Question: When you were a child, did you ever believe that there were monsters hiding in your closet or under your bed? I never did, but I have relatives who were afraid of monsters in the dark.

Honestly, just in the general dark.

To this day I cannot sleep on a bed that has a space below it.

Oddly no. Might be cause by the time I was 3 I was watching various horror movies with my dad and uncle.

For me, it was in the basement.
My bedroom was downstairs next to the basement and I had nightmares of a vampire entering my room through there to attack me.

Monsters could be anywhere. Under the bed, in the closet, in the basement. I was an avid dreamer and still am, so sometimes I wake up at night and am irritated enough to be a little paranoid. As a child it didn't help watching something like the Outer Limits episode in which a boy was taken away by a monster under his bed.

I didn't really believe in monsters, generally speaking, but I guess I was generally more afraid of the closet because it would be easier for something to hide in there.
I had to say "generally speaking", by the way, because I was apparently terrified of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before becoming a fan because very young child me knew they "lived in the sewer", knew toilets were connected to the sewer in some fashion, had seen the Ghoulies poster and misinterpreted it as being a Ninja Turtle, and thus thought it was demonstrating that Ninja Turtles can attack you while you are on the toilet and will kill you.

I never believed there were monsters in dark places. I went everywhere in my house (and other places). Closets, attics, basements, garages, nothing was out of bounds for me.
I did, however, enjoy playing “Alligator under the bed” which was just an excuse for trying to jump about six feet from my bed out the door to the hallway.

Just avoid Poltergeist when you're a kid.

I thought Freddy Krueger was in the closet. I can remember my mom getting annoyed and saying “If he was in there, he’d have broken his neck by now.”

I used to think there were tiny goblins living in the attic. Every night you could hear them running around, tik-tik-tik-tik-tik-tik. It was, of course, mice, but 4-year old me thought I was going to be abducted and eaten by the goblins.

Yeah the dark in general I’m scared of. Still don’t like beds that don’t have a bottom either.
After watching the first Saw movie I checked my wardrobe for 2 weeks after because of the scene where the little girl gets kidnapped. I was 19 at the time & at University.

I was never scared of monsters as I enjoyed, so much so that people around me were sort of concerned.
Bunch of stuck up people.

Nope, too many stories of greek, norse or celtic myth an legend and similar things like Harryhausen films as kid, so never had that fear.
The Omen did leave me concerned the first time I saw that though.
Cosmic horror though ... let's not think to deeply on that.

I also don't like walking by rooms with open doors at night, because scientific research has shown that such a scenario is more likely to result in me seeing a dark human form standing by a window staring at me in the corner of my eye that will disappear when I do a double take, or switch on the light.

I was pretty much scared of everything as a kid, so just about anywhere I was alone and it was dark. Especially after watching Unsolved Mysteries or a random program about alien abductions. *show ends* Alright, go upstairs and get ready for bed, now. How bout NO, mom.

Is your monster under your bed, or is their monster on the top of the bed?
