This ad makes the heroes of Double Dragon look like two middle aged dads who just started abusing steroids.

I know this is Off Topic, but it's still crazy to think this is the poster for one of the most important wrestling PPVs of the century:

Apologies for double posting but this is probably the best example. I bring you the Earthbound ad campaign:

Not that Star Trek Beyond was every going to do big numbers given the box office context of its release and after the bad taste left in so many people's mouths by Into Darkness, but this trailer pretty much helped drive away many potential hardcore fans that might have still been interested:
It's a pity because the actual film really features stronger performances by the cast than the first two and a far more mature Trek story at the heart of it... it's just that damage had been done and the movie's merits wouldn't be discovered by many until it hit streaming and home video. Even Simon Pegg has lamented that the trailer edit did no justice what Beyond actually was.

All those mobile game ads where they make the game look like poorly designed trash that's unplayable.

I've heard nothing but good things about that D&D movie that flopped a year or two ago but the ads just made it look horrifically bad.

The Earthbound ads that were basically saying the game stunk and not to get it. Because of it, no one bought it and Ness was only known to the most hardcore fans when Super Smash Bros came out.

The gym bro geniuses who thought this was a good idea: An honourable mention to whoever at Lionsgate thought the best way to promote the new Crow movie was the release this image first:

I don't know about anyone else, but I avoided The Legend of Zelda for years because of the bizarre ads, like the "It's The Legend of Zelda and it's really rad" rap or the creepy guy screaming "Zelda!" in the dungeon.

Fun Fact, The Creepy "Zelda" Guy was played by John Kassir who later on would be best known as the voice of The Cryptkeeper (and others)

Apologies for double posting but this is probably the best example. I bring you the Earthbound ad campaign: I vividly remember reading this ad in Game Pro Magazine, so it was at least somewhat effective

Apologies for double posting but this is probably the best example. I bring you the Earthbound ad campaign: As a budding RPG fan in the 90s, everything I knew about Earthbound was from this ad. I actually had no idea Earthbound was even a Dragon Quest style RPG... it just looked like, well, like it stunk. Walmart had the game on clearance, and I still considered buying it since the giant box was so cool, but all I could think about was how bad the game looked due to the ad, so I passed. By the time I actually figured out what kind of game it was, it was sold out, and it ended up being one of the only significant SNES RPGs that I never owned.

I get 1st = 1 rep and 2nd = 2 reps but then it stops making sense. The f*** are these guys on?

Every Poppi Soda commercial comes off like the most pretentious f***ing shit ever, it doesn't make me want to try their soda, it makes me want to never see their product again
Burger King's commercials where they tell the guy "Sing as terribly off key as possible" ads are insanely bad and I can't believe it's been their identity for like two years now
The Puppy Monkey Baby ad for Mountain Dew is a standout all timer to me too
