And now I just learned that another Susan (a Susan Buck- , even), Susan Buckner, passed away too a bit before Ms. Buckline.
For those who don't know, she was Patty Simcox in Grease. A friend of ours also had a colorful story about meeting her at a con, and then, erm, MEETING her afterwards.
Both in their 70s.
I'm bummed now, as I met both of them too.

Damn, I would have still done her in her 70’s, just to say I did. My mom and sister always had Grease on when I was a kid and always thought she and Marty were babes.

I brought this up to my friend and we pondered whether she was the least famous person in the most famous scene in movies. There’s only a handful of scenes I could mark as more famous than the opening scene in Jaws. And they almost universally have someone far more well known in them. Janet Leigh in the shower scene. Humphrey Bogart in Rick’s Cafe. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh at the end of Gone With the Wind. Brando in the backseat of On The Waterfront. Julie Andrews singing in the hills in The Sound of Music.. almost any scene arguably as or more famous than the opening of Jaws features someone who is much more famous. The closest we could get was the It’s Alive scene in Frankenstein which is maybe slightly more famous and Colin Clive isn’t the household name of a Brando or Gable or Bogart…but he’s more known than Buckline by a good margin. Plus Karloff was on the slab.
Anyway…RIP to the star of a rare scene that is known by everyone even if they haven’t seen the movie. If you can find a definitively more famous moment in movies with a lesser known star in it…let me know.

Wasn't she also the woman who was swimming naked and got caught on the periscope of the Japanese submarine at the beginning of "1941"?
Rest in peace, ma'am.
