You're right on. When John Cena became champ at WM 21, he was the most loved WWE superstar at the time. Immediately afterward, he was hated. Edge was also loathed during his mini-title run. Cena was hated long before then

The " Cena was the most beloved before he became champ "is inaccurate, a significant amount of people here didn't like him before that. I was not among those, I'm just sayin.

Didn't like Cena before he became champ and was pissed when Batista did at WM21, Lashley was just...you know there to me
that said I would support a Kennedy title run in a couple of months, just not now

It is true that a substantial amount of online fans will dislike whoever is the main face in WWE at the time (I remember a guy on the SMarks boards who had the log-in name "TheRockIsTheAntiChrist". That said, I'd much rather see anyone but Lashley as WWECW champ. I can't remember another main eventer who got "boring" chants in their matches. DQs are EEEEEEEXXXXXXXXXXTTTTTTTRRRRRRREEEEEEEEMMMMEEEEEE!

Also during Benoit's reign, that was about the first time I've seen much criticism towards benoit on a somewhat regular basis until he dropped it to Orton... sure he was overshadowed by HHH, but he wasn't shoved down throats, and man people were still getting tired of him...

I'm curious as to what people see in Kennedy. I dont really get the hype at all. I do want to like him as I enjoy having new people in the main event, but I find him very bland and the announcer gimmick got stale (to me anyway) after the first day of everyone copying it in their posts on this board.
He seems to me like an average wrestler with decent mic skills at best. I agree with the one that said earlier he should be in the US title picture instead. So i'm just asking the kennedy marks what exactly do you like about him?
And i disagree with the idea that the IWC will boo whoever the top face is. Not necessarily, i see your point though. For example I liked the tweener Cena character, but they ruined him when they made him a full blown face that stopped his raps and appealed to little kids. So my point is its not necessarily that the IWC WANTS to boo the top face, its that creative cant seem to figure out how to turn somoene face without changing their character completely. Even Steve Austin, IMO, was infinitely better before he won the title. The original Stone Cold didnt give a crap about what the fans wanted and could stun anyone at any time...and the fans loved it. But the Top Face Stone Cold played to the crowds and just kept going with his catchphrases.

It's not like everyone here share the exact same opinion BUT there are indeed some trends.
Carlito was very popular when he was heel and he was winning with rollups and schoolboy pins. Then he was turned face, added some cool springboard moves to his arsenal but suddenly became "sloppy and careless". So now he's in the doghouse, with little hope of coming out of it.
And I don't think his charisma or his in-ring action have changed DRAMATICALLY over the last year. At least not enough to justify such a fall from grace.
What happened then? It's easy. As "cool" as a catchphrase can be, as funny as a routine can be, it GETS OLD rather quickly. Even more when it becomes clearer there's a difference between the potential we see in a Superstar and his actual showing on TV (ok, part of the blame is on Creatives, but still...)
I bet once Kennedy gets a real run as US Champion (or even as WWE Champion, but not until later this year if not in 2008) or gets turned face, many will suddenly find out he's not the second coming of Mr. Perfect... not even the second coming of Mr. Perfect's towel ;D

Hell Austin was hated in '00, it happens to everyone.
And about his "stale gimmick", i'm confused, doesn't anyone else see this as just his catchphrase? It got him over, but it's in no way his frign gimmick.
He's moved on WAYYYY past that, if you can't see how good his potential is i feel sorry for you.

Instead of feeling sorry for me, could you please elaborate about him "moving way past" the Kennedy....Kennedy thing? He's cocky, and he says his name TWICE! What else? His in ring action isn't bad, but at the moment I can't see why I'm supposed to idolize him like he's the Next Big Thing.

People love heel midcarders, Austin, Rock, Cena, Batista, the list goes on and on. When someone becames face then wins the title, the whole thing we loved them for is gone. Once was a badass, is now a bland Diesel like champion. Once was a white rapper, is now some super army dude. Austin and Rock while people loved there mainevent runs, I always liked them better before they hit it big, I guess seeing a guy do something new and exciting is a lot more fun, then when their in mainevent, where it felt like they had get all their catchphases in each time they do a promo.

If you can't see it on TV infront of you, why would i be able to change anything? I love his intensity, i love his cockiness, his "gimmick" is himself turned up a million, and personally they're always my favourite type of "characters".

The guy has put on some great promo's beyond the whole "say his name twice deal." He's the reason why I still want to watch WWE, and I don't see how he's so bland being he stands out considerably more than much of the rest of the upper-mid carders we have.

1 - I've always hated Kennedy, ever since I saw his debut match on Velocity as "Ken Anderson"
2 - I've always hated Lashley. He's just Ahmed Johnson + Lesnar x Goldberg - anything that made those 3 good.

Kennedy is awesome. He's very believable and fun to watch in the ring, IMO, and I like hearing him cut a promo. What more could I want?
I'm not sure Kennedy is ready for a title run, but he's closer than Lashley to being ready.
