Someone calls out Smith's lack of good movies when not involving Clerk characters...and Smith attacks with his typical humor.
Some of it's funny. Some of it left me saying, "You don't really want to face that question, do you?"
Broken link for bad language...of course...

If that is the same video I saw on Collegehumor.com then Smith did answer the question, and it was a yes. He is working on at least 2 films that do not involve characters from the Askewniverse. And lets not forget that Jersey Girl, while not the greatest movie, did not have any Askewniverse characters.
As for Smith not liking criticism, I am of the belief that the guy who asked the question was looking to get a rise out of Smith for fun, and Smith responded the way the guy would have wanted. Either that or the guy was just a jackass.

It's a legit question. I haven't enjoyed any Kevin Smith movies since "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back". If you can't handle criticism, then get out of the biz.

Well, I'll say this..........who DOESN'T like being criticized? Yeah guys like Smith and Oliver Stone are seen by some as crybabies, but when you bust ass for months, if not years (Took Stone 10 months to just edit NATURAL BORN KILLERS. After the hellstorm of its release, no wonder he briefly went back to drugs)..................you tend to get cranky.
That doesn't excuse the fact that JERSEY GIRL just fails as a picture. That failure is probably why Smith jumped off GREEN HORNET.
Of course, there are also some directors who seem to kiss-ass with most people's opinions. Take Spielberg for alot of his career. The public didn't care for TEMPLE OF DOOM, he doesn't care for it. Everyone hate 1941, he hates 1941.
Hell, its only until recently when I saw him actually stand up for some of his movies that the public didn't care for. I still remember him b****-smacking the CHUD message board over their hate of A.I.*, and of course that whole backlash-deal back in 2005 over MUNICH.
*=I thought it was pretty great but OT.

I think the guy was just trying to make a joke and Kevin took it a bit too hard.

Am I seriously the only one who enjoyed Jersey Girl? Yes. Kevin and Ben Affleck should call you up to personally thank you for watching that movie.

I'd have to owe my adoration of the movie mostly on the girl who played his daughter (Seriously, she was absolutely precious) but I never understood why people didn't like the movie...

In a way, Kevin Smith is like the suburban Christian, post-SW nerd Woody Allen of our times. That is, his films pass or fail on the strength of his scripts. The more he attempts epic big productions or shots, the more his directorial weakness shows. If the script doesn't cut it, the movie doesn't work. If alot of footage is shot but then edited out, this usually gives such movies (DOGMA & JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK) an irratic editing-narrative to it. My point is, CLERKS 2 is Smith's best work since CHASING AMY. Maybe its because one can argue that Smith has put an effective dramatic-capper to the "ViewAskewverse." (hell, in that regard Smith is one-up on his hero John Hughes) But as well maybe display that Smith's strength is that with the small-scale story.....and there is NOTHING wrong with that. Who knows, maybe his reported horror movie can work for him.

Well as I said, I think the guy asking the question wanted to get a rise out of Smith and for Smith to go off on him. The question was useless, as Smith has written and directed a film that did not have to do with the Askewniverse, and produced and acted in many others.

The public didn't care for TEMPLE OF DOOM, he doesn't care for it. I don't know a single person who dislikes it. What's wrong with it? Jed Shaffer ~It was playing on TV when I proposed to my wife. The scene where Indy drinks the blood. True story. Very romantic.

I wasn't gonna say anything, but I loved Temple of Doom. Now that I've chosen to post in this thread, I feel obligated to say something about the topic.
Umm...I don't really like Kevin Smith movies?

The scene where Indy drinks the blood. True story. Very romantic. Jed, TEMPLE OF DOOM kicks ass, but back in 1984, while it was a serious money-maker, people basically ripped it a new a-hole. You know how people are mad about all these blockbuster sequels sucking it hard? Its nothing new. Plus, after the masterpiece RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, Spielberg/Lucas wanted to explore and branch out through INDY's B-trash movie origins. If RAIDERS was a B-action movie disguised as a great-looking A-movie, then TEMPLE OF DOOM is more honest of its origins. So in response of people claiming it was "too dark"(silly argument), Spielberg/Lucas retreated and made LAST CRUSADE, which virtually is a RAIDERS knock-off. Its a nice fun movie, but it lacks the juvenile-awesomeness punch that TEMPLE OF DOOM gave to me. Even now, I'm sure if a poll was commissioned, TEMPLE OF DOOM is still the least-liked of the INDY trilogy, which is a shame because its damn good. RAIDERS (1981) - ***** - Masterpiece TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984) - **** LAST CRUSADE (1989) - ***

Temple of Doom is awesome. Only negative is Kate Capshaw. I rank it as the worse Indiana Jones movie, but just slightly below Last Crusade. But being the worst Indiana Jones movie is like being the ugliest Victorias Secret model.
