I finally picked up the HBK autobigraphy the other day and finsihed in two days, i thought it was a really entertaining read. But what surprised me most was the way everyone hated shawnt hroughtout his entire initial WWF tenure. I was more mark than smark during this phase, so i only knew the great performer that we saw before the cameras. So, was it really as bad as he made out? and are his claims of false rumours being spread through dirt sheets and the internet as accuarate andd wide spread as he makes them sound? also, is it true that he didnt respond to them, which is why they went uncchecked for so long?
Im just curious, because he's always been one of my foavorites since his rocker days and it surprised me to hear that apparently, everybody hates shawn.

Not surprised he has such hatred, the guy did rub a lot of people the wrong way (I know that statement will probably get me the gif. of HBK rubbing Edge's crotch from a few weeks ago, lol) in his early days, so that's what happens.
Great talent in the ring, undeniable on that account, just wasn't one of my favorites in the 90's, seemed too much of a pretty boy for me personally.
Some people can attest to his behavior such as Sunny who had an affair with Shawn while she was seperated from Chris Candido in 95. Don't know too much more about it as I didn't see the shoot personally, but I'm sure she gets into it more.

From what most people say, he didnt have many friends outside of Hall, Nash and other members of the clique. Most reports say he was basically a jerk and alot of people wanted to kick his ass back then. I didn't know about that stuff at the time and I just enjoyed what he did in the ring.

Before finding god or whatever, Shawn struck me as like the Barry Bonds of wrestling.
A guy people admired for his abilities and hated for his personality.

Yeah it was that bad but, every rumor had a grain of truth in it and, Shawn brought a lot of it on himself.

On Raw he insinuated that Hart and Sunny were having an affair, when in reality he was spending that week with Sunny in the Bahamas.
Then there was the general drunken/drugged up a-holeishness.

Oh, whoops, I thought you were proposing a comedy series based on the Heartbreak Kid's misadventures as a child.

Well, I don't recall much about his early WWF heel days (92-93) but I do remember these things:
-Had contractual disagreements with WWF which led to his "positive test" in 93 -The whole Kliq phase which many say he had Vince's ear for a good chunk of years -Killing the push of Bam Bam and pretty much anyone who wasn't in the Kliq, making life hell for Shane Douglas -I believe in Tom Brandi's shoot, he said around 97 Hunter's job was basically to make sure Shawn made all his appearances as he was all drugged up around this time (I assume painkillers). -As others said, it's been said by many wrestlers who were around that era that Shawn could be a jerk

****DISCLAIMER******
I AM AN HBK FAN.
That being said, I think his autobio was a pile of shit and I think he lied throughout.
"I never refused to job. The dirtsheets made it up. If asks you to, you do"......Yeah, coming as it does from the guy who got the sweet of the stick during Montreal.
"I never took drugs. I could have never failed that drug test"......yeah Shawn, I'm sure the lab f***ed up.
Plus others thing he talks about, where I just don't believe him.
There's no denying HBK's ability or talent, but I think he's full of shit

Shawn Michaels didn't cause Montreal; Bret Hart and his ego caused Montreal. If Bret would have done as he was told and dropped the strap before he left for WCW, then none of this would have happened. The phrase "Bret screwed Bret" comes to mind.

QFT, of course it isn't Shawn's fault (at least not completly, he still could have refused, but, well, I'm not sure I'd have refused myself if I had been in his situation) But he should at least stop saying that Bret was unprofessional and all that stuff when he himself refused to job quite a couple time in his career against the same guy!

Do we really think the lost smile was made up to aoid doing the favour for Bret? is it not even possible that his injuries were genuine? In the book he talks about doctors and surgeries,ie watched the promo, seemed pretty genuine to me

But I'm sure if it were Razor vs. HBK, HBK probably would have worked double-time to find his smile. He also was very injured going into WrestleMania 14, but without Bret standing across the ring, he found the courage to go on.....possibly because Undertaker helped him find that night, but Shawn denys that as well.
