Reposting this from the last thread: LIGHT IT UP ONE MORE TIME!!!! THE CELTICS ARE BACK ON TOP WHERE THEY BELONG!!! So happy for Jason Tatum who for years had to face questions about his killer instinct. He shut up his critics tonight. So happy for Jalen Brown who finally got to show the world what he could do. Remember when people laughed when he got his contract? Who's laughing now? So happy for AL Horford who waited so long. So happy for Joe Mazzulla who stepped in a tough situation last year and had to prove himself. So happy for Jrue, White and the rest especially KP who touched it out tonight. So happy for Brad Stevens and the Owners who did whatever it took to deliver a winner! And I'm so happy that I don't have to have my heart in my throat another 3 games.

Someone said that the playoffs is too damn long last thread. Agreed but they will never shorten it due to greed. The Play-In is a joke.

I think the era of guys playing 70+ games a season is dead. I think playoff seeding takes a backseat to making sure your guys are healthy.
And yeah the season and the playoffs left a lot to be desired but the Celtics were an absolute wagon this year and shouldn’t be forgotten

I think what impressed me the most about the 2023-24 Celtics is how many scars they wore and how that shaped them into the team that hoisted the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
Last night has been building since the trade of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to Brooklyn in 2013 and the hiring of Brad Stevens as head coach a week later. That's when this era of Celtics basketball truly began to form, even as the foundation was being laid by the likes of Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, and Kelly Olynyk.
But the scar tissue they've built up started in 2016 and calcified until last night's buzzer. That summer, the Celtics drafted Jaylen Brown and signed Al Horford – the importance of that acquisition cannot be understated, simply because the narrative prior to the summer of 2016 was that no free agent would ever willingly come to Boston. They pulled a 53-win season out of their rear end, but they were never a serious threat in the Eastern Conference because that was in the peak of the LeBron Cavaliers era.
But the next off-season, they signed Gordon Hayward (which, again, would not have been possible without Al Horford the year prior), they drafted Jayson Tatum, and they signed Kyrie Irving. This team was expected to be off to the races and were considered favorites in the Eastern Conference. Six minutes into the season, Hayward broke his leg, and while this young team pushed the Cavaliers to a Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals, their championship hopes were dashed on opening night.
Then the postseason heartbreaks really piled up. Led by Kyrie, they were utterly detestable in 2018-19 and quit against the Bucks. In the bubble, they lost to a Miami team they really should’ve defeated. In 2021 they were ousted by Kyrie and the Nets “superteam.” In 2022 they finally broke through and advanced to The Finals – only after desperately hanging on against the Heat – but the lights were too bright and they were dispatched by a veteran Warriors team. Last season, after losing their head coach a month before the season started, they were eliminated by a Heat team they should have defeated, but they at least didn't go quietly, forcing a seventh game after going down 3-0.
We saw it in the playoffs this year, the Celtics weren’t going to let those old ghosts haunt them. They were 4-1 in elimination games, winning each by 34, 15, 3, and 18. Unlike Celtics teams of years’ past, when this year’s squad could close out a series or a game, they did so in dominant fashion.
This is a team that knew the pressure that was on them after the acquisitions of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, and they met – and exceeded – every challenge. 80 wins. 46-6 at home. They needed the past 10 years of postseason struggles to toughen and harden them. And when it came time to finish the job, they did so in spectacular fashion.

Yeah this season as a whole was long and boring. Hopefully better things in 2024-25.

Chuck and the gang are going out atthe right time, it seems like a less interesting league outlook. It sucks too, because the only thing I liked more than basketball season is college football season and that looks like it's in a nosedive as well due to shit leadership. Not ideal.

Celtics fans seeing that the path to banner no. 18 means Kyrie's coming back to town: It bears mentioning that since fans were allowed back into TD Garden following the pandemic, Kyrie Irving is 0-3 in Boston, with losses by 6, 43, and 28. He's a cumulative -51 plus/minus, shooting 26-for-59 from the field and 4-for-20 from downtown. Let's update those figures. Kyrie Irving is 0-6 in Boston, with losses by 6, 43, 28, 18, 7, and 18. He's a cumulative -84 plus/minus, shooting 44-for-112 from the field and 7-for-37 from downtown. F*** Kyrie.

Sixers might sign Paul George to a max and I am not gonna know how to feel about it if it happens
The team needs actual legit depth, they need rebounders, floor spreaders, and a LEGIT backup Center/Insurance Policy for Embiid
Paul George would be a big time talent to put with Embiid and Maxey, but at this point I'm just kind of wondering if they should just build a legit team around JUST Embiid and Maxey, because all of these max deals just feel like they lock the Sixers out of what they need the most... key depth. I guess I'll see if that happens and if they actually do get George
I know they were also rumoring that Butler could come back here, but if they do that on a Max I'm done, he's older and just got injured pretty bad in the Playoffs, I'd love Jimmy back but I'd much rather a more team friendly deal...

Why would JJ want that job? I know being Lakers coach is probably a feather in his cap that be probably thought would never happen, but still...

I am guessing he is taking this as his in, in the NBA Tho it is not like he hasn't been looked at since Toronto was interested last year but maybe he thinks this is house money. It is no guarantee first time coaches get redos tho (see Nash, Fisher)

Weird that Jrue Holiday was supposed to be the player the Sixers moved out for their real championship core, and now he has two rings.
