50 dollars isn't that big of a price cut. I guess you can buy a extra game. I don't expect a big jump in sales like the PS3 saw.

This will be a temporary drop, I guarentee it.

This will be a temporary drop, I guarentee it. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a permanent one on the core and premium and stays until they are out of stock like the 60gig PS3 price drop.

Does it work yet or am I just buying a system that puts the 3 year warantee to the test?
Drop the price all you want, I'm not buying it until they actually fix the thing and address the ridiculous failure rate.

So the core system gets a $50 price drop and a free game... yet the better version only gets $30 and they can't even be bothered to give out a free game with it?
Lame. I mean, I know the better system costs more to make and crap, but Jesus... toss in a free game at least.
Besides, come Black Friday various store will likely probably be giving away two or so free games with the systems.

The Elite gets a 30 dollar price drop. And the premium gets the 50 dollar price drop.

Thats good n all that but I'm waiting for my 360 to return from repair and it's currently a 5 week wait which means I should get mine about 5 or 6 days before Halo 3. If it doesn't arrive before the Halo launch I'm selling it and buying a shedload of games for my PS3.
I've just had enough really.

Considering the 360 is fragile like Bohemian Crystals, the price should be halved...

They think lowering the price will do any good, but all they are competing with is the PS3 and the PS2. The PS3 is already much more expensive and the PS2 will be on its last throes this holiday season.
The Wii is not selling because of the hardcore games, it's not selling because of its online content, it's selling because of its uniqueness. People who want to get a Wii want to get it BECAUSE it's the Wii, not because it's a game system. Congradulations Microsoft, you are well on the way to smoking Sony this holiday, as if anyone was doubting you would.
EDIT: Of course some people may think $50 dollars less is a deal and buy the system, but it's not that significant of a drop. If the 360 sells it will be because of Halo and Halo alone, not because of the strength of its hardware, its "promising" future, or the other games in its holiday lineup.

Outselling the PS3 is fine but if you have to replace a thrid of those consoles because they're poorly made, along with the costs of shipping them from and to the customer, then thats a pretty big financial hit. The knock on effect could be the 360 being associated with being inferior due to reliability issues and therefore increasing PS3 sales as people want a console that will last. It's a marathon, not a sprint. I couldn't care less who wins "TEH CONSOLEZ WARZZ!!!11" as long as both systems are reliable and have great games. Sadly the 360 has loads of great games but isn't reliable and the PS3 is still waiting for a killer game but is reliable.

I wasn't saying anything about the console wars in general, I'm saying this holiday season Microsoft will beat Sony because of Halo, and lose to the Wii because it doesn't have waggle.
If you want my opinion on how the console wars will end, Sony will regain exclusives they lost with the PS3 launch and take second place. The 360 will fail to gain any significant content, and drop to third because of reliability issues.

I was just giving my opinion, sales wise though (in USA at least) the 360 should own the PS3. Europe looks a little more even.

Yeah, Europe likes getting screwed over for some reason. I don't know why they are sticking with Sony, is Singstar really that important?
Or were the "This is Living" ads really convincing?

I think it's more of a "Paying for quality" mindset many have over here. Europe has been a strong market for Sony since the PSX so there is a brand awareness there that Microsoft doesn't have. The same is happening in Australia too I read. I personally trust Sony more than Microsoft as Sony have always delivered the goods in terms of reliable hardware and a wide selection of genres available to play, for me personally at least. Maybe we just don't like Bill Gates?

Well, Sony hardware historically has not been very reliable at all. The amazing thing about the PS3 is how the delivered the perfect system two years too early.
But I can understand the trust. I hear Nintendo is also completely dominating, but that was to be expected.

I agree that the 360 will be last, but I believe that Sony will outlast and out sale everything like how the PS2 has. Like the other guy said, its a marathon not a race.

I'm assuming I should be thankful that I haven't had a problem with my 360 since I got it last Christmas?
