Kurt Angle's status as a heel and a babyface was kinda blurred. A lot of people felt he was a tweener, and so was Joe after he lost. But, eventually I found Kurt was going more towards being a heel for a few reasons.
There was a rumour that they wanted to have him be like Steve Austin from 1997, which is fine. But there is a huge difference between what Austin was doing and what Angle is now doing. Austin went out of his Wrestlemania 13 match as someone who was very admirable for toughing it out. When people would beat him down, he just kept coming back. And I remember he would randomly stun babyfaces at times like Ken Shamrock, and nobody really liked him. He was a still a babyface at that time though. He didn't do anything that was that dishonourable, the only bad things were turn on other babyfaces.
Also when Austin was out with the neck injury, he would stun McMahon and Ross, but the reason he did that was because he wasn't being allowed to wrestle and do what he loved.
With Kurt Angle, he's just being a baby because he lost to Joe. And he just wants a rematch so he can prove to himself he's still good. And he'd beat up anyone, and most people who are weaker then he is, to prove a point. So I felt that, yeah, that's some great heel stuff. Then he tries to break Joe's girlfriend's ankle, which is just heel 101. Hurting someone weaker and someone Joe cares about to get what he wants. Then after Joe agrees, he still breaks her ankle. That's great heel stuff.
So then they have Kurt Angle go against the other top heel in the company, Christian Cage. They have Christian get heat on Kurt by having him and Tomko beat him down. They have Sting come in and make the save, one of the top babyfaces in the company, and Kurt celebrates in the ring and gets cheers from the crowd.
Now, I know that just because one guy is a heel and one guy is a face doesn't mean in reality they can't get along, but if you do that, you get a positive reaction from the crowd, and that's paddling upstream if they want Kurt to be a heel.
So what gives with Kurt. And don't tell me Kurt is a tweener, because when you break some girl's ankle because some guy isn't giving you what you want, you're a freakin heel. There's no other way to spin that. So what the f***?

Vince Russo doesn't seem to believe in the face/heel philosophy and the iMPACT zone fans seem to think that heels don't exist. Until both problems are fixed, these problems will be commonplace in TNA.

If he woulda stopped at "Joe...this was nothing personal", he could still be bought as a tweener...

The thing is that it no longer truly matters if Kurt is heel or face. He still gets cheers regardless.
Beastiality sex? Yay! Running down soldiers? Yay! Putting helpless innocents in the ankle lock? Yay!
He is... Angle.

I heard Russo say on the Ultimate Insider DVDs that I have that he believes that there are faces and heels, just not your stereotypical ones of the past. But even still, it's surprising because they're cheering for Angle and he's viciously assulting people a lot weaker then he is, which is great heat. He never attacks a wrestler, he threatened Eric Young but didn't attack him, and he beats up on everybody else, and that's good heel heat. I mean, even for the Impact Zone fans, that's pretty crappy stuff that he's doing. And for him to stand with his arms raised with their top babyface, that's just retarded.

Yay! He is... Angle. Then they should have kept him babyface. They should have not went with this Joe vs Angle program so quickly. They should have waited at least 6 months for this, at least, so you can build the anticiption, and so in a few months time, you can make sense because Joe and Angle might be in different places. TNA in my opinion huged their biggest money maker. Yeah, the fans wanted it, but so what. You don't always give children everything they want, because if that happens, they get spoiled. And you don't give fans everything they want right off the bat, because if it's built, it's so much better in the end. And I know some smart fans who want to see good wrestling would get pissed, but what TNA is trying to make money. You have Angle in TNA, so you have a money maker. You have a potential money maker like Joe in TNA. Build them both up, then you have two big money makers going one on one. If the crowd cheers Joe vs Angle when they're together, have them shake hands and say, you know, maybe that would be good. Then just build it and build it for months on end, and you have people eagerly anticipating it. If I was them, I would have waited til Slammiversery at the latest, because so much can be done in that timeframe.

I have a theory: They cheer Kurt Angle because they think he's the harbinger of WWE's demise. That's the only theory I have to go on by him doing so many heelish things yet still getting cheered. But again I don't know, it's just a theory.

Kurt Angle should have been brought in as a heel. If they would have had him come in saying how TNA is the minor leagues, etc. he would have been a huge heel.

Sting isn't exactly the most clear cut face anymore either, he's been doing heelish things since the NWA Title run, a lot of people have been acting somewhat more heelish since Russo's been around, and some heels have gotten face traits.
In order from "most heelish" to "least heelish": Christian: Obvious heel, does nothing "for the fans" or for anyone that isn't him. Angle: Seems to care more about his pride than the safety of others. But doesn't seem to hate any faces (unless you classify Joe as a face now). AJ Styles: Went full blown heel. Though it involved going heel cause people wouldn't stop meddling in his life. Abyss: Heel that has been doing more honorable things of late. Joe: Still has the vicious streak, but has seemed to have actual human emotion sometimes. Christopher Daniels: No longer the bland-good-guy that stands up to heels. Back to being cocky. But hasn't done much "heelish" other than maybe jump on Jerry Lynn. Sting: Stealing, attacking people with his bat (unprovoked sometimes), but is trying to "save" Abyss, and tends to appear to help someone being double teamed at the end of a show... Rhino: They've made him oddly caring about other peoples lives. But he still goes off into crazy cursing mode sometimes.

I wish they had waited for the Joe/Angle fued. Honestly, all he can do now is have a lackluster title reign and become a Jarrett lackey.

It's obvious where they're going now... Heel Angle will Rule the TnA world only to be stopped by the Power of Jeff Jarrett

I find it interesting as a study of people, no question.
Between LAX pummeling AMW and giving Gail Kim the Border Toss to Kurt Angle almost breaking a woman's ankle, all to thunderous cheers, I sometimes wonder if everything is right in this world of ours.

Everywhere except Orlando: Where retards run free I think they're just really excited to be there. If you're not Double J or Christian, you'll probably have people cheering their heads off for you. Which is hilarious, because it's probably the same people in the crowd most of the time. I mean, in Winnipeg, when we get a RAW or SmackDown, we react to pretty much EVERYONE. But if we had three tapings a month and a PPV, you'd think we'd start picking who we want to cheer and boo.
