sinn Bodhi Granted, some of these guys were already established, but still.

I never thought I'd see Eddie on television either, I don't really count the Impact run lol, let alone a TRIPLE CROWN CHAMPION Made me so f***ing happy, still does, so happy he's thriving.

And while it wasn't on Dynamite, Avery Good (Dasher Hatfield) and the former Batiri appeared on Dark and Elevation. And Jimmy Jacobs has made appearances as a judge for Pure Title matches. And how the hell did I almost forget that the Bucks were Campeonatos de Parejas??

If he is retired, he'd be a lock to transition to a trainer or agent role, right? I'd also love him as a booker, but I do not see TK sharing that opinion.

Wow, couldn't disagree more, dude's always been solid in ring even with the injuries he's had over the years And given he's been in some of the most memorable matches in AEW History and one of the most memorable groups, nothing about his run failed if this is indeed the end.

So I don't watch any more, can anyone explain to me why we're taking this retirement seriously over so many other wrestler retirements?
It seems weird for him to just retire like this offscreen basically

Chuck Taylor's career may be over.
Recently, Trent split from Best Friends, and it was revealed that Chuck Taylor's injuries that have kept him sidelined may be career ending. On the Fightful Select discord, we revealed that this isn't just kayfabe, and there are no plans for Chuck Taylor to wrestle again at the moment. However, we've learned more.
Taylor had his first match in six months on an April edition of AEW Rampage against Trent, and we're told he was well aware of the extent of his injuries at that point. Sources on the roster said that Chuck wanted to have the match, as it could have been his last. In addition, Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp has learned that Chuck Taylor has been training as a coach/producer for months.
Rocky Romero also spoke to us about Chuck and the domino effect with Trent, saying "He’s been good for so long. Some of my favorite work that he’s done was when he was in PWG. The Parking Lot Brawls the Best Friends have done have been iconic in AEW, but it’s unfortunate to not see Chuck be able to do even more, and I don’t know if we ever will. I really don’t know. It’s a pretty crappy situation overall. I am happy for Trent that he’s getting his opportunity to show out. He’s better as a heel and more comfortable. So far, it’s been great. The reaction he got in Winnipeg was amazing. Trent is such a good wrestler so it’s going to be cool to see where he can go with this and how far he can go. I don’t think I’ll be involved."

It seems weird for him to just retire like this offscreen basically Just want to share what my answer would have been if WON hadn't ninja'ed it: Chuck's been on the shelf more often than not for the past two years and change, and there was word at some point that AEW's existence stopped him from retiring. So I was already inclined to believe this was a real retirement because that all adds up to a picture of an ended career, and the lack of fanfare just seems to follow from a guy who had some great highlights but never really became a name on a national stage - important enough to mark the retirement, but not enough to sell a match or a show based on it.

Glad to hear that Chuck is transitioning to a backstage role at least.

Chuck was open about planning on retiring if AEW didn't happen, he was even soliciting people to buy his gear on Twitter & saying that it was going to be his last time wrestling in some places.
